We're five Sidemen Sundays into them as a six-piece, how're you finding the boys without JJ at this stage?

Should I include Tour tracks?

I want to make a YouTube series where I compare multiple versions of the same Mario Kart track to determine which game did that track the best. Should I include the tour versions of these tracks in my discussions?

UK fans: what would change if Eurovision was broadcast and handled by ITV or C4?

First of all, they wouldn’t be able to show the funny interactions between performances as the space would used for adverts.

I think there’d be a HUGE rise in younger fans if it was broadcast on C4 as that channel prides itself on being free and easily accessible online.

I also think we’d get a proper national final. Maybe a one-night show similar to UMK.

I forgot how absolutely hysterical the docks scene in Thomas Percy and the Squeak is.

I rewatched this episode recently, specifically the UK dub, and this scene gets nowhere near enough praise for how genuinely funny it is. There are five moments within this one minute scene that got genuine laughs out of me. Ms Botti’s screaming face. The windows breaking. Gordon’s perfect callback to earlier in the episode. Angelis’s brilliantly OTT voice for Alicia. And of course “Peasant” “Yes, I am pleasant!”

This sequence is an absolute comedy riot that deserves way more recognition than it gets

Who is each Irish city's signature musician?

Here in the UK, a lot of our cities are so heavily associated with specific musical artists, hailing from those cities. This is especially the case if that city isn’t London. Some examples include:

Birmingham - Black Sabbath

Liverpool - The Beatles

Manchester - Oasis

Edingburgh - The Proclaimers

Oxford - Radiohead

Sheffield - Arctic Monkeys

Glasgow - Lewis Capaldi

Leeds - Kaiser Chiefs

I'm curious as to who the equivalents are for Ireland’s major cities? I’m familiar with some Irish musicians - U2, Cranberries, Hozier, etc., but I’m not sure of their strong ties to specific locations.

Do you buy into the 'UK 0 points streak' meme?

A friend and I (both British) were discussing the UK at Eurovision. Neither of us agrees on the "Europe hates us" mentality, and I think the way the continent has ultimately responded to LMNC as a person this year proves that.

Our last three entries have been better than ANYTHING we put out in the 2010s, and yet all of them have got nothing from the public when they absolutely deserved something. And we were starting to wonder whether people were intentionally not voting just to see the '0 points' streak continue?

Again, I cannot stress enough: this is not another "Europe hates us" mentality; we just think ulterior motives are afoot.

What are your thoughts on the 'Icarus' sub-category?

All three of these acts were somewhere in the top 2 of the odds LONG before their respective contests took place, and ended up not even finishing in the top three. They all seemed to get a bit too overconfident in their chances, and their staging and pre-contest attitudes seemed to reflect this, only for none of them to emerge victorious. This is why they're in the 'Icarus' sub-category.

It felt especially bad in Akylas' case, who was very obviously trying to squeeze himself into the Käärijä, Joost, Tommy Cash demographic. This isn't trying a slight on him or the delegation, but Greece's staging and Akylas' attitude seemed like they'd already won before even performing.

KAJ as well were so high in the odds that they started talking about what would happen when Sweden (them) would win and how it'd be in Finland, but the Swedes would pay for it as revenge for 2023.

All three of these acts' marketing was them being HEAVY favourites only for that not to play out at all on the night.

I hate being single, and I hate dickheads

At my place of work, I (24M) offered to take a large group photo of some guests. When I handed the phone back to the woman who'd given me her phone, who was late 20s to early 30s, she asked me how many I'd taken. I said four or five, which was true. She said, "That's not enough, you need to take more. Do you have a girlfriend?" Now I knew she'd asked me that question under the guise that if I did have a girlfriend, I'd be expected to be her personal photographer and take upwards of a hundred photos of her at one time (I know I'm stereotyping/exaggerating a bit). But I gave the honest answer, which was "no, I don't have a girlfriend". And she said, "That's not good enough, you need to try harder", before proceeding to grab my arm quite hard, as if forcing me to stay and take more photos. I stepped back quickly and basically snapped, saying do not touch me, especially like that. The leader of her group spent about five minutes apologising to me after that, but still, the entitlement of some people to just physically grab you, insult your relationship status and not cut you any slack when you volunteer to do something for them. Also, I'm the only single person I know, which made it sting even more.

As a Brit, I’d rather we send a different type of song every year and get nothing than consistently finish in the top 10 by sending only ‘Space Man’ clones

Three 0 point in a row definitely hurts, but if it means the BBC rethink their strategies and send something different again, even if it doesn’t click with the rest of the contest, so be it. This country has such a diverse music scene and if there’s anything the BBC have done right this decade it’s show off different types of artists from different backgrounds

A ‘Space Man’-type song being all that will get us any points at all is a reality I can accept. I feel like a similar case can be made for Australia, as its two highest scorers are both in a similar demographic to each other.

There are two things I will not accept though:

  1. Vicious hatred towards any of our representatives. This has been a thing since the British public’s perception of the contest has dipped. And it’s dipped even further in the post 2023 Eurovision era. The way the British artists have spoken about their time in the contest and their own defeatist attitudes breaks my heart. We British are a very pessimistic lot in general but I cannot stand the attacks that artists are still getting even after the contest

  2. No one’s career deserves to die because of a bad Eurovision result like so many UK reps have. Mae and Olly haven’t really been anywhere. RM are getting booked to do very small gigs and TV appearances. I really want to see what Look Mum No Computer does next, and I’m hoping the result doesn’t put off others from working with him

Finally, I don’t buy the “Europe Hates Us” mentality, but there might be a sliver of truth in the UK 0 points streak becoming a meme
