No growth or contam?

I prepared the brown rice according to broke boi tek, it was moist enough to bite a grain in half, but not mushy. I would describe the texture as rubbery both then and now. Then I added it to a narrow mouth quart ball jar with a rubber gasket, silicone injection port, and 1/4 inch air exchange hole. The only unusual part about the jar is that the lid is all one piece rather than a separate ring. I covered the lid in foil using a rubber band, and used fractional sterilization (I have a PC but I am terrified of pressurized steam after getting burned, so I just use a regular lid). 3 days of boiling for 30-90 minutes each day. This worked back when I was using smaller jars.

Next, I injected 1.5 ml of liquid culture and stored it in a closet for several weeks, where temperature varies between 70-80 degrees. I was expecting to see growth or contam, but neither is visibly present. Please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Here are my initial ideas.

  1. grain dried out during sterilization. The combination of micropore + foil + being in a steaming pot should have kept the water in - there was visible condensation in the jar when I pulled it out of the pot. However I also live in a very dry climate. Right now the grains at the top jostle around like gravel, but many of them still stick to the sides or each other. But it's definitely not as moist as refrigerated sticky rice.

  2. Not enough lc. Do I need to be injecting a larger culture? This stuff has been in the fridge for up to a year. Maybe it's dead? I'm thinking about using agar plates to figure out if the LC is still viable.

I have tried this process twice, once with a jack frost LC and once with p nats LC. My previous attempt with cup sized jars worked good.

New shrub technique just dropped

I found a technique to build a rounded shrub using parts from the PAB wall, based on the snowflake. I wish I had gotten more of these leaf parts now! I thought they would be useless and added mostly classic leaves instead.

[Android] option to download GIFs not appearing - 2026.25.0.2625130

As shown in the video, the "download" option doesn't appear in the three dots menu for gif content. I can still download videos however. The menu item needs to be re-added.

If you are running into this issue, copy the post link and paste it into your browser, then change reddit.com to old.reddit.com, where you can download the gif.

Escaping the key shop scam.

They act like they are the only ones smart enough to use a card copier, and they just have to remind you how smart they are every time you lose your card. If you lie to try and get extra cards, they even remotely disable the old card somehow. Seems like a huge cyber security flaw. What if hackers locked me out of my lab to stop me from fixing the dhcp? Those card monkeys probably don't even use a password manager, they're lucky to be behind 2 NATs or else they would absolutely get hacked. Physical locks are just an excuse for normies to larp as security professionals. Little do they know it's our zero trust network architectures that actually keep them safe.

Anyway, I bought a USB magnetic stripper and a bunch of blank cards. Now I never lock myself out of the lab because I have copies around the office. I also make copies of my coworkers cards in case I need to get into the supply closet. I haven't had to go to the key shop in years, and I don't have to wait for the custodians to replace the paper towels anymore.

We should really decentralize the swipe card system and just use personal backups. Imagine if somebody got into the safe with the originals of everybody's cards. They could access any room. No one man should have all that power

Yoshino is my first heavy cruiser, and I'm not sure how to survive as a cruiser with poor maneuverability. Unlike wooster, I can't seem to find enough concealment to break off engagements in order to heal. If I play in open waters, I'll get spotted and focused by the whole flank. If I play island, I can single out targets and stay angled, but I don't have hydro or fast acceleration, so I usually end up eating torps from an unspotted enemy. Do I just need to play behind BBs and stay unspotted until the enemies spread out, or is there anything I can contribute to the game during the first 3 minutes that doesn't get me killed?
