Real People in Fallen London [spoilers]

A lot of characters in Fallen London are clearly inspired by aspects of real (and fictional) people, but some go further and are straight-up alt-history versions of that person.

I've got a bit of a list in my head from memory, but also interested in any I've missed (and to learn some history).

Spoilers abound, obviously.

Literary Connections

I've noticed a couple of congruences between novels I've read and Fallen London, but it seems unlikely that there's a direct connection. Instead I'm wondering whether there are some shared antecedents for them that I'm not aware of, or is it really just coincidence?

Jeff Noon's Vurt

The titular "Vurt" is a realm of possibilities constructed from dreams, but containing a malicious race of snakelike creatures that seek to make exchanges to escape into the real world. Most people's experience with is is via curated entertainment experiences sold by expert guides.

Philip Pullman's The Book of Dust

A particular attar of roses has unusual perceptual properties that can allow you to see into parallel worlds. Its source is heavily guarded in the depths of a desert by an ancient North African people.

Edit

There seems to be some confusion. I am asking specifically about these two themes and where they came from. Not for a general list of every reference in Fallen London.

Flute Street or Theological Husbandry?

I decided to throw some money Failbetter's way this Estival and bought an extra BIS item I liked the flavour of.

I now find myself with 20 Fate, and am considering the Premium Stories list rather than trickling it out on single storylets or saving for future festival fate-locked items.

For context, I'm well into the endgame, with maxed stats other than Shadowy and Discordance, highly renowned with Hell, Bohemians, and Society; and chummy in general with everyone other than the Liberation, Fires, and Stones. I've got London's Blood, but haven't started the grind for full Paramount yet. Nor am I planning to grind Cider, Hellworm, or Golden Carapace any time soon.

So anyway, the only two I can afford are Flute Street (for 10F, so with a little to spare on e.g. a future Ubergoat or something) or Theological Husbandry (for 20F).

Thoughts and/or recommendations?

failed to submit scheduled post

Our monthly scheduled post stopped working a few months ago now. I've tried tweaking it but no luck.

Nobody responds to the admin message about it, which provides literally no information about why it failed.

This post also failed to submit and I had to manually inspect the POST response to find out why because nothing happened in the frontend. As far as I can tell I have to add the word Desktop or similar 🤞

What's up with the Solicitor-Baroness?

Spoilers for late Railway and Hell is Missing.

I'd only just started playing when I originally did Hell is Missing, so she never registered as anyone significant, but now I've done it again after finishing the railway I am confused.

I thought, being a Baroness, she was part of the old order - a minor Saint of some sort. That the only reason she's walking free (and not in a full human suit) is because the Creditor has her on retainer as part of some deal the Devils did when they first arrived and built the White City on it.

So why is she still working for Hell and in charge of cleaning up the Annulus?
