“See it”

Everything I’ve ever read says not to say poop and pee are gross because it will upset your kid while they’re potty training.

Meanwhile, my daughter demands to SEE her poop and pee, and gets so excited about it, and then shrieks “EWWWWW YUCKY” and cackles uncontrollably over it.

Bet you can guess how effective the bare bottom technique was 🫩

Forgot to take progesterone

I lost track of my cycle and realized today that the absolutely horrific way I’ve been feeling this last 2 days is because I hit the 14 day window and didn’t take progesterone. I don’t remember it being this bad before, like every joint I have is on fire, I can’t sleep, I’m angry, but also morose, and yet also somehow apathetic, and nauseated, and also craving shitty food, and unquenchably thirsty, and completely unmotivated, and anxious, and freezing, and sweating my ass off, and really pissed at myself for forgetting the fucking progesterone. Like really?! I’ve been doing this for months now and I can’t fucking set an alarm?!

Anywho, alarm is set for next month. I hope your day is going better than mine lol I’m fuckin over it

Peepeegeddon Prep

For those who did the potty training boot camp (2-3 days of naked playtime), what were some good activities to keep the kid busy? We have a very advanced 2 year old, and I worry she’s gonna get bored easily over the weekend.

When do the sleep regressions end?!

23 month old who has always had sleep challenges. She’s low sleep needs and at this point only needs about 10.5 hrs total between naps and overnight sleep each day. Which was slowly eating away at our sanity, but we dealt with it.

This week, she has decided to go back to waking up 2-3 times a night on top of not wanting to go to bed until like 9:30 and waking up around 5. If you’re keeping track at home, that’s only 7.5 broken hrs a night. We had like 2-3 weeks where she was sleeping through the night after converting to a toddler bed and it was GLORIOUS but now we’re regressing. We both work full time and to say we’re struggling is an understatement.

People with kids who are shitty at sleeping - Does this ever get better? When? How do you cope? I just want to calibrate my expectations around all of this (and maybe commiserate with others who are in the same boat lol)

I don’t want to really hear from people with kids who have normal sleep needs - what we’re dealing with hasn’t responded to the conventional wisdom around how to get them to bed and I feel like only people who have kids like this understand that.

My partner and I have been dealing with an ongoing situation with their parents since our child was born. Basically, they live a few hours away and are retired, and they often want us to take a full weekend to spend with them so they can see their grandchild whenever it suits their schedule. They are close enough that it could be a simple “leave in the morning and head home around 5 or 6” type of trip.

Both of us work full time and have active social lives and hobbies, so we’ve asked them to give us a couple weeks notice at least and we’ve also asked them to not expect a full weekend because they frankly just want to hang out at our house and our child gets extremely agitated if we are at home for too long (as do we). They aren’t willing to do a lot of physical activities (one of them will actually refuse to even walk around our neighborhood and would rather sit on the couch on their phone). And the visits often include quite a bit of video calling other people to talk to our kid (she is under 3 so it’s quite….frustrating). So to summarize, they want us to drop everything on short notice to spend a full weekend indoors at our house with a feral toddler so they can play on their phones (not to mention all the typical MIL criticisms about the baseboards not being clean enough, etc). They also CANNOT be trusted to watch our child alone for reasons I won’t get into here but the short version is they have the attention span of a goldfish so the potential upside of them giving us a break to get other stuff done while they’re here is not a possibility.

I should add that they offered to move closer to us to “help” with our child, but then when it came down to it they said they prefer their grocery store so they won’t move (not upsetting tbh). They have the means and opportunity to relocate if they wanted to. So our thoughts are always going back to “well if you are dying to see the baby so badly, you could move closer” and their perspective is “you are making it difficult to see our grandchild and don’t want us to have a relationship with them”. My partner has been subjected to a large amount of passive aggressive commentary around these visits and us being unreasonable. So I ask you, people of Reddit, are we the assholes?
