Tips for PIH?

Hi! I’m 11 days post microneedling with VAMP serum. This was my first time getting it done. The deepest they went was 1.0mm on my scars. During the initial recovery my entire face got super dry, flakey, and peeled off within the first week. However on day 7 the skin around my mouth started getting darker and extremely flakey. Luckily no burning or irritation. My dermatologist said it’s PIH and my skin barrier was probably damaged beforehand. I didn’t know about tyrosine inhibitors before either /: My skin is sensitive to HA and burns when I use it so she’s recommending I avoid anything except for a strict regimen of gentle cleanser, cicaplast cream, and aquaphor over the flakey spots. Any advice on what to do to help with the hyperpigmentation? I was excited to finally hop on microneedling but I’m starting to lose hope and regretting my decision….

Is normal to be not red afterwards?

I had my 1st session at licensed esthetician. I think she used maximum recommended for first session but I had almost 0 redness. I was a tiny pink at my forehead and then after hot shower a bit red but otherwise nothing. Its 3rd day and I resumed retinal for now as my skin looks totally fine. Tomorrow I think I would start again adapalene. I had 0 irritation.

Is this normal? When I did permanent makeup my artist noted I have unusually thick skin. Do I need to go significantly deeper next time? Is it effective without redness?

Esthetician mentioned we can ramp it up next time but some clients even at the depth I did for the first time are pretty red.

Radiofrequency microneedling or Normal microneedling?

Hello, so I saw my dermatologist doctor and she suggested me to do radiofrequency microneedling for my listtle acne scars to make my skin smoother and I have done some research about it and people say it may make you age faster after RF microneedling. My derm said it can burn face fat and I said okay since I didn't know the consequences. I asked because I felt like ı have jowls. So, What do you think of RF MN? Should I do 3 sessions of radiofrequency microneedling as she suggested or should I do it at home with dermastamps etc...

Affordable boosters/glide?

Hi,

About to purchase the Derminator2 and gathering all my supplies. I have picked out my numbing cream, aftercare, etc. but I'm stuck on finding a glide on Amazon. I follow an influencer who linked one, but it's out of stock. I know you can just use HA as a glide, but I'm looking for more of a booster version that helps with quick healing as I don't really have 2-3 days to stay home. Any suggestions? Even if it's just HA I will take those suggestions too.

Thank you!

Serum stuck in needle

While micro needling my serum collects in my needle port, specifically when gliding and it becomes a lot and starts making a bubbling sound and motion because the needle is still moving so it keeps getting pushed up and down. Then to be on the safer hygienic side I have to use multiple needles to make sure dirty solution isn’t getting anywhere.

Title: Microneedling Healing After One Week – Is This Normal?

Is this a normal part of the microneedling healing process? It’s been a week since my session I had it done Monday evening, and today is Sunday. I have these dark brown, rough, dry patches that are peeling, but there’s not a lot of peeling overall. My skin also looks way darker than usual. Has anyone else experienced this?

To everyone who said microneedling works on STRECH MARKS

It has been 2 weeks since I performed at home micro needling on my knees. I don’t see any improvements except my skin peeling and getting red: but this could be the result of using Tret every day

Needle depth - 2.5mm
Tool - Dr Pen M8S
Area - Knees
Glide used - Saline water
Post procedure - using Tretinoin 0.1% every single day

First 2 pics - POST MN
3rd pic - BEFORE MN

How long does it typically take to see any improvement in the appearance of stretch marks? I’m afraid I’m just wasting my money and time on this procedure :(

Do you think I should wait more?

EDIT - I waited 4-5 days after MN to start Tret. Since then, have been using it daily at night

Would Morpheus 8 help my thighs?

I have lost 20kgs and now at 33 my legs look awful as if I was at least 10 years older. Will some sort of microneedling like morpheus bring them back to normal or is it a waste of money.

I'm very prone to stretch marks.

Dr Pen A20 restricted to buy without a license but why?

It doesn't make sense why you would need a license to buy the A20 yet you can get any of the other models, even the A11 with a much faster motor.

They all have the same concept and if the A20 is FDA approved, surely it would make it even safer to use as a non professional?

They all have the potential to be used incorrectly but with the A20 being designed to cause less micro tears than all the other pens surely that makes it safer for non professionals with experience of microneedling pens to use more so than the other pens available, yet they insist on a license to buy it.

Someone please make it make sense. It has all these safety advantages yet only professionals can use it. I'm perplexed

Is microneedling worth it?

Hi! I have dull skin with hyperpigmentation around my mouth and an oily T-zone. I don’t have acne or acne scars, but I’m wondering if microneedling is worth it if my goal is glowy, plump-looking skin.

Can microneedling damage naturally thin skin? If you have thin skin and have tried it, what was your experience? Any recommendations?

Microneedling reactivated my old scars

I had a subscision 2 years ago above my dimple and recently got microneedling done 2 months ago. My old Rolling scar I had fixed has slowly been coming back after Microneedling. Has anyone else had this happen? I feel like my skin texture has only gotten worse these last two months and I am stressed for my face.

Trusted Derminator Product Videos???

I really wish Derminator would provide their own professionally produced videos to demonstrate their product. Every time I'm at their product page and I'm about to pull the trigger and buy this thing, I have to see this terrible image of some rando on youtube with a clickbait AI image. And when you look into this creator, this random dude only posted about microneedling or even skincare only ONE time (his other handful of videos are about AI, so no microneedling results or follow ups, no other interest in skincare), and OwnDoc even had to put a disclaimer to say the guy in the video isn't even doing it correctly! Why link to this random video then??

If not a video produced by the derminator company, I would feel much better if they linked to a skincare professional demonstrating the product. Having to see this AI video man bleeding right in the web shop... makes it hard for me to trust I'm not getting tricked into some scam.

Derminator has so many supporters on this reddit, which makes me tempted to order the product anyway. But, anybody else feel this way? god this youtube thumbnail gives me the creeps. Can anybody link me to videos of demonstrations that they trust?

Did I make a mistake?

Hi MNers, it's my second time MNing and I read doing it with Sterile Sodium Chloride is an option. I don't go any deeper than 0.5 as I'm a chicken however after this first time using Sodium Chloride (and second time MNing) I think my skin may hate me.. I also didn't realise you aren't meant to drink 48 hours prior (had some drinks last night). Did I make a mistake?

Should it always bleed ?

Hey lovely people!

I’ve been doing microneedling at home using a rectangular stamp my dermatologist gave me after my first in-clinic session. She said I could reuse it 4-5 times before the needles go blunt . It has an adjustable needle depth, but I accidentally used it at 3 mm the first time without realizing and doing the same ever since .

Interestingly, I barely get any pinpricks or bleeding, which made me wonder if I’m just applying light pressure so only a small part of the needles is penetrating. My face develops a deep red flush for about 12 hours and is almost back to normal within 24 hours.

The results have been almost transformational for my skin, and I genuinely feel it’s helping restore collagen, so I’d love to keep doing it this way 😀

For those who microneedle at home or get it done professionally:

How do you know the treatment has been done correctly?
Does it always need to bleed to be effective?
Also, for those using retinol, how long do you stop before and after microneedling? I usually pause it 3–4 days before and resume about 5 days after.

Subcision Re-tethering misinformation

Okay there's constant misinformation on this app so wanted to share this.

Retethering is a real thing after subscision. But, there is no research to show that microneedling retethers the scars.

Again, there is zero evidence that microneedling itself causes previously released tethered scars to re-tether.

There is no clinical trial, review, or case report showing that:

  • microneedling performed after successful subcision causes scars to become tethered again,
  • microneedling increases scar reattachment rates, or
  • microneedling induces the type of deep fibrous bands responsible for tethered rolling scars.

Re-tethering is a recognized limitation of subcision itself, but it has not been linked to subsequent microneedling in the medical literature.

Actual information:

  • Subcision is the treatment that mechanically releases tethered scars. It cuts the fibrous bands that pull the scar downward. The improvement comes from both releasing those bands and subsequent collagen remodeling during healing.
  • Re-tethering (reattachment) is a recognized phenomenon after subcision, but the literature attributes it to the normal wound-healing process after the fibrous bands are cut—not to later microneedling. This is one reason some physicians combine subcision with fillers or other techniques to keep the space open during healing.

Theoretically, people worry because microneedling stimulates wound healing and collagen deposition. However:

  • the collagen produced after microneedling is intended to remodel the dermis, not create new deep fibrous adhesions between the dermis and subcutaneous tissue;
  • the needles are very fine and create vertical microchannels rather than the broad tissue disruption that forms tethering bands.

There is currently no human evidence that this collagen response recreates deep tethering.

What is more likely if scars seem worse after microneedling?

Dermatologists describe several possibilities that don't involve new tethering:

  • temporary swelling wears off, revealing the baseline scar,
  • collagen remodeling is incomplete,
  • the original subcision did not fully release all fibrous bands,
  • natural healing after subcision led to some recurrence of tethering over weeks to months.

More specifically:

  • The 2023 review of subcision for atrophic acne scars discusses recurrence of tethering after subcision and methods to reduce recurrence (fillers, suction, etc.), but it does not identify microneedling as a cause of re-tethering
  • Multiple randomized trials have actually combine subcision with microneedling as part of treatment protocols, with the goal of improving outcomes rather than avoiding microneedling. If there were evidence that microneedling promoted reattachment, this combination would be difficult to justify.
  • The mechanistic literature describes microneedling as producing controlled dermal injury that induces collagen remodeling and breaks up superficial scar strands. It does not describe formation of new deep fibrous adhesions between the dermis and subcutis—the pathology responsible for tethered rolling scars.

The important distinction is:

  • What is known: scars can re-tether after subcision because wound healing can recreate fibrous attachments. This is a recognized limitation of subcision itself.
  • What is not supported by evidence: that a subsequent microneedling session induces or accelerates that re-tethering. I could not find published evidence supporting that claim.

The clearest medical framing is after tissue is injured or surgically released, healing can create new adhesions — fibrous scar connections between tissues that should move separately. ASRM describes postoperative adhesions as a “natural consequence of surgical tissue trauma and healing,” and explains that fibrin can organize into permanent adhesions.

For skin/depressed/tethered scars, plastic surgery literature uses that same concept: techniques place dermal tissue under the released scar as a “re-adhesion barrier” after release of tethering/depression, and report whether there is relapse of depression or tethering.

So medical literature supports retethering/re-adhesion as a scar-healing concern after release... just not after microneedling. It is usually discussed as adhesion formation, re-adhesion, relapse of tethering, or recurrent adhesions, not always the exact word re-tethering.
