Do you mentally prepare yourself before a workout, or do you “Just Do It”?

I suppose most people are on a schedule and don’t have the time, but I find it invaluable to be able to reset before a workout.

For the first time in my life I am not being evaluated.

Much is made in Reddit about people no longer caring what people think about them. The point I am making is slightly different—I no longer have to worry about what people think about me. It is a little disorienting. I was an Army officer, and cringe when I think about all the times I came up short. The point is, it doesn’t matter anymore. That chapter is closed, all my evaluations, all the negative remarks, have been tossed in the waste bin and forgotten about. What a wonderful feeling!

Running with new knees

I started running in the 1970’s and running was a big part of my identity. When times were hard I would think, “they can take everything away from me but they can’t take running”. I figure you folks can relate. Well, fast forward 30 years and I got bad knees which actually did stop me from running. Now I have had both knees replaced and I feel like I am walking on air. The surgeries were beyond successful. Does anyone have experience running after TKR? I will need to lose a significant amount of weight before I give it a try.

With a weaponizedJustice Department and compliant Congress, why hasn't Trump pushed to indict Obama for a crime of some sort or another?

The fact that there is no evidence of a crime does not seem to be an obstacle, particularly if the prosecution itself is both message and vengeance.

Recommend an urban male protagonist who isn’t listening to smokey jazz music while preparing a simple yet delicious dinner and partaking of a fine IPA after coming home alone.

Sometimes I feel like I am reading a dating site profile, with just as much realism. How about grabbing the first thing you see in the fridge and turning on the news like the rest of us schlubs?

What event are you training for? What keeps the fire burning?

All-in-all, I (66M) live a pretty small life. I work out (train?) almost every day—walking, bicycling, swimming, lifting, kayaking. But it seems like the big adventures, the rites of passage, are becoming less physically achievable as I get older. A lot of the motivation for the big challenges has also lessened. I kayak in a nearby reservoir and river, and don’t really want to travel from the East Coast to kayak down the Snake river. I am not really able to bicycle 100 miles in one go, and I know it would hurt if I tried. I like walking 10k in a flat, nearby park—no mountain climbing for me, cleaning the living room can seem exhausting. And so on. I work out locally and sometimes I wonder if I work out just to work out, without any goal beyond the day’s workout. What event are you training for? What keeps you hungry?

How to appropriately respond to an attorney in flip flops, short pants and shirt?

Hello,

A few years ago I (66M) had an initial visit with a young attorney in my town to discuss the possibility of getting a divorce. I paid $275 up front for an hour of his time. He showed up in flip flops, short pants and shirt and explained that he had just been at his son’s baseball game. His BA was from University of Tennessee (Summa Cum Laude), JD University of South Carolina. He took a few notes about my assets and said he would get back in touch (he never did). I was courteous and did not say anything, but truthfully, I felt disrespected and looked down upon. How can I prevent an attorney from treating me this way in the future? I wonder if I would have been treated differently if I was a high status individual. My father and grandfather were doctors and I know how to give professional cues.

Will losing weight improve my cardio performance?

I (66M, 6’1”, 270 lbs) am scheduled to begin taking Zepbound at 2.5 mg. One of my primary motivations for taking Zepbound is the assumption that if I was carrying a lot less weight I would be a faster swimmer, walker, and bicyclist. However, reading this sub it seems like it may not be so simple as lower weight = faster times. Am I about to be disappointed about performance gains?

It seems like a waste to travel to a foreign country just to spend time grinding on homework, but on the other hand if the goal is to learn the language and, depending on the situation, get a good grade, then maybe it makes sense. It’s like if your company sends you to Paris, your purpose is to do your job, not tour the city.
