Why ATTO makes sense in the mini camera category

Why ATTO makes sense in the mini camera category

Comparison Chart

Mini cameras are getting more capable every year, but the real question is not always who has the loudest launch or the most expensive kit.

For most creators, the question is simpler:

Can I carry it easily?

Can I mount it quickly?

Can I get clean 4K footage without overthinking the setup?

Does the price actually make sense for how I use it?

That is where XTRA ATTO fits in.

ATTO is built for real-world creator moments: travel, family clips, pets, outdoor days, cycling, motorcycle POV, behind-the-scenes shots, and the kind of quick everyday footage you usually miss because setting up a bigger camera feels annoying.

Compared with other mini cameras in the category, ATTO focuses on a strong balance of practical features: 1/1.3-inch sensor, 4K/60fps video, 10-bit X-Log, 128GB built-in storage, 10m waterproof camera body, 54g lightweight design, and up to 220 minutes of max recording time.

Of course, different cameras make sense for different users.

Insta360 GO 3S is extremely small and easy to mount.

GO Ultra pushes further into premium mini camera performance.

DJI Osmo Nano brings DJI’s workflow, D-Log M, and ecosystem advantages.

But ATTO is designed for creators who want strong everyday performance at a smarter price.

It is not about making the most complicated camera.

It is about making a mini camera that is easy to take anywhere, simple to use, and capable enough for the moments creators actually shoot.

For travel, POV, family, pets, outdoor use, and daily movement, ATTO gives creators a practical balance of image quality, battery life, storage, portability, and value.

That is why we think ATTO deserves a closer look.

If you had a tiny wearable camera like ATTO, what would you actually use it for?

POV walks? Bike rides? Travel clips?

Personally, I think underwater shots could be really fun too. Pool days, beach trips, snorkeling clips, or just random summer moments from an angle your phone probably wouldn’t survive.

We want to see who has the most creative everyday use case!

Which MUSE 2 combo would you actually pick?

Hey everyone!

We’re getting ready for MUSE 2 / MUSE 2 Pro, and wanted to hear directly from the community:

https://www.instagram.com/p/DYH7ObsAcHr/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

If you had to choose one setup, which combo would make the most sense for how you actually shoot?

Standard Combo: just the essentials
Creator Combo: built for more flexibility
Vlog Combo: ready to shoot and go

We know different people use pocket cameras in very different ways — travel clips, daily vlogs, cycling, hiking, family moments, or just casual everyday footage.

So we’re curious:

Which combo would you pick?
And more importantly, what would you want included in the box to make it really worth it?Drop your thoughts below. We’ll be reading through the comments and sharing feedback with the team.

Aftercare matters too, so here is how XTRA handles support in the US

https://preview.redd.it/kfkpjp527e0h1.png?width=1448&format=png&auto=webp&s=e6ba1a87d53d05f0093b9d5312eeeceefe18c846

We have seen a fair question come up a few times:

If XTRA is a newer brand, what happens after you buy the camera?

That is a valid concern. Buying a pocket camera is not only about specs, 4K, stabilization, or new hardware. It is also about what happens if you need help later.

So we wanted to explain this clearly instead of just saying “don’t worry.”

For purchases made through the XTRA official online store, our after sales policy includes return and refund service, replacement service, and warranty repair service.

A few important points:

XTRA offers a 30 day return and refund window from the day after you receive the product, as long as the return conditions are met.

XTRA Muse has a 24 month warranty period.

For return requests, our policy states that we review the request within 24 hours.

After the returned product is received and checked, we notify the customer of the refund result within 2 working days.

We also list US local service, local repair center access, and authorized retail channels on our US store.

This does not mean every situation is automatically covered. Like most camera brands, proof of purchase is required, and damage from unauthorized modification, misuse, or non covered causes may not qualify.

But we do want people to know that XTRA is not trying to be a “buy it and you are on your own” brand.

We understand why people compare aftercare with bigger names. That is fair. Larger brands have had more time to build trust.

For us, the goal is simple: give creators another real option with strong value, and support that option with clear policies, official channels, and local service access.

At the end of the day, a camera should give you more confidence to create, not more anxiety after checkout.

If anyone has questions about warranty, returns, repair, or where to buy, feel free to ask here and we’ll try to answer clearly!

We posted this thought on Threads earlier and wanted to share it here too, because it feels especially true with pocket cameras right now.

Everyone is comparing specs, leaks, new releases, and which camera is “the one” to wait for. Muse, Muse 2 Pro, Pocket 3, Luna, phones, bigger cameras… . There is always going to be another option coming.

But for everyday creators, the real question is usually much simpler:

Did you actually press records today?

Some of the best content online is still shot on an iPhone. Not because the iPhone is always the best camera, but because the creator had an idea, saw a moment, and actually captured it.

That is the part people sometimes forget.

Better gear can help. If you already use XTRA MUSE or Pocket 3 and you care about better image quality, low light, or a more polished shooting experience, waiting for MUSE 2 / MUSE 2 PRO makes sense.

But if you already have a camera in your pocket, whether that is MUSE, a phone, or anything else, you already have enough to start.

Great content usually comes from the idea behind the shot, what story you are trying to tell, and how you approach the gear you have. Not just from having the newest or fanciest setup.

That is also what we think about XTRA.

We want to give creators more options, not more anxiety. More ways to start, not more reasons to wait forever.

So if you are a small creator, traveler, filmmaker, parent, student, or just someone trying to document life a little more, start with whatever you have now.

The camera matters.

But the action matters more.

Color Grading my shot with Xtra Muse

Took my newly acquired XTRA MUSE out for a run and did a quick edit afterwards. I ended up going with XTRA over something like DJI mainly because of the price difference. I’ve used the Pocket 4 before, and since XTRA is just their rebrand with pretty much the same spec all around, is relatively easy for me to get my hands on both the product and their app Shot everything in X-Log (basically XTRA’s version of D-Log), did some light color correction in post, mostly just balancing exposure, pulling highlights down a bit, and adding a touch of contrast and warmth before finding the right Lut and Vignette to make it a dreamy like vibe I was going for
I also tried using the clamp mount to get some overhead angles, which added a bit more variety compared to the usual POV shots
Overall it’s been pretty easy to shoot and edit with so far. Curious how others are grading their footage or what mounts you’ve been using lately.

Hi everyone — wanted to share a small observation and get your thoughts.

We’ve been seeing more third-party coverage around wearable/pocket cameras recently. For example, B&H featured a DIY Photography roundup in their “First Takes” newsletter, comparing options like Xtra Atto, Insta360 GO, and DJI Osmo Nano from a real-world shooting perspective.

Reference:
https://links.bhphotovideo.com/u/gm.php?prm=BT1FspIp0s_897814043_90149_1&_esuh=_11_c2e63ef24cfbff33a8348a0b9758574a9991aa576baacc1fdd40a8c92c90aae8

What stood out to us is that the article wasn’t just asking which camera has the biggest number on paper. It looked more at how each one fits into different creator workflows — things like hands-free POV capture, quick storage/offload, color flexibility, and whether the camera is actually easy to use in unpredictable shooting moments.

A lot of wearable cams are now close enough in resolution, sensor size, and basic video features that the real difference comes down to practical details: Can you capture the moment before it’s gone? Can you manage files easily? Can the footage hold up in editing?

That’s also why it was interesting to see Atto compared directly alongside more established names. For a newer option to be discussed in the same context, the conversation seems less about brand familiarity and more about whether the tool solves real shooting problems.

From our side, this is something we’re paying close attention to as well — especially as the category keeps expanding and more creators start looking beyond traditional action cam use cases.

Curious how everyone here thinks about wearable cameras today: are specs still the main deciding factor, or are workflow and reliability starting to matter more?

After the February 2026 firmware update, Xtra now natively supports DJI Mic Mini and DJI Mic 2 wireless connection. This guide uses Xtra Atto as an example to walk you through the full setup from firmware upgrade to the first audio bar.

Step 1: Download or update the Xtra app Required first

The firmware is only available through the Xtra app — not on the website. Make sure you have the latest version installed on your phone before proceeding.

https://preview.redd.it/2fw4zi7zglyg1.jpg?width=764&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5908456d24f97026417e7e0e4d5b33aaccf6efc

Step 2: Connect your Atto to the Xtra app

Open the app and connect your Atto via Wi-Fi or USB cable. The app will automatically detect your camera and check for available updates.

https://preview.redd.it/he0trgnehlyg1.png?width=1179&format=png&auto=webp&s=eb8c1df45856cfad8962a539199230780c8f6ec0

Step 3: Install the firmware update

You'll see a firmware notification in the app. Tap it to begin. If no notification appears, force-close the app and reopen it. The update takes around 2–3 minutes. Keep the camera connected and don't power it off during this step.

https://preview.redd.it/qf3shj7jhlyg1.png?width=1179&format=png&auto=webp&s=4cc6a421a848c40f0edca4cb13947d59473676c4

Step 4: Confirm the "Wireless Mic" menu is now visible

Once updated, open your camera's settings. You should now see a new Wireless Mic option in the menu — this confirms the firmware installed correctly.

https://preview.redd.it/nv9esvhmhlyg1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=005f4d5c270282ed5f9051869904fa9cbc630cc0

Step 5: Power on your DJI Mic Mini or DJI Mic 2 transmitter and put your mic into pairing mode

Press and hold the power button on your transmitter until the LED indicator lights up. Make sure the mic is charged before pairing. On the DJI Mic Mini: press and hold the button until the light blinks rapidly. On the DJI Mic 2: tap the pairing button on the transmitter — it will enter pairing mode automatically.

https://preview.redd.it/ozfns1xohlyg1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=7366428b1470f3eb264980a44b8020554a5ce1d4

Step 6: Confirm — watch the audio bars appear

Your Atto will scan for nearby transmitters. The connection happens over Bluetooth and completes in a few seconds.

Live audio meters (1–5 bars) will appear on-screen the moment pairing succeeds. Speak into the mic and verify the bars respond. You're good to record.

https://preview.redd.it/zigq0rorhlyg1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=68d503c2464fd1b3d7d047975f259941e2575ea9

Additional tips & notes

  • Once paired, the mic reconnects automatically next time both devices are powered on.
  • Keep the transmitter within 30–50 feet of the camera for best signal quality.
  • This update applies to all Xtra cameras: Muse, Atto, Edge Pro, Edge, and Sphra360.

What are you hoping to see in the next Xtra firmware update?

Better stabilization, new mic support, manual audio controls? Let us know your thoughts!

We've been seeing a lot of questions about Focus Lock laely, so wanted to share some practical guidance on how to get the most out of it — along with a bit of context on how it actually works under the hood.

How Focus Lock actually works on the Xtra Muse

Focus Lock isn't a standalone autofocus mode — it's the subject-tracking side of the Xtra Muse's Master Follow system. When you tap a subject on the 2-inch OLED touchscreen, the camera locks onto that face or object and uses the built-in 3-axis gimbal motors to keep them physically centered in frame. The tracking system responds within 0.3 seconds of subject movement, which is fast enough for dynamic content like walking shots, dance, and stunts.

This is also what separates it from basic face detection on cheaper cameras — the gimbal and the tracking work together, so you're not just getting a software crop; the whole camera physically follows your subject.

Focus Lock vs. Frame Lock — what's the difference?

These two get confused a lot, so worth clarifying:

  • Focus Lock — tracks and centers your subject automatically as they move. This is the hands-free tracking mode for solo vlogging and action shots.
  • Frame Lock — applies intelligent composition modes on top of tracking, including a Fibonacci spiral layout for cinematic framing. Think of it as the creative framing layer that works alongside Focus Lock.

Tips for more consistent tracking

  • Move smoothly — Master Follow handles dynamic movement well, but sudden direction changes or speed bursts are where tracking most often drops. Gradual, fluid motion — even during jumps or spins — keeps the lock stable.
  • Simplify your background — Cluttered or visually busy backgrounds give the system more to parse. A clean separation between you and the background makes tracking much more reliable, especially indoors.
  • Leave room in the frame — If you're filling the entire screen edge to edge, recovery is harder if the system briefly loses you. Backing up slightly gives Focus Lock more room to reacquire without interrupting the shot.
  • Use good contrast lighting — The 1-inch CMOS sensor excels in low light, but the tracking itself benefits from strong contrast between subject and background. Well-lit outdoor scenes or controlled indoor setups make a noticeable difference.

If it does lose the subject, a quick tap to reselect on the touchscreen gets it back immediately. Don't stop recording — just tap and keep going.

Where it performs best

  • Solo vlogging on a tripod — jump, dance, present, and Master Follow stays locked on you
  • Walking and travel shots — paired with the gimbal, this is where the Muse genuinely shines
  • Vertical/portrait mode — works in both orientations, so it's great for Reels and TikTok without any reconfiguring
  • Stunt and action shots — handles jumps and spins well as long as the lead-up movement is smooth

Looking ahead

There's been some discussion around how tracking may evolve with the Muse 2 Pro. Even small improvements to subject recognition in complex or fast-moving scenes can have a big real-world impact, so worth keeping an eye on how that develops.

Drop your setups or situations in the comments — especially if you've found scenarios where it excels or struggles and we might have some answers for you

We started this discussion over on Instagram and wanted to bring it here to get more input from the community as well:

https://www.instagram.com/p/DXrR6S0CION/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

When it comes to the next MUSE lineup — where do you land?

Single lens or dual lens?

On paper, dual lens offers more flexibility, but we’re curious how that translates into real-world use:

• Is dual lens something you’d actually use regularly?

• Does the added versatility outweigh size / cost?

• Or is single lens the more practical everyday setup?

Also — what’s one feature or improvement you’d want to see most this time around?

Appreciate any thoughts — this kind of feedback genuinely helps us shape things in a more practical direction!

Feels like we’ve entered that time of year again where “next-gen” is everywhere.

With the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 launching and the Insta360 Luna coming in June, there’s a lot of talk about what’s “revolutionary.” Sure, rumored stats like 4K video, 240fps, and powerful 1-inch sensors are cool on paper, but are they actually exciting? For example, the XTRA Muse vlogging camera has had a 1-inch sensor since it was released. If the Pocket 4 ends up being closer to a refined Pocket 3 with a faster chip, it might feel less like a full new generation and more like a solid incremental update.

What actually defines a “next-gen” camera today?

To me, a real generational leap should be a total shift in how we can use a camera, not just a 10% boost in low-light performance that nobody can even see on a phone screen. Especially for something like a vlogging camera, where usability matters more than specs. And to be fair — some of these ideas are genuinely interesting. Modular concepts like Luna, for example, at least try to rethink how a camera can be used.

But honestly, even with all this “next-gen” talk, it feels like what most people actually want isn’t a revolution — it’s just a more reliable upgrade.

A truly next-gen product should feel seamless:

  • Stable software that just works
  • No overheating or random shutdowns
  • A mature ecosystem that fits into real workflows
  • Consistency you can rely on when it actually matters

We’ve all seen what happens with first-gen “breakthrough” products — exciting ideas, but often paired with bugs, thermal issues, or unfinished software. Early innovation is important, but it doesn’t always translate into a better day-to-day tool.

A lot of brands are iterating right now — and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

At XTRA, we’ve always believed in iterative optimization.
Not chasing buzzwords, but improving based on real user feedback — refining what people actually use, fixing what actually breaks, and making the experience more dependable over time.

That philosophy is what’s been shaping the next step for us.

The MUSE 2 series is set to release this May (We just put up a small poll recently around color preferences — curious what everyone thinks, feel free to share here or on IG: https://www.instagram.com/p/DXgqGoRjXgU/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== ), and while we’re not here to call it “revolutionary,” the goal is simple: build something that feels more complete, more reliable, and more usable in real scenarios.

So instead of asking what sounds the most advanced on paper, maybe the better question is:

What would make a camera feel truly “next-gen” to you?

Is it:

  • A completely new way to shoot?
  • A better design or physical layout?
  • Or just a camera that works exactly how you expect it to, every time?

I think with Pocket 4 out now and Luna coming soon, we’ll also get a clearer picture of what direction things are heading. Also just curious on where everyone stands!
