I think this shot of asami says so much about her character and it makes me sad...

Ironically i think this scene is so reflective of her character in the show. She goes through the traumatic experience of watching her father die, but she's in the middle of a battle so she immediately tries to jump back into the action because theres no time to grieve. Then she isn't even able to mention it until after at the wedding of a man who scammed her. Asami’s trauma is constantly getting over looked but she never lets it get in the way of her desire to help others. She found out her dad was an equalist so she helps to take him down. She gets cheated on yet she decides to be the bigger person and stay friends with the group because team avatar and their mission is more important than relationship drama. She gets manipulated by varrick and she once again has to be the bigger person in order to help save republic city. She could've chosen to let these moments get the best of her, or just quit entirely and focus on her company (which would be completely valid), but she doesn't because she sees beyond herself. She's always focused on the bigger picture.

And what does she get to show for it usually? Loneliness. She loses her family, she gets dumped and she loses her company and in the end its just her that remains. She gets it all back of course and then some, but It just hurts to think that if, worst scenario, that spirit blast would've destroyed the city then she would've died all alone here. Tenzin took cover with his kids, bolin was with mako, lin and su were together but asami had literally JUST watched her father die and then probably thought she was going to die all alone in that moment.

And yes I am fully aware I'm probably overthinking this .5s shot but its my roman empire and I think about it alot....

Maturing is realizing that discord is actually just annoying asf

I genuinely loved him as a kid but now looking back, he really was the most useless character. I think the whole "playing both sides" trickster that you cant fully trust thing wouldve worked better if 1. He was slightly more serious in tone and 2. They committed to him actually going against the main six more

The concept was great but all he turned out to be was just an insufferable man child that ruins everything for everyone. And dont get me started on fluttercord, sorry shippers, nothing against the ship itself but it just makes him even less likable if anything.

(Dislestia 🔛🔝 tho)

The whole "they did katara dirty in tlok thing" is not only untrue but more importantly, annoying.

I have yet to hear a solid argument for this that doesn't just (at its core) inadvertently frame healing as something to be less valuable than fighting which is ironic since I've seen people try to argue that kataras portrayal is inherently sexist, even though implying that healing alone isn't enough of a respectable legacy is sexist in and of itself.

At the end of the day, all of what katara stans are really saying is just that they wanted her to have more screentime. Which sure, thats valid......but just say that. Harping on her not having a statue or not doing backflips as a 90 year woman, however, is just stupid and shows that you didnt really pay attention to her role in either show.

Hottake: moondancer was weirdly obsessive and I don't think she deserves as much sympathy as she gets...

Something that always struck me as odd about this episode is the fact that they tried to spin it as if twilight was a horrible friend that abandoned moondancer but if you think about it, twilight was never actually her friend to begin with.

The whole premise of the show is that twilight goes to ponyville and makes friends for the first time. Key word, FIRST time. The girls from cantorlot when never her friends, or at least SHE didn't consider them her friends. I think that's also why most of them ultimately didn't care because it's not like twilight ever hung out with them anyways. In the pilot, twilight rejects the offer to go to the party and it sets the precedent that she never goes out, and In the flashback they were literally in class. So twilight was only ever really a classmate to moondancer.

The fact that moondancer held a classmate to such a high degree that upon leaving she not only became a recluse, but also abandoned the friends that she did have , is very odd. I also don't like that twilight gets guilt tripped about it when effectively she didn't actually do anything wrong.

The atla fandom has a chronic hive mind problem and TLOK'S steadily growing popularity is it's punishment

I think it's about time we look at the real reason as to why korra haters are so obsessive when it comes going out of their way to express their hate for korra and her show.

its because they wanted tlok to fade into obscurity only to exist as a niche fandom meme (at best) like the shamalan movie, but when tlok not only turned out to be an actually good show but also threaten aangs position as best avatar, they decided they were going to be insufferable about it ever since because god forbid anyone has an individual opinion in this fandom. They genuinely can't STAND the fact that people actually like korra and its honestly a testament to how good of a character she is because if she was honestly that bad, they would just ignore her.

And godforbid you genuinely prefer tlok over atla because then you *must* trolling. It isnt just with tlok either, its with most things in this fandom. Iroh is the fandoms lovable uncle so you have to love him because "who wouldnt?", cabbage merchant is a pillar joke so if you dont find him hilarious then you probably have no sense of humor. Everyone has to love toph, but everyone has to hate mako, so on and so forth. If the fandom deems something to be true then its law and if you disagree you're essentially an outcast.

But here's the funny part; if korra haters wouldve just left korra stans to their own devices, the show probably wouldn't be as relevant as it is today. Theres discourse every week because atla truthers cant help but stir up trouble, they want people to essentially forget about tlok but also theyre the ones that won't shut up about it. Because of this, more and more people have not only been doubling down in their defense of korra but also more people have been watching the show to see if the rumors are true or not, only to find out that they arent.

atla truthers could've been rewarded with people not caring about korra if they had just learned to not be annoying but oh well....

And man, theres nothing I love more then karmic irony

(One of) The dumbest tlok take to come from the avatar fandom is the idea that korrasami was only done to "save" tlok last minute

People typically say this to either downplay tlok's popularity or to criticize korrasami as a ship but like most takes from tlok-haters, it genuinely just makes no logical sense.

Aside from the fact that this scene happened 1. Before gay marriage was even legalized 2. In the middle of gamergate and the height of anti woke culture 3. Literally at the last second of the show; people STILL talk about how they didnt even see it coming, not to mention the amount of people who just dont like it so how would it POSSIBLY save the show. They dont even market korrasami so its not like theyre trying to milk anything

Also saved the show from what? Lack of popularity? Because its arguably less popular because of it. At the end of the day this is just a way for *some* people to try and cope with the fact that tlok is growing more and more popular as the years go by and they hate it. They cant fathom why people would enjoy a show they personally don't like so in their minds it must be the darn gays

"Korrasami came out of nowhere", there's literally a bi pride flag in the mountains

This isnt actually about korrasami (so don't argue in the comments about it), i just find it cute that this scene has the bi colors. Has anyone else noticed this? Do you guys think this was done on purpose or was it just a funny coincidence? lol

EDIT: since apparently its not clear, this post isnt about whether or not korrasami was rush. The post is about whether or not the mountains being reminiscent of the pride flag is intentional or not. The title was mostly a joke

Mako gets hated on for the wrong thing in season 2

Usually when it comes to his actions in season 2, most people tend to focus on his role on the love triangle and how he lied to korra when she had amnesia. While thats obviously a valid critique, I feel like its at least understandable where he was coming from even if I don't agree with it (at all).

What i haven't seen anyone talk about so far is the fact that he had a huge blow up with korra about how important work was for him and not going behind lins back, just to turn around and do exactly that the moment it benefits something he personally cares about. I genuinely don't think he wouldve helped asami if he didnt think her being robbed was tied to what he was already investigating, so its not like he just preferred helping asami over korra (especially since Korra's was a much more urgent issue)

Its just so infuriating because him dumping korra because their jobs were getting in the way is honestly understandable, thats a valid reason to dump someone. The fact that he's a HYPOCRITE is actually harmful to his character because now it just looks like he doesn't gaf about his girlfriend's people literally being colonized. Not to mention that varrick was who he was after and if he would've just not ratted on korra, his case would've solved itself. And then it just never gets addressed which is annoying

But anyways I'm just surprised that no one talks about that bit more often.

EDIT; i also just remembered that if he would've just not ratted on korra then then she wouldn't have had to meditate into the spirit world, which means jinora wouldn't have gotten kidnapped, which would've prevented everything that happened after so dare I say mako is the real reason the past lives are gone.......

Princess Celestia is probably top 5 most mischaracterized characters in media

From being overhated, to powerscaling right down to even her role in the show, most people don't understand her character even from a literary level.

Most of complaints about her can simply be addressed with "there show isn't about her" but in fairness, most people don't know what to make of her because the writers themselves didn't know what to do with her. However its one thing to be confused on her role and another to make up headcanons and theories and use them to misconstrue her character (looking at you luna stans)

Lastly, I find it hilarious when people say she does nothing because even if we don't see her on screen, y'all realize she literally runs the country right? Like she's actually a head of state which means she's constantly doing something. Her sending the main six to fight battles IS an example of her doing stuff. Its like saying the president doesn't do anything because they sent the navy seals on a mission.

Aangs inability to control the avatar state for 3 seasons straight has skewed the fandoms understand of what it even is

TL;DR: the avatar state was always just a power boost since the beginning, the avatar isnt supposed to stay in it for prolonged periods of time. Its supposed to be quick bc thats also the most vulnerable state for the avatar, (hence how aang died). so to say they made it "less scary" is a misunderstanding of the AS because its not supposed to be scary.

I keep seeing people complain about how the avatar state is portrayed in tlok and its just another thing in the long standing list of misconceptions that people use to hate on korra. Let's start with the idea that the AS is "weaker

I'm not even going to bother with the whole "each avatar is stronger than the last" or "prime raava" yadda yadda arguments because who's stronger than who doesnt even matter when it comes to this. The idea that aang has a stronger AS comes from the fact that the ATLA portrayed the AS in a more intimidating way. The issue is,however, that people don't realize that the reason WHY its portrayed like that is to emphasize that aang wasn't in control of it, and thus it was a danger to himself and those around him. So when people try to gloat about his AS being so scary, if hope they know that they're dismissing his entire character arc because aang himself was worried about being a danger to those he loves. Its not a good thing. The AS was like a gun in the hands of a child, of course it's scary.

Second and most importantly; its genuinely so hilarious when people try to complain about how "they just made it a power boost" in tlok. This right here is a litmus test for who actually paid attention when watching atla because the avatar state has ALWAYS been just a powerboost. Thats quite literally it's secondary purpose. Its primary purpose is being a defense mechanism which is why it automatically kicks in when an avatar is about to die, but that mostly happens when an avatar isnt fully realized.

When roku is explaining the avatar state to aang and we see flashbacks of the past lives using it, we can literally see that they enter it for half a second and then it goes away while they proceed to do whatever move they do. This is why its stupid when people complain that korra never stayed in the avatar state, or she used it too frequently or whatever nonsense complaint it is because korra uses it as intended throughout the entirety of the show. The only time she wasnt in control of it is when she was poisoned, and even then she was able to hold it off for a whole which is a testament to how much control she actually has over it. People misconstrue the scene of her using it to win a race against kids as her using it wrong or being a weakbender but they dont understand that that was the writers way of showing is she had control over it. Aang wasn't able to control the avatar state until the last second of his fight with ozai. Before then he couldn't access it himself, he only went into it when he was in danger or emotionally distressed.
