EC-0005 vs EC-0008 as a freshman?

Im an incoming freshman; i heard that the prof for ec0005 is really bad and prof for ec0008 is amazing (rate my professor confirms), but 0008 is full for the first semester ): Is it easy to get into 0008 in the spring, or is 0005 actually not that bad and I should just suck it up and take it first semester?

I would also really prefer 0008 because I want to go on a more conservation economics track :v

where have all the sardines gone 😞

i feel like tinned fish has gotten so popular recently that my go-to nearby markets are ALWAYS completely out of my fav sardines ive been eating for years :(

ive gone to my local costco, stopnshop, AND trader joes to buy groceries in the past month and every time i peek into the tinned fish section to get my fav season brand sardines theyre always completely sold out :(( i feel like just less than a year ago they were always available but now they are all gone ):

i think its great people have taken a liking to tinned fish!! i used to get made fun of in middle school for eating them lmao so this whole fish revolution has been great to see, but i do miss having reliable sardines as ye average consumer🐟

peter (pan) is the snail who never grew up

this is peter the 4 month old ramshorn (and the photobomber shrimp in the back is sherbert!) and I love him very much :) I've noticed that peter and all the other ramshorns in my tank REFUSE to grow more than ~3mm in length, even though I've had them for quite a while at this point and they definitely have more than enough algae to eat. They're seemingly very healthy and active despite how small they are though! I'm 99% sure they're regular ramshorns and not minis, so I guess they're just really really small.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen? I have a pretty small setup so I'm wondering if somehow its space-dependent? (though that wouldn't really make much sense...) Maybe they don't have enough calcium? Any recommendations to help them grow welcome :)

New shrimp not moving ):

(1st time shrimp owner) I got these little sunkist neos yesterday, and they were completely fine all day yesterday until I checked on them this morning ): theyre completely still compared to yesterday when they were calmly grazing and moving around. now theyre kinda just sitting in one spot ):

this is a really pretty well established tank, ive had it going for 9 weeks using the walstad method and i did a 40% water change the day before i introduced the shrimps because the tannin levels were getting a little high. i use a giant plastic jug of tap treated with seachem prime thats been sitting out for a while for water changes. i floated their bag for 30 mins and then pipetted tank water using a turkey baster into their acclimation container for around an hour while sucking out their store water.

i currently dont have any nit/ammonia test strips on me, but im just paranoid theres something wrong (i put in a tiny drop of seachem prime just in case) :( i read this might be a sign of low oxygen, which is possible since my walstad doesnt have must surface agitation happening and the tank is quite tall, but its also very heavily planted and i try to stir the water column multiple times per day. hoping this is normal for newly introduced shrimps?

fringed heartwort turning brown? ): help

i got some fringed heartwort (the little floaters) alongside my frogbit and they havent been doing too well ): I know they really dont like moisture on the topside of their fronds, but they dont seem to want to float very well either and keep submerging themselves ): is it a space issue?? Im facing a lot of leaf rot rn and am very sad bc I like them a lot!! theyre a species of liverwort and are a bit picky about their environment it seems

My tank is VERY small, very stagnant (which should be good for them?) and has high lighting!! Idk what to do for them bc google has given me super contradictory answers; they like ALL lighting types and also like low nutrient water and high nutrient water simultaneously ???? ):

would love some advice from someone who has also kept some!!

weird little brown squiggle things

these little brown squiggles popped up around my tank overnight, and i have no idea what they are ): theyre mainly sticking around the roots of my floaters and they definitely werent there yesterday. for context my tank is unstocked except for a few hitchhiker baby ramshorns!

I was thinking either snail poop or dead detritus worms?? No idea what else it could be. theyre extremely tiny and range in size from ~3 mm to just a dot

hopecore!!! art renaissance in a post-ai apocalypse

ngl, a few weeks ago I felt really goddamn hopeless about the rapid insurgence of ai taking over literally goddamn everything (especially the creative industry) and i really didnt believe it when I heard ppl talk about how the "bubble would burst eventually" or how there would be a "post ai creativity renaissance."

Big ai seems so fucking unstoppable and the government seems to not give a shit about regulating it :/ i truly was convinced that the future was completely screwed for artists UNTIL THE PAST MONTH!!

after seeing all these new indie directors and their absolutely beautiful movies hitting it off (obsession, backrooms, iron lung, project hail mary, etc) ive started to regain a sliver of hope :,) the indie animation community is absolutely thriving right now as well, and the massive public outcry against the establishment of data center plans have really started to push the envelope for a future against ai. in a sea of rancid, steaming, disgusting slop, art still manages to writhe through, and im so happy people still value human creativity and actual skill! now we just need to tear apart a few data centers with our bare hands.... jk (or not?)

I know a few movies and isolated wins isnt really much in the face of it all, but ive been feeling a bit better recently :)) PEOPLE WILL WIN!!!! CREATIVES ARE SO FUCKING COOL!!!!! SUPPORT UR LOCAL ARTISTS AND INDIE MOVEMENTS!!!! HIT THE DAMN THEATERS!!!! FUCK STREAMING AND BIG BUSINESS

1st tank :))

~2 weeks 0.7 gallon with some pearlweed!! ik its tiny but im only planning on having like a snail and two shrimp in here :D

the water has been turning a very slight yellowish tinge, and im assuming its because of the tannins leaking out of the soil i used;; hopefully not the beginnings of some kind of algae bloom haha...

its been doing fairly well, was wondering if adding shrimp now is a good idea?

sooo... i'm in a tiny bit of a pickle rn

i got accepted into a school that I was really looking foward to going to, but its genuinely only twenty minutes away from my home, and my parents are absolutely freaking insane and I think i'm genuinely going to end up in a psych ward if I don't get away from them. I also got WAY less financial aid than I thought, and have to pay 95k per year if I want to attend. It kind of hit me very recently that i'm emotionally, mentally, and financially COOKED if I go to this school, but i'm technically already committed to said school and have to attend in the fall due to an ED agreement. Its also way too late to apply to another school atp, and I rescinded all my offers from other schools like an absolute dumbass.

Another big problem is that my parents' willingness to help me pay is extremely variable. One day, they're saying its "fine" and the next day they're threatening to pull out all financial help. I feel awful for attending a school with such a heavy price tag, but during applications my parents had encouraged me to not worry about price and simply look at schools with programs that aligned well with the major I was pursuing. After I got in, they completely switched up (which I should have seen coming tbh) and they're currently seriously debating making me take on 400k+ loans by myself, which I am obviously not going to do.

I'm thinking of transferring to Temple University in my sophomore year there are MANY pros:

- My best friend goes there (and I really value having a support system!!)

- Its cheaper (around 40-50k)

- They give significant merit aid, and I have good stats (4.45 gpa, 1520 SAT, NHS, lots of ECs and volunteer experience, etc)

- Its farther from home

- I'll be in a city i'm relatively familiar with and on the East Coast, which i want to stay on

- They have good programs for my intended major

The only caveat is that it is significantly less prestigious than the one i'd be transferring from, and I'm wondering if its worth it. For context, I'm transferring from a national top 30 "baby ivy" uni. In all honesty, I don't care a single bit about prestige, but my parents will freak, and I am a little nervous since I know I will absolutely still have to go into significant debt if I attend and I want to be able to get a stable job.

And no, I absolutely cannot just "suck it up" and stay at my current school. I genuinely do not know if I can mentally take my parents and it is getting to a point that I am thinking of becoming estranged from them. Combined with the money issues, I absolutely cannot stay.

What the hell do I do??? Anyone in a similar boat? ):
