Do you play "casually"?

Curious

I got into fighting games since early summer and it's the only genre I touched now

I was on fightcade for awhile but after going through some tox intense games, started to realize the ranked route isn't for me anymore. Happy to just face local friends and go through arcade at the moment

My attempt to only play "fighting games"

Didn't work out as well as I wanted it to:

I was focused on playing street fighter 3 and I was genuinely enjoying it. Excuting the combos and getting quicker on my fingers

I even bought a proper arcade stick to play with

I think once I started going online and trying to play for rank is when I started to go down the rabbit hole and get sucked in.

That's all really. To be honest, this is probably the hardest genre I'm finding difficult to put down.

I've played games like Elden Ring in the past and there atleast an ending point but seeing your skills improve at a fighting game is really addicting.

I'm at a point now where I'm not ready to quit.

I'd atleast like to be able to enjoy the games offline and without playing online but am feeling very conflicted at the moment

I ordered an external numpad to use as a pad

My controller stopped working and started trying SF3 on a mechanical keyboard and it's been a huge game changer for me.

I don't want to fork out 100 or 200 on a hit box so dediced on an external numpad.

I plan on finessing it a bit, removing the unused keys and putting a cover on-top to make it look a bit more legit

Any suggestions for someone into soccer analytics/analyzing players?

As title suggests

My biggest addiction has and always will be Football Manager

I love the stats side too

During world cup I'd make my own predictions based on the players' per 90s (dribbling, pass completion)

So in turn, in draws me to FM.

What would you suggest for me to replace Football Manager?

Any other games that does "pro clubs"?

Title:

I don't really like Rematch. I know Goals is getting a 5v5 but I don't enjoy that game.

I really want a proper Pro Clubs Football game that has more emphasis on teamwork and has a good pace of game

I hate how everything is so damn fast in EA's game. There's no emphasis on tactics or coordination. Every Strat seems to be "through ball to fastest player"

Anyway. If anyone knows of any of games out there similiar let me know

Thoughts so far - has potential

It's okay. I still play it but it's really just "okay" for me

Mainly because there isn't anything out that I'd prefer to play

I'll start with the good:

- network play has been consistently good for me. I haven't had major lag issues or anything

- controls feel good to me. If you've played FIFA in the past you'll understand this game as well. I don't have problems with it

- I think the aging system's really idea cool. It treats like real life where you constantly have to be trying to rebuild your squad

- having unique players is also a super cool idea too. This is a big one I really like. It gives you a feeling that you aren't playing the exact same team as everyone else

The bad:

- it's arcadey: this is why I say the game is "okay". It's playable but I don't like the ping pong passing. I understand why the devs went in this direction. It's simple and easy to understand

- No variety in goals you score. I have not seen anything work other than finessing in the box and aiming for top left or top right. I have not ever seen one person score off of a long shot or even a cross header. Meaning, corners are better off if you just short pass it

- defending needs to be better: there needs to be some slow down when turning with the ball.

It's so unrealistic when your only best way to score is too probe dribble outside the box until you have an opening.

Ideas on how to improve:

- I think it's great that we have unique players. But it would be cool if each player had some sort of archetype. Destroyer, winger, poacher, false 9 etc

- a tad more emphasis on tactics would be nice and introduction to roles so I can fine tune my tactic

Unpopular opinion: most RPGs would be better with fewer clutter/stats/floating numbers and leaned more into weapon feel and playstyle.

I remember in the past when I watched my buddy talk about WoW when I was in highschool. The way he'd go on about it:

"So there's this game where you walk around in a living breathing world with millions of people around the world! you can explore these lands and fight monsters in these caves and there are so many weapons to try. You can be a warrior of sword and shield, or a ranger with a bow or a caster"

And at the time I didn't really know much about MMOs until I saw him play WoW and all I'm thinking is:

"ooh...cool... this is it?.. Wow you got a cool looking character. Show me how the combat plays out.

Oh... you got a lot of stuff on your screen, what's all that??? Oh your skills?? you got like 20+ you press them in a sequence of order to get the most damage output? So the bigger the number. The more damage you do.. oh ok cool.... So you can't just click your mouse to swing your weapon or press or press this to block? "

As I'm watching this guy play keyboard piano and watching numbers and a nightclub playout on his screen, I'm feeling baffled... like.. what? 15 bucks a month for this?
What exactly is even going on?

RPG stats are not new to me. I'm not going to act alien to it but this has been the norm throughout gaming industries existence. And I know the genre has improved this but it has always been something that I low-key did not enjoy about RPGs and MMOs.

When Guild Wars 2 came out, there was promise that the combat would be more action-oriented and it is. I thought it was fresh and a great shake up to the gameplay across MMOs but underneath all that, the game still runs on a stats system where you're forced to keep an eye on certain stats and numbers.

I love the idea of playing a large open world RPG or an MMO but the way the stats and numbers dictate everything you do just puts a bad taste in my mouth: I know it sounds absurd
"What do you mean the numbers, stats? Bro, that's how it is. How else would you know how much stronger you got?"

Look at a game like Dark Souls. While it still has a stats system, there is so much more on emphasis on weight . You want to use a wood club/naked your entire playthrough? not a problem. And you're not completely punished for it. You can skill your way through that game however you choose too. and I love that freedom.

The main issue with the current system, it takes you away from what is actually going on in the game. If I play a game like Guild Wars 2. I want my combat to feel like it has weight to it. I don't want to have to keep eye balling my hud to see what conditions I or my opponent has, I want to be able to focus my character swinging their great sword into my opponent's shield. I want the focus on my game to be more about the fun, the mix up in playstyles and skill expression. Not "who has the higher stats".

Thoughts?

As title says

So far, I have Pi4 + Batocera installed + Network Setup etc

Now, I want to strictly build a machine for just fighting games that emulate the exact same way arcades do (Insert coin, etc)

What's the best way to set this up?

I'm talking games from the 90s and up (Capcom, SNK)

I downloaded a ROM set for FBNeo. Do I just drag and drop all of those into roms/FBneo?
The subfolders are seperated as CPS1 2... NeoGeo.

I managed to get MVC2 working (Naomi) after downloading a few extra bios files

But does anyone have a one-time instructions for exactly what I want to do. Including theme?
