Gameplay From My WIP Game - Black Hollow!

I would love some input on this gameplay. I used Codex to help implement the rag dolling effects as well as fine-tuning certain projectile scripts and impact effects. It has been super helpful in troubleshooting errors and helping me track down error lines of code.

It is a fantasy roguelite FPS where you play as Aldren, a plague doctor trying to survive outside a remote farmstead after the nearby town of Black Hollow has fallen to infection.

Feel free to try yourself. - Demo on Itch.io

My First Project - Black Hollow - Prototype/Early Demo Is Available on Itch.io!

Hey everyone, I just released a playable demo for my game Black Hollow on itch.io.

It’s a dark fantasy roguelite FPS where you play as a plague doctor trying to survive waves of infected villagers outside a remote farmstead. You gather plague ichor from enemies, power an ancient runestone, and use it to unlock upgrades between bell tolls.

This is still early, but the core loop is there and I’d really appreciate anyone willing to try it out and give honest feedback. I’m especially looking for thoughts on the combat feel, atmosphere, pacing, and whether the upgrade loop feels interesting.

AI DISCLOSURE: AI was used in the implementation of some coding, UI overlays, and sound effects. I am fully transparent about the usage, please ask me any clarifying information and I am more than happy to provide clarification!

Thanks to anyone who checks it out. It genuinely helps a lot.

Here are links to the game, a brief gameplay video, and a discord related to it.

First Time Indie Dev - 2 Weeks In

Hey all!

Just wanted to share my experience.

A couple weeks ago I finally decided I was going to sit down and try to develop a game in Unity.

I have been able to compliment EVERY ASPECT with AI.

Coding struggles? - Codex

Imaging? ChatGPT

Audio? SUNO

Models? MESHY

Voiceover? ElevenLabs

To anyone who thinks it tAkEs tHe lIfE oUt oF iT, you couldn’t be more wrong.

It has allowed me, someone with 0 developmental skill for game development, to create a fully functional, First Person Medieval Low Fantasy RogueLite, in 2 weeks with a fantastic foundation and a fantastic amount of progress.

I can focus on the creative big picture aspects of the project. “Oh man a huge medieval lantern would look great here!” MESHY -> Model/Texture -> Unity”

“Oh I’d love to implement a mechanic that does XYZ” done in minutes, not hours or days.

Oh I’d love to add a candle flicker effect on it too. -> codex -> design a script for a candle flicker effect on a point light for a lantern”

The list goes on. I’m able to brain storm gaming ideas and IMMEDIATELY take action to complete them. No having to scour the internet for some resource free BS that sounds/looks mediocre.

It is allowing me to make weeks of progress in HOURS. I would never have been able to get over this hurdle alone. Dad with 2 young kids, working full time. I can sit down for an hour after work and get meaningful progress on the project instead of barely anything, which would be a huge motivation killer.

I’m beyond impressed with all of the utility AI has allowed me to do, and I’m pretty damn sure no one would know unless I told them.

Long story short, I LOVE AI. THE FUTURE IS NOW OLD MAN!

First VA Appointment After Receiving 100% P&T

I had my first VA healthcare appointment today, and I left with a lot of mixed emotions.

Sitting there and seeing other veterans who were very clearly worse off than me was humbling. It made me feel grateful, uncomfortable, and honestly a little guilty. I know I have my own issues, and I know they are real, but it is hard not to compare yourself when you see people carrying injuries and trauma that are so visible.

A lot of my rating comes from things that are not obvious from the outside. IBS, urinary issues, PTSD, and other things that affect my life every day, even if they are not always easy for other people to see. None of that takes away from what other veterans have been through, and it does not mean I am trying to act like my struggles are greater than theirs.

I think today just reminded me that every veteran carries something different. Some wounds are visible. Some are not. Some people are fighting battles that everyone can see, and others are trying to function through things that stay hidden.
