How to become "well-read"?

I'm an avid reader, but I'm mostly into fantasy/fiction. Lately, I've wanted to learn more about the real world… our history, politics, economics.

It feels like our world is in shambles.

Every day I read a new headline but I am tired of being ignorant and misled. I want to think more critically and form informed opinions.

What books would you recommend to someone like me? I’m looking for suggestions with the most accurate and unbiased information as possible.

Edit: A lot of y’all are recommending newspaper. please suggest books too <3

Mid Year Wrap Up With Short Reviews

One of my reading resolution for this year was to explore different genres and I think I am doing a good job so far.

Books I Loved:

1/ The Book of Lost Names
This is a story of women who started forging identity documents for Jewish children during WWII.
It was a fascinating perspective. The story was so emotional, especially loved how it ended.

2/ The Murder at World’s End
The book takes places in 1910 on a remote island. It’s also a closed door murder mystery.
My fav part was the characters.

3/ An Academic Affair
This is your typical academic rivals turned lovers story. It reminded me so much of Ali hazelwood’s earlier books (which I love so much). But even on its own, this was a fun read.

4/ Dungeon Crawler Carl
Earth is destroyed and the few people that survived are in this video game style dungeon where they have to fight monsters to survive different levels.
This was wayyyyy out of my comfort zone and I didn’t think I would be able to finish it. But I actually loved it. The story/setup is easy to understand and the characters (there’s a talking cat) are so well written you can’t help but get attached.

5/ Mistborn
I am late to the party becoz everyone already knows and loves this book so it doesn’t need more explanation. I am already on book 2.

Books I Wanted to Love But Didn’t:

1/ The Human Comedy
It’s a classic and I have heard so many people love and recommend it… But I didn’t even get the plot enough to give a summary.

2/ This Time Tomorrow
Another popular book. It’s about time travel. A girl goes to sleep on her 40th birthday and wakes up as 16. The plot was interesting but it started feeling outlandish real quick.

3/ Great Big Beautiful Life
2 authors compete to write a biography of a popular women who disappeared from public eye after a big scandal. This is a half love story (between 2 authors) and half family drama (of the women). But both of those things were boring for me. The scandal that was made a big deal was also so not worth it.

Anxiety pills not working?

I finally found the courage to visit a psychiatrist, but she only gave me some medicines for anxiety. I told her I am going through severe depression she said that is treated by anxiety pills only.

I started with a pill of 5mg and didn’t feel any change when I told the doctor she increased the dose to 10mg and I still don’t feel any better.

disclaimer: it’s only been a month since I am seeing a doctor and I know this is a short time to judge something but I still need advice.

My questions:

1/ If any of you take such pills can you tell me what dosage actually worked for you? I just want to know if the doctor is giving me low dose becoz I am just starting out or is this the general standard?

2/ I also didn’t mention I feel suicidal becoz I felt insecure. And she also kinda dismissed the fact of depression saying it will all be covered in anxiety pills. Am I overthinking this and should I directly mention this to her?

3/ Since taking the pills I feel my libido has dropped. I am single so there’s accurate way to tell. I used to masturbate every now and then. But haven’t felt like doing it lately. I still tried once just to check and I couldn’t get an orgasm. is this normal? I am confused if this is related to the pills or just another symptom of my depression.

4/ Next step for me is going to psychologist/therapy. could you guys suggest someone good in delhi? (I made a similar post last month here asking for doctor suggestions but I deleted it quickly coz I felt overwhelmed, but some people gave suggestions to online doctors, I can’t do that. can you suggest someone I can meet offline?)

Recommendations for Bridal Journals

I want to journal my entire bridal journey. Like things to do, things to shop, inspiration collections and all sorts of things… The problem is all the bridal journals I find on Google have pre filled pages of checklists and stuff.

I want something with blank pages (so I can add my own stuff) but some wedding related designs on the cover page or on the margins. Do you guys have any suggestion?

I don’t have a budget constraint. Just suggest something that I can buy online in Delhi
