BMW 520d M47 won’t start after running out of fuel – runs on brake cleaner then dies

2007 BMW 520d M47 engine
The car ran out of fuel. After putting more in, it started but was running very rough. It eventually smoothed out, but then about 10 minutes later (around 40miles) it died.
After that, it wouldn’t start again until the next morning, shown in the video
It will start briefly if I spray brake cleaner into the intake, runs for about 2 seconds, then dies again.
The battery died after trying to start it a couple times, but I’ve now replaced it and the issue is still exactly the same.
All fuses have been checked.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
