Actors I met at Birmingham MCM Con

The other day, I went to the Birmingham MCM Con. It was incredible and I met both Bryce Papenbrook for Eren and Meliodas and Todd Haberkorn for Natsu and Allen while I was there. I had really amazing conversations with both of them and I had an amazing day.

Meeting Todd Haberkorn for Natsu [Media]

Yesterday was incredible because I went to the Birmingham MCM Con I met Todd Haberkorn, the English voice actor for Natsu, Allen in D.Gray-Man, Kidd in Soul Eater and a whole bunch more. He was insanely kind and great to chat to as well. Guess, I asked him to sign my final volume of Fairy Tail, though, again, I was debating for a while what I wanted him to sign. Either this or the newest omnibus of D.Gray-Man. We then had a great chat where like just talking about my love of anime and manga, I showed him my collection which he was also really impressed by, then I asked him who was his favourite character he’s ever voiced too and he said it kinda depends on the script and the director he has, obviously in a joking way, but probably Natsu at the moment. I then mentioned how he usually tends to play characters who are completely insane like Natsu or Kidd and he thought that was funny. I then also mentioned to him too how I’m a YouTuber and how I talk about anime and manga all the time. Speaking of YouTube, I also mentioned how it was cool when he was part of the WatchMojo video when they counted down their top 10 Fairy Tail moments, so just having him part of a YouTube channel like that that I love and is really inspirational to me was really cool to see. I then told him how Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is my favourite anime of all time and also my favourite TV show of all time too. He said he could completely understand and that it was a great choice. I then mentioned to him how, because I’ve seen so many series, it fun to notice him in different series. Whether it’s a big role like Natsu, Allen, Kidd and so on, or even just much smaller roles like as Kanryu from the new Rurouni Kenshin series and stuff like that. I then asked him what’s been his favourite thing he ever voiced and recorded. He said he really enjoys voicing power up moments. I then started telling him how I feel like Fullmetal Alchemist and D.Gray-Man are very similar. Like how I feel the art style is similar in both of them and also how Ed and Allen are kinda similar. I’ve always felt like Allen looked a lot like Ed when we first meet him just without the braided hair and how both can transform their arms. Ed can use Alchemy to make his automail arm into things like blades and Allen can use his Innocence to make his cursed arm huge. He wondered if maybe that was intentional and if it was an inspiration. For the photo, I asked him to hold my Natsu scarf, though he then actually put it on. I only asked him to hold it but it was still cool he actually put it on. Overall, it was still incredible to meet him.

Meeting Bryce Papenbrook for Eren

Yesterday was absolutely phenomenal. I went to the Birmingham MCM Con and met a bunch of cosplayers. Had really great chats with a bunch of them. And, it was especially amazing because I met Bryce Papenbrook who plays Eren, Meliodas in The Seven Deadly Sins, Rin in Blue Exorcist, Inosuke from Demon Slayer and so many others. It was incredible to finally meet him since I’ve wanted to for a long time. Speaking of a long time, the actual waiting time to see him was insane, I was waiting in the line to see him for four whole hours. Yeah, it was pretty insane. But it was definitely worth it in the end. First, I asked him to sign my final Colossal Edition of the Attack On Titan manga, though I was debating for ages whether I wanted him to sign that or the final omnibus of The Seven Deadly Sins manga, but I went with what he was most likely best known for. Anyway, I then started talking to him about my love of anime and manga and how I’ve wanted to meet him for a long time. I also spoke to him about how I knew a lot about his history of acting like starting off doing voice roles for Power Rangers when he was a kid and how his Dad was part of it too. I then asked him who was his favourite character he’s ever voiced and he said it was really hard to choose. I then showed him my anime and manga collection, which he was really impressed by, and I also brought up how it’s really fun for me to watch as much anime as I have and notice him in so many different series. I then showed him how I’ve met so many other anime voice actors over the years like Zach Aguilar since he voices Tanjiro in Demon Slayer too, and even more tragic stuff like how I met Mike McFarland two years ago who plays Master Roshi in Dragon Ball, and the reason that’s tragic is because of the treatment he’s currently in with his brain cancer. I also mentioned how I met Erica Mendez and Cristina Vee since they voice Diane and Hawk in The Seven Deadly Sins and so it’s fun to notice actors in the same anime like that in the same series and then as protagonists in other series. Then, for the photo, I asked him to hold my O.D.M sword from Attack On Titan as well as Lostvayne, Meilodas’s sword, and it made it even better since because that Eren and Meliodas’s swords and he’s dual wielding like Inosuke. I also told him how I’m a YouTuber and how I talk about anime and manga all the time, and how I even recently made a list of my top 10 saddest deaths from Attack On Titan and he also thought it was funny when I mentioned how I made a list of my top 50 favourite English dub anime actors and I put him at number 6, he said “All right, I made it in the top 10” and so that was really funny. Anyway, it was still absolutely amazing to meet him and absolutely incredible to meet another actor I’ve wanted to meet for a long, long time.

Meeting Amanda C. Miller for Boruto

April a few months ago was absolutely incredible. I went to the For The Love Of Anime Con in Manchester and was able to meet Amanda C. Miller who voices Boruto. She was super kind and I also had a great chat with her. First, I asked her to sign my final volume of Boruto and then we started talking about the series. I mentioned how I’ve been a huge fan of the Naruto franchise for about 15 years. I then told her about how I met Maile Flanagan, who voices Naruto himself, three years ago and so it’s nice to have now met both Naruto and Boruto. I asked her what made her want to do the voice for Boruto and she mentioned how she was working with Viz for the dub of Sailor Moon and they asked her if she’d be interested in doing the voice for him and she accepted. I then mentioned how I was disappointed when the anime was cancelled, but I’m hoping they bring it back, especially since I’m keeping up with the new chapters and she said how she hasn’t heard anything but the Japanese actress for him has done some recording recently and has spoken about it possibly coming back, so I said I hope it does at some point, especially since I’ve always found the series, and Boruto as a character, very underrated. I also asked her who was her favourite character she’s ever voiced and she said it was a character named Jo from a show called Kid Cosmic on Netflix. I then actually showed her my copy of the first volume of O-Parts Hunter, which was a manga created by Masashi Kishimoto’s twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, and I told her about how, not only did they grow up drawing manga together which led to their styles looking exactly the same, but that Seishi had to put a message in the first volume telling people that he was Masashi’s twin because a lot of people didn’t know that and so were accusing him of plagiarism. I also asked her why she also has the name Bennet Abara. I’ve seen her be called both Amanda C. Miller and Bennet Abara. She mentioned that Amanda is her real name, but, when she was starting acting, a lot of people had the name Amanda C. Miller, so she uses the name Bennet Abara as like a stage name. I also brought up the inspiration Kishimoto had with Naruto as a whole like with Dragon Ball and how Naruto helping Boruto make a huge Rasengan is similar to the Father-Son Kamehameha from Dragon Ball. I then mentioned that, whenever I meet an actor or actress for an anime character, I always like to ask them to write a quote from the character that embodies what the character is in terms of their personalities or just represents who they are as a character. Again, just awesome to meet her and talk to her about my love for the Naruto franchise.

Sora at Disneyland

So, I’ve gone to Disneyland dressed as Sora twice. Once was in August 2017 as KH2 Sora and second in July 2022. It’s been a lot of fun considering I’ve seen people dress as Kingdom Hearts characters in Disneyland and Disneyworld before. Being able to go there and do a whole bunch of references with characters as well as when I was on rides is great to do. Especially when some people recognise who I’m supposed to be. Being able to do some of Sora’s moves on rides like the ferris wheel and teacup ride was fun too. Woulda been cool to bring my Keyblade with me, especially when meeting some characters, but these are still great to do regardless.

All my Kingdom Hearts games together

So, my Dad went back home on Saturday and came back yesterday. He brought back a whole bunch of my Kingdom Hearts stuff. I brought over a few of the games myself last week, but Dad brought back the last of it today. It’s great to have all of my Kingdom Hearts games together over here where I am. Plus, a couple of them are signed. I already mentioned how I met Paul St. Peter back in April who plays Xemnas and he signed my 1.5 + 2.5 for the PS4 and Jim Cummings who plays Pete, Pooh and Tigger who I met back in 2021 and he signed my Kingdom Hearts 3. Also, you can notice that between Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 is the Gameboy version of Chain Of Memories. There’s actually a really fun story about that. I remember it was around 2010 or 2011 when I was walking through the city with my family one day and we went into this old technology store. I think my Dad or brother wanted something from there. I remember we went in and while they were doing that, I was at the counter and it was one of those glass counter things with things inside the counter and I remember seeing a copy of Chain Of Memories there. I remember sorta freaking out because I couldn’t believe it was actually there and I wanted it so bad. My parents asked the person behind the counter if they could hold onto it for me because my birthday was coming up and we decided I would use my birthday money to buy it. Then, some time after my birthday, my brother took the money, went to the shop and got it for me. So, yeah, a fun little story I remember. Though, I was insanely stupid and actually damaged the box it came in and it got dumped. I wish I still had it. But all of these are still great to have, and I also included the art books I have as well as the steel books and CD of Kingdom Hearts 2. Also, and I don’t care if this makes me sound like a weird collector, but when they announced that new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer last month, they announced they’re also bringing all the games to PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in October and I’m hoping to get both of those. I may have so many versions of the same games, but I just love having all of these. Also, a while back, I was thinking about what I could bring to Cons if I ever meet more Kingdom Hearts actors. I mentioned Jim and Paul, but I’d love to meet more in the future and I like the idea of thinking which game I’d want them each to sign like asking David Gallagher who plays Riku to sign Dream Drop Distance since that’s a lot like a Riku game and asking Alyson Stoner who’s the second actress for Kairi and Xion to sign Melody Of Memory since that’s a lot like a Kairi game. And, again, just thinking of who can sign what is really fun to think about. Either way, I just love having these here and the thought of getting 1-3 and then eventually KH4 with all of these is so exciting.

Kingdom Hearts figure collection

I’ve been collecting Kingdom Hearts figures for years and I have a bunch of Bring Arts like all the trios and Naminé as well as figures of the characters throughout the games, one for Cloud to go with Kingdom Hearts 2 Sora, a Maleficent figure with Heartless Bring Arts, the evolution of Sora, Riku and Kairi, all of Sora’s main outfits in all the games, as many Pop Vinyls I could find, Toy Sora, Donald and Goofy with my Woody and Buzz, KH2 Sora Donald and Goofy vs. Maleficent and her Heartless, Sora, Riku and Kairi running at my local beach, and then almost all of the Sora figures I have showing a lot of his clothes in the series.

Sora vs. Bosses recreations

I’ve met a ton of awesome cosplayers at Cons and it’s been great to get photos with other Kingdom Hearts cosplayers. I’ve been able to meet cosplayers for most of the members of the Organization, Vanitas, Maleficent and Sephiroth. I hope to meet more in the future. It’d be great if I could meet the other Organization members and Disney villains. A couple of these are when I tried to use a wig for the cosplay, but it really didn’t work. Hopefully I can get a proper one in the future.

100 Acre Wood photo recreations

A few years ago, I used my Winnie The Pooh plushies to take these photos recreating different moments from Sora in the 100 Acre Wood like all the book covers, all the ending shots finishing the world and I even went to my actual local woods and took some photos recreating moments there like Sora meeting Pooh, pushing him on the swing and find Eeyore his home and getting bounced by Tigger.

Actors I’ve met as Sora

These are just some of the voice actors I’ve met over the years and I’ve met them all as Sora. I’ve met a whole lot more, but these are just some of them like Maile Flanagan who plays Naruto, Colleen Clinkenbeard who plays Luffy, Erica Mendez who plays Gon, Zach Aguilar who plays Tanjiro and a whole lot more. Some of them knew who I was and some didn’t. Zach actually thought I was Roxas and another actor is Paul St. Peter who plays Xemnas in Kingdom Hearts and Kurama in Naruto and it was great to meet him and talk to him about how he’s in two of my favourite franchises of all time with Kingdom Hearts and Naruto. Just great to talk to all these people and see which of them knows who Sora is and just being able to talk to them and get photos with them is always so exciting.

Wearing my Sora costumes at Disney movies

These are all the Disney movies I’ve seen in the cinema wearing my Sora outfit and gotten a picture. I started doing it back in 2018. These ones are…
Ralph Breaks The Internet
Mary Poppins Returns
Toy Story 4
Frozen 2
Onward
Encanto
Lightyear
Strange World
Wish
Moana 2
Hoppers
Toy Story 5
There’s definitely been instances where I’ve worn it for other Disney movies too like Elio and Zootropolis 2, but I wasn’t able to get a picture with the poster. It’s a weird thing because for Ralph Breaks The Internet and Toy Story 4, I was able to get pictures with the poster at the cinema, but then Frozen 2 and Onward, I just did a picture in front of the screen. It wasn’t until Encanto and everything after that I decided it would just be with the poster at the cinema. It was pretty inconsistent at the start, but now this is how I do it. I wish there were posters of Elio and Zootropolis 2 when I saw them, but, oh well. I still love doing these though I’m excited to do it for later movies.

My exclusive mangas

So, yesterday, the U.K. WaterStones exclusive volume for the final volume of Jujutsu Kaisen was released and I managed to get it. This means I now have all the exclusive volumes that were released for it. Not only that, but I was also able to get the exclusive volumes for the final volume of My Hero Academia at the start of the year. The only ones released here were the Midoriya one and the Yuji vs. Sukuna ones. All the others I had to order on eBay from America. They all look amazing together like this. I hope other series have them too. I think it would make sense for Chainsaw Man to do the same thing.

Meeting Brad Swaile for Light

Last Saturday was incredible. I went to the London MCM Con and met a huge amount of cosplayers. This was easily the most amount of cosplayers I ever met at a Con. And it was especially amazing because I met Brad Swaile, the English voice actor for Light from Death Note. He was so unbelievably nice and I had a really great chat with him. First, I asked him to sign my first Black Edition of the Death Note manga. We then started talking about the series. I started talking about how I watch so many different anime and how it’s interesting that a lot of great series out there are power centred action series like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach and so on and it’s interesting that Death Note is more of supernatural detective series. I also mentioned how it’s interesting that the series seems a bit more grounded compared to those series and he joked how I said it’s grounded despite the series having Shinigami in it. I mentioned how it’s similar to Bleach in that way with being set in the real world and focusing on Shinigami. I mentioned how it’s interesting how the protagonist was basically the main villain. How Light wasn’t like other Shōnen Jump protagonists with fighting for his friends but was just the main villain doing everything for himself. I mentioned how I also love Light’s dynamic with the other characters like L, Ryuk and Misa, especially with how everything that happens was because of Ryuk. The fact that Ryuk was essentially manipulating Light the entire time since he didn’t really care about what was going on, he was just doing it for his own amusement. I asked him who was his favourite character he’s voiced and he said either Light or Nightcrawler in X-Men: Evolution. I also mentioned how I’ve seen him in other anime too like as Rock from Black Lagoon. I then asked him what did he think of the anime’s version of the ending since it’s different from the manga. After Light is discovered by Near in the manga, Light is essentially humiliated and then Ryuk kills him as appose to the anime where Light escapes and dies with a bit of dignity as he dies peacefully. He said he prefers the anime’s version since we see Light sorta reflecting on everything as he runs away and he actually prefers that he died with a bit of dignity. I mentioned how I’ve been thinking of something about that lately. A lot of anime’s based on mangas definitely help boost their series’s popularity and so the anime is generally viewed more and I assumed maybe the people behind the scenes thought they wanted to have their main character not be completely humiliated at the end before dying. That’s just a small theory I thought of. I also asked him whether he thought Light should have won in the end or not. He said he wasn’t really sure and I mentioned how that always seems to be divided amongst the fanbase. I told him how I’m a YouTuber who talks about anime and manga all the time and that I made a Community post a while back asking people the same question and it was a very 50/50 split. I also told him how, whenever I meet an anime actor, I like to ask them to write a quote that embodies the character. Like it shows who they are and their personalities. In this instance, the quote I asked him to write embodies Light’s arrogance and his god complex. Anyway, for the photo, I asked him to hold my Death Note and look like he’s about to write a name in it. I also showed him my anime and manga collection and he loved how much I had. Also, Brian Drummond who plays Ryuk and Alessandro Juliani who plays L were there too. I didn’t see them because I didn’t have enough money. Either way, it was still amazing to see Brad and have a great chat with him.

All my current manga art books

So, today, I was able to get a couple more manga art books. These are now all the current ones I own. I’m so unbelievably happy with the way it’s grown since I started getting them last year. Also, the one for My Hero Academia is out in Japan but the English version will be out towards the end of the year, so I’m very excited for that. Either way, I’m still happy with the way I’ve been able to get a lot of these and I heard there’s even more that weren’t released in English that I’d be able to get the Japanese versions of like there’s one for Gintama, Slam Dunk and few others I’d love to get just to see the artwork inside them. I wish a lot of other series had them too. Speaking of, the actual artwork in all of these are incredible. All the artist’s work and how they have a lot of these on huge paper is absolutely gorgeous to look at. It’s also interesting how some of these are formatted very differently and how some are similar but they’re all still amazing to look at regardless.
