I'm trying to get through the 2nd half of the 2nd season anime ep 16 onwards, but it feels like a significant change of format, and from what I've read it appears this continues in the upcoming light novels. Does the series go back to these small arcs likening season 1 and the first half of season 2, or is it just big political arcs from now on?

I'm in season one and a little confused. The soldier dude wants to buy out Pairin, but maomao mentions if she likes him he won't need 10000 silver, but isn't the price set by the Brothel? And also, do they get a say in who buys them? It seems like from dialogue they get a say, but then sometimes it flipflops and talks about bidding wars and how they don't want to go to a particular buyer? Like with meimei?
