First of all, and to be clear, we're still Helldivers, so this Warbond is only conceived within the universe as a way to cosplay and inspire the brave soldiers of the SEAF. "That Helldiver could be you!"
With that clarified, the Warbond can only contain a maximum of 4 items, which can include primary or secondary weapons, throwable items, and/or stratagems. Additionally, it can contain at least one booster and one new armor passive. Finally, the Warbond can have up to two armor sets, and a third one available in the Super Shop.
With all that said, what ideas and concepts do you have in mind?
I think the image speaks for itself, so I'll just offer my own thoughts on why this would be an improvement over the current flag.
First, tell me which of these two options you prefer?
Using a spear that takes up your support weapon slot and only slightly stuns enemies, in addition to knocking them towards you, even though you have a secondary weapon that does practically the same thing (the stun lance).
Or, on the other hand, being able to use your secondary weapon while carrying the flag and still have your support weapon slot free.
My conclusion is that the value of the flag, besides its patriotic value, lies in its ability to attract the attention of enemies, and not in its capabilities as a melee weapon. In that context, I prefer to at least have my one-handed weapon available to defend myself while waving the colors of Super Earth.
Besides, guys, it would look incredibly cool, wouldn't it?
Some of us simply want to go into battle using our saber and Senator for the challenge or roleplaying purposes. I don't think this will affect the balance at all.
I know many will come to this post just to say this is absolutely unnecessary. That it's more important to focus on other things. That Helldivers isn't that kind of game. I'm even sure some will say the current system is fine, it doesn't need changes, and they'll just tell me I have skill issues.
But what can I say? As a fan of facing my enemies up close and personal, I find the current system too simplistic, clunky, and most importantly, absolutely not fun or rewarding.
I know there are limits to what one can expect from developers and that there are priorities, but every time I see our melee weapon arsenal gathering dust or being relegated to pure roleplay, I feel like the game is wasting enormous potential for fun.
I'm not asking for anything too complex with dodge or parry systems. I simply wish the melee combat animations weren't so slow and graceless, like they're just waving a fly swatter around. I'm asking for better-chained attacks, strikes with greater range that prevent enemies from hitting us, and attacks that cover a larger area to avoid being surrounded too easily. An option to roll instead of diving wouldn't be bad either.
Perhaps it's asking too much, but I at least wish the developers would start taking melee combat more seriously, as a serious combat mechanic to be considered, and not as something secondary just for role-playing or to intentionally make the game harder.
For better context:
The Eagle Gas Strike functions very similarly to the Napalm Strike and has the same number of uses.
The Orbital Gas Barrage functions similarly to the 380mm barrage, but with a slightly smaller radius, a slightly longer time between salvos, and a greater number of salvos.
Personally, I prefer the Orbital Gas Barrage, as it would function as a more offensive form of gas mines, without being hindered by terrain, without the risk of being destroyed before the mines are deployed, and also retaining some demolition power that could destroy structures.
Furthermore, I believe that the Eagle Gas Strike would completely render the Orbital Gas Strike ineffective due to its greater number of consecutive uses.
As the image shows, I can think of two possible options for this stratagem.
The first is simply having a selectable stratagem that allows us to periodically request SEAF reinforcements.
The second would be a mission stratagem, shared with the rest of the Helldivers, and available on planets with a SEAF presence or where the DSS is located. It could also have limited uses.
Which option would you prefer?
"In Warhammer 40,000, a Kasrkin power backpack is a back-mounted generator unit worn by Cadian elite shock troops. It feeds high-energy power cables directly into their hot-shot lasguns (or hellguns), providing the intense charge needed for armor-piercing laser fire."
