Do you see the immaculate attention to detail?
So i live in doha and i've been to this mall more times than i can count. you know, grab coffee, browse stores, whatever. and literally last week i stopped mid-stride because i actually saw the ceiling.
this isn't some niche gallery space. it's a functioning shopping mall where people are just... existing. but the architecture is insane.
the classical shell with those ornate details everywhere, then they overlay modern steel and glass without erasing any of it. the proportion work is ridiculous. notice how the arches don't feel cramped even though the space is basically a hallway. that's not accident.
here's what gets me though: everyone talks about organic curves and parametric design like it's the only way to do interesting architecture. but look at this. it's restrained. it knows what it is. the detail work serves the space, not the other way around.
i was taking these and some guy walking past was like "nice photos?" and didn't even realize why the space was worth photographing. which is kind of the point, right. the best design is the one you stop noticing until you actually stop.
what's something you walk past constantly that you've never actually looked at?
I am visiting San Salvador soon for a business conference (Early August) and will have several days to explore the city. I would love to see the light in the Iglesia Rosario like the picture above, what time of day would be the best for this? Sunset?
Also would love any other places you might recommend, thanks in advance!
