Which version of the Linux kernel am I running?

Is there an easy way to find out? I have a RB5009UG running with 7.23.3, but it's not visible which version of the Linux kernel the MikroTik is running.

Reason I'm interested in, is that sometimes I get a lot of port flapping, sometimes to the point where ports are basically unsable (especailly when using VPN or Citrx or alikes).

What I found is, that powering off the router and restart helps to stabilizes it for some time. But that's not something I'd like to do on a regular basis.

As there are updates for the mv88e6xxx driver (which includes the switch chip on the RB5009UG), I was wondering if there might be something in the newer drivers which would fix the observed behavior (even if I cannot update the kernel myself).
I think to remember to have found a discussion with a patch for a similar issue (switch chip not MikroTik) in past, but can't re-find it...

FOSS software which allows folding 2D cut shapes into 3D structures?

Not sure if something like this exists, but if the swarm of this sub wouldn't know who would?

I want to build a structure out of an cell foam board (the "box" to convert a monoblock AC to a dual pipe version). I'd love if I could prepare for that by designing it in 2D as a cut shape and fold it virtually to a 3D shape to see it if looks I'm imaging it.

A bit like the reverse process of unfolding a cube, but not everything would at a right angle.

When this works I'd use the dimension to cut the actual foam panel and bend and glue it to shape.

Is there a software which would allow me to do this?

Is there a way to search within a specific store?

With new EU regulations in place it semms better to order from one seller since the automatic tariff seems to be based in parts of the items bought and in parts based on the number of sellers in the combined order.

adding the cheapests items from multiple sellers might cost more than having the same items from one seller due to tariffs...

So

Block a street from route planning?

Planing a trip shortly and I know that part of my regular route will be blocked due to construction work.

Is there a way to let Goolge maps calculate a different route already considering the chnage right now so that I can get an estimate how long the alternative route would take?

I only found an option for additional stops but can't find anything to prevent it from using a specific street / bridge / tunnel / etc.

Smallest partition for MacOS on MacBook Pro [mid 2018]?

I have a MacBook Pro [mid 2018] with a rather small SSD of about 256GB.

My understanding is that it is suggested to keep some minimal working MacOS as some firmware blobs are not part of the linux distributions and justt in case something on the Linux side gets borked.

What's the smallest I should go? Can someone recommend a tutorial?

Random keys are not working in some applications

Something strange is going on with my Win11 installation. In some apps random keys such as "c" / "v" or "backspace" don't work anymore. It happens at least in

  • Firefox
  • Notepad++

As I have a QMK-based TKL keyboard I thought I might have messed up something on the last update. Replacing the keyboard with a regular one doesn't change anything.

To check if it migt be related to something in the apps I opened a regular shell where all the keys work. They also work after a reboot for some time.

Another issue is that the left klick on my mouse also does not work as expected. I can't open links anymore, I have to rely on the middle mouse button.

Connecting to the same machine via the RDP / Windows app does not seem to have any issues.

So my best guess it could have something to do with the USB layer, but it doesn't make really sense as the same keys work in the shell window...

Any ideas what's going on or how I can track down or further analyse the issue?

Fast reconnect?

Just updated from 7.22.3 to 7.23. Something has changed, which "breaks my workflow".

With 7.22.3 I could select the PPPoE interface in the UI, hit apply and it would reconnect.

With 7.23 this behavior seems to have changed, so that nothing happens, when none of the values of the interface have changed.

Is there a simple way to force reconnect? (I know I can disable/apply & enable/apply but that's more steps than before.)

PeaZip extract smart folder could be smarter

Not sure if this is the right place but on the GitHub project there is no issue tab... So I might try my luck here.
----
Sometimes I have multipart RARs with names such as:

  • foobar.part1.rar
  • foobar.part2.rar
  • foobar.part3.rar

When I open the first one (foobar.part1.rar) and use Extract here (smart new folder) the resulting folder is named "foobar.part1" which could be smarter, as ".part1" is actually part of the RAR semantic (which PeaZip understands, as it unpacks the contents from all RARs). Tested whith v11.0 & v11.1.

So my expectation would be that the resulting folder is actually named "foobar".

Alternative for "Nittaku Factive" rubber?

In my area it's hard to find the Nittaku Factive rubber at local stores (I don't glue myself).

What I like about the Factive:

- It's not that tacky but it generates a lot of spin on serves and attacks

- The sponge isn't hard, which gives me a little more time to direct the ball in the desired direction (I felt the 2mm version better than 1.8mm in term of handling)

- It’s not too fast for close-to-the-table play, but fast enough to launch (counter)attacks from a distance.

- If feels very controlled when playing with it.

So, aside from availability, I really like this rubber (it could maybe be just a tiny bit faster, but really just a tiny bit).

I usually have light, hard blades (carban fiber inlays) in the AR+/OF range (depending on what the manufacturer rate them...).

Do you have any recommendations for alternatives?

Luckily, my Kindle is already unlocked. I wonder if https://copy.fail/ might be a solution or a starting point for all those Kindles that are currently still out of luck.

To open VSCode from mostly everywhere I have created a Quick Action based on https://gist.github.com/Sdaas/4cb70d3ac8780d64d889edc047108464.

This works fine as long I can select a file or folder. However it does not work when I'm already in the folder and want to open itself.

Is there a way? (Especially e.g. for empty folders, if the folder contains any file I guess I could take the file and detect its parent dir path but this is ugly as hell...)
