Ideally I’d like to keep as much of the existing build as possible. PPP seems to give it the all clear but I have my doubts. Also open to any thoughts on which option would be better for the GPU.

Today I was sat at a mountain restaurant, eating outside, with my family and my dog (mid-size Portuguese Water Dog). I’d made our dog’s leash quite short as there were some small kids riding carts around the area making him a bit nervous with the noise. I did this more for the other parents’ peace of mind, our dog can be a little nervous or bark about things like this but I’m not concerned about him reacting violently or similar. I had my back to the car park entrance but my wife mentioned another dog had entered, so I turned around and saw a small dog, no owner in sight, off the leash beelining to our table and specifically our dog.

I could immediately tell something was going to go down, seeing the dogs approach and knowing my dog was on too short a leash to properly conduct himself. The dogs (both males) sniff each other, I’m directly over them as my dog is leashed at the end of the bench where I’m sitting. I can see the vibes are off and the little dog tries to mount my dog’s head to idk assert dominance or whatever. My dog growls at this and the small dog responds by going into attack mode, which is now happening at my ankles and moving under the table/towards the bench where my wife and kids are sitting.

Typically I would not insert my physical self into a situation like this but seeing them head towards my ankles and especially my kids I felt I had to intervene and the small dog was wearing a harness so I picked him up by the harness and carried him away. In the process of reaching I got a superficial bite from the small dog (no stitches etc, A&E for a tetanus booster).

Looking back on the events I wonder if there is something I could have done when I immediately saw it was going to go badly. Open to advice, TIA

As an expat (and weirdly over-invested psycho?) that uses this sub to enjoy a vicarious meal deal the extra context would be greatly appreciated.
