Just how good are Chinese Air defense systems?
We've all seen the rapid buildup of the Chinese military and, of course, with that comes rumors, propaganda and what not from all corners. One i often hear is that Chinese air defense has proven to be lackluster in the real world and then that argument is used to discredit the Chinese military as a whole.
Some examples that people bring up, true or false, are that Iran allegedly fielded bunch of Chinese air defense systems which also, allegedly again, were destroyed on the first days (I've yet to see credible evidence of this though).
Another example is the Venezuelan coup (or whatever you want to call it) were chinese radars where scrutinized: China's Hyped Radars Useless During US Air Assault on Venezuela - Business Insider
And finally the last one, to my recollection, is a incident in the sudanese conflict where a image of a FK-2000 system surfaced showing it completely destroyed.
Now, I know better than to take these claims at face value because there are incentives to lie and China also has some "wins" under their belts such as under Operation Sindoor in 2025 but i digress.
The question is as stated, although, knowing the secrecy the Chinese government seems to follow it is a tough question to answer. I am asking anyway if there is any indicator of the performance of Chinese systems as a whole and/or individual systems that could determine or give a decent/good insight of their performance or perhaps knowledge any of you on this subreddit could share regarding the topic.

reuters.comRussia to Show Su-57E with New Weapon at Egypt Airshow
Ignoring the source (because I couldn’t find any other English speaking source with a link), this is what rostec themselves put out: ”🪖 Rostec will present an export Su-57E with fundamentally new weapons for the first time in Egypt.
The Russian aircraft complex of the fifth generation Su-57E will be presented in export configuration at the El Alamein International Airshow 2026 exhibition in Egypt with fundamentally new weapons, which have never been demonstrated before either in Russia or abroad. As part of the flight program, the machine will demonstrate aerobatic figures.
"The Su-57 is the flagship fighter of the Russian Air Force, the characteristics of which are confirmed in real combat conditions. Now this plane is also conquering export markets. It is already being delivered to foreign partners who perfectly understand the advantages of this machine. New modifications of the fighter are becoming even more effective and dangerous. In Egypt, we present an export version with a completely new weapon, which is demonstrated for the first time," Rostec noted.
The Su-57E is characterized by inconspicuousness for enemy detection means, super-maneuverability and a wide range of weapons used.
The International Aviation and Space Salon El Alamein International Airshow 2026 will be held on the territory of the international airport of El Alamein in Egypt from September 8 to 10. The unified Russian exposition is organized by Rosoboronexport.”
Now, what exactly does ”fundamentally new” even mean? Seems like a pretty bold statement and another question is if that weapon will be specific to the export version or not. Some people on x speculate that it’s the izd 810 or the S-71K/M but I feel like those aren’t really ”fundamentally new” unless those words are used for the sole purpose of boosting the product.

Fear of heights?
So i've always been interested in mountaineering but never really done anything other than watch documentaries and videos about it due to my extreme fear of heights. Fear of heights seems, to me, like its pretty common (although affecting people with varying degrees) and it got me wondering how seemingly ordinary people nowadays can summit everest for example without much prior experience.
Of course not everyone is as scared as me of heights but standing in a line waiting to summit with maybe 1 meter margin to the edge and then a 2 kilometer drop has to nerve-racking for anyone, no? If we take mountaineers who are experienced, just how do people overcome the fear of heights or are everyone who summit mountains that big just born without that fear?
Russian general may have been target of Moscow restaurant bombing, reports say
While this kind of belongs in the news subreddits, I think it touches on the topics of assassination and the ethics of it. While it is unknown currently who the perpetrator is, due to the circumstances with the commander of vks being present, I’m inclined to believe the SBU is behind it.
It got me wondering what actually is ethical and what isn’t. Some sources say the woman carrying the device was unaware of its content. It certainly would not be the first time such a thing would have happened( allegedly the case of darya trepsova and possibly the case of two policemen being blowup along with the perpetrator in Moscow after the policemen likely interfered in the plot to plant a device on a car).
It raises the question of how moral it actually it is to have someone unknowing, plant the device, even for a good cause. It also raises the question of triggering the device when thwarted( even when the person carrying the device is aware of its content).
Interested to hear your thoughts, if this post is able to stay up, that is.

Nato expansion?
I read the dsa article about peace in Ukraine etc, and it seems to partly lay blame on nato expansion as a provocation for the war. How much do you guys agree with that idea is my genuine question?
Me myself, I’d say isn’t fair to lay blame on Ukraine especially since Russias motives seem to change from time to time. From wanting to join NATO, to wanting to denazify Ukraine to protecting the people of Donbas. Is it not ultimately up to a sovereign nation to decide what organizations to join? Furthermore it evident that Russias unjust invasions have caused more countries to join NATO on own initiatives.
Problem regarding 2-week trip to the U.S?
So I visited Iran for 3 weeks back in 2016. My question is if that will be a problem since I’m planning a 2 week vacation to the U.S in October. I do not have Citizenship in Iran ( I live in Europe).
Staying in islamorada for a week in November?
Is it doable, as in having stuff to do during those days like swimming, eating at different restaurants or even day trips to nearby keys? Or should I rather just stay in Miami for that week?
Nyc and Miami 2 weeks?
So me and my 2 mates plan on visiting the U.S for 2 weeks, likely going at the end of october. We're thinking that we spend about 5 days, visiting the classic sights, in nyc and the remaining 9 days or whatever is left after the flight in Miami and possibly visiting key west and the beaches during one of the days.
My main questions are if this is realistic and if there is anything you'd recommend or change in this "preliminary" plan.

Looked like some Asian numerals or letters on the left of the plate. Possibly Korean or Chinese?
