(Self Promotion) Red Mountain TTRPG (V5): Available on Itch.io

If you have ever played an OSR game, you would know that combat and exploration can often result in a beloved character's untimely demise at the hands of a pit of spikes or an armless goblin. Tactics for battles and combat rarely seem to help when the preferable answer is always to run away; oftentimes, combat doesn't grant EXP or anything useful.

I understand that the system that those games use can be difficult for a lot of players used to modern 5e. Going from 5e to something like B/X can be very difficult

Thus I am attempting to make a middle ground between modern and old TTRPG's: Red Mountain.

Red Mountain is an attempting at creating a game that can be equally split with Combat, Exploration, and Roleplay. Character classes have much more options for combat, as well as new explorational spells and abilities that can be used to defeat the aformentioned armless goblins or circumvent the pit of spikes, but without compromising the risk of being unprepared in exploration or combat.

Although it is certainly in development, I still need a community or a reader to give advice on what to add next while I'm still in the playtesting stage. I currently have a free document of the rules, a small cheat sheet, and a character sheet available for free to download on my Itch io page. I'd ask you to check it out, and give me some feedback on the current systems. It might looks ugly for now (I'm not quite a graphic designer!) but we'll get to the looks phase sooner when we have a finalized copy of the rules.

How to pace a 4-hour oneshot?

I'm running multiple 4-hour oneshots for a convention this year, and I'm wondering how other people can seemingly pace their oneshots. I've done a 2-hour oneshot before, and even that was a bit difficult to run (granted I didn't have any notes with me).

How do you pace your games? My plan so far is:

- Short introduction (at a tavern of course).

- Travel through a city in the middle of a festival to meet a contact.

- Help the contact not get murdered (he's a ragebaiter).

- Go with a contact to an island.

- Short puzzle to get into a black market.

- Exploration through the backrooms of the market (the dungeon part, no dragons though).

- Lengthy combat.

- Travel back to the city and obtain a reward?

Does this seem like too little? I'd rather have a game run for too long than run for too short, that'd be awkward.

Red Mountain - Release on Itch.io

Hello RPG'ers!

Today I was in the process of buying website hosting for my RPG game, but turns out, I have to wait a month to transfer the domain name! Shucklenuts!

To cope with this loss, I've published a free version of my (very shoddy, mind you it has no decals) TTRPG on Itch.io. I understand that the algorithm on that website is nothing to be scoffed at, however, so I though I'd try my luck here. I'm running a game of it soon, so I'd love to here if you think anything is broken, underpowered, or boring.

The full document actually does have lore (for classes, spells, religion, and abilities), but I'd like to here if the current system works before I work more on that.

Please ignore formatting or style issues! I am not a stylist, but I'm planning on hiring one when I'm finished with the documents :).

----------------------------------------------------------

Red Mountain is a simple mix between classic OSR games such as BXE and others, as well as modern RPG games such as pathfinder. It exists in a middle ground, with mechanics that include:

- D20 and D12 Saves and Checks.

- Unique and more difficult mechanics for both resting and spell slot regeneration.

- A custom injury table.

- Reaction and Morale Rolls for combat.

- Firearm! (Not plural!)

As well as some custom spells that I'm particularly proud of: Cure/Cause Disease, Glide, and Lightning Arrow (there's a longer list, but only spells from levels 1-3 are included in the free document).

You may notice that a lot of the spells are "dual" spells, such as Light/Darkness, Grow/Shrink, and Blindness/Deafness. This is to ease the limited spell slots for magic classes to make certain spells have more of a use.

----------------------------

If you have the time to check the document out and go over the mechanics, be my guest. And thank you! If you have any comments, it's very likely I'll take them to heart and edit the document as soon as I can.
