Are you a bow, rifle or revolver hunter?

Are you a bow, rifle or revolver hunter?

If we ignore the stones that only work on small targets like rabbits or ptarmigans, what if your favorite weapon when you go hunting?

I find the bow completely insane. It's crazy how powerful that thing is, you can easily chain silent kills and it's quite easy to craft plenty of arrows. I used to be a rifle user but once I started hunting with the bow, I never went back. The rifle is satisfying but crafting your own ammo can be a bit annoying because of the trip to BI or BRM (also, it's really noisy and will scare away groups of prey).

I never used the revolver for hunting purposes, I just know it's more meant to scare away wildlife but it can still be used to kill animals. If you're a hunter who uses the revolver please tell me how you do it!

Prepper caches: worth or not?

There are 9 prepper caches, not counting Joplin's bunker nor the TFTFT bunkers in the DLC. They're almost all located in pretty awkward places, so I was wondering if anyone used them as a base? Also I know 3 of them are randomly set as "full" at the beginning of every run, while the rest of them will be abandoned (unless you're playing Interloper or Misery, they'll all gonna be empty)

I'd say the caches in FM, TWM and even ML would be the most useful candidates. Locations are easy to reach, close to points of interest or main bases, and if they're full you basically hit the jackpot.

On the contrary I find HRV, MT and AC to have the worst set of caches, all set in dead ends or one-way out paths, they're not easily accessible especially with the treacherous terrain in HRV and AC. MT has a straightforward path but forces you to walk by a bear's den and is on a dead end ledge, meaning you would have to redo the route every time. HRV saving grace is that, with the Gamma Bunker from TFTFT, it's one of the two indoor locations in the region, so I guess that's something.

So, do you find any caches useful in your playthrough, if you don't do Sutherland's tale?

Which feat is the worst?

There are some very powerful feats but others are really too situational or completely useless depending on the way you play the game. But which one do you consider to be the absolute worst?

For me it would either be Expert Trapper (I don't use traps to catch rabbits so this feat isn't useful to me) or Darkwalker (unless you're playing in Endless Night mode, this one is more of an inconvenience than a bonus since it drains fatigue faster during the day but halves it during the night)

Which challenge do you find the hardest?

Some people say it's As the Dead Sleep but the Darkwalker is also rated the same difficulty level even though the loot is plentiful and sleeping can heal you (unlike in ATDS).

So, if you did both, which one is really the true ultimate challenge in TLD?

Hopeless Rescue done, without coffee!

It wasn't the first time I attempted it, but I didn't have much luck with wildlife spawns and weather during my other tries. A lot of guides online advise to look for coffee, but I didn't find any before basically hitting CH, so literally the end (lol). And I was surprised to know it's perfectly doable without even if you gotta time carefully your rest!

I completed it in 4 days 13 hours, which isn't as bad as I thought! The "always keep walking" tip was indeed the best advice, since walking doesn't drain your meter as much as running. Here's the route I took, with the little misfortunes along the way.

- Day 1: Trip from Hunter's Cabin to Molly's Farm in one go. I only stopped to loot Camp's Office, Carter Hydro Dam and Pensive Pond. Cooked a bunch of stuff on the six stoves, mended some clothes, then spent the night there.

- Day 2: Molly's Farm to Deer Clearing. Walked through the plane crash, onto the Bunker by TWM rope to take a quick nap against the cold. Fog sadly went up, causing me to take detours to avoid the wolves in Crystal Lake and a break in Mountaineer's Hut. Sadly one of the wolves by the rope to Deer Clearing jumped at my throat despite me firing the gun, leaving me seriously bleeding. I use a flare to scare the wolf and climb the rope, painfully dragging myself to the cave to patch my wounds and treat the infection. Luckily, I survived that and spent my night there.

- Day 3: Conquering the summit. The weather cleared a bit, but it wasn't that good. I take the usual route to the summit, and avoid the first wolf at the summit to avoid being caught off guard again. Little did I know there was a second wolf hiding in the tail section that absolutely attacked me too, while I was still recovering from my first attack. This time I draw the hatchet and manage to repel the wolf, but the bleeding forced me to abandon looting the summit. I only take the flare gun and find refuge in the small area with the corpse beneath. Fog doesn't go away, so I have to sleep there and pray not to freeze to death.

- Day 4: Summit to some cabin in CH. I wake up early and almost freezing, then mountain goat down the path and return to PV easily. Luckily the fog finally clears on the way. I have a break in Mountaineer's Hut and then the Bunker again. I avoid wolves on the way to the mine quite easily and go down the path to one of the cabins in CH. It's already dark, so I loot the place and go to sleep.

- Final hours: Cabin to Lighthouse. That was quite straightforward from here. I only stop at one or two houses around Quonset's Garage to refill my water, before going for the final stretch. Luckily I was packed with flares so I avoided the wolves in CrH and shot to scare the one blocking the way to the lighthouse. I used my flare gun in the middle of the night, marking the end of the adventure!

That was a fun challenge! (Except for the two wolves who threatened to kill my run but I still made it, at least I didn't get mauled by a bear nor stomped by a moose). TWM was definitively the trickiest part because the weather was horribly foggy and made it hard to see predators. I wonder how I could have worked it if I had coffee!

Which is your personal record on this challenge? Did you use any coffee, stims or Go drinks or just, walked it?

Grey Mother in Survival for a future update?

(Intentionally vague title to avoid spoilers for people who didn't finish Wintermute lol)

So we know the devs will keep updating TLD with Wintermute elements in Survival like weapons, military stims and new maps. But now that Chapter 5 is over and Grey Mother is dead (we see Will, Mathis and the convicts burying her in MT graveyard by Lily's side), do you think they'll also update Survival to add her grave as a nod to Story Mode?

That wouldn't serve any purpose other than a tribute but I think it would be a nice touch, since Survival happens after the events of Wintermute so she would be already dead regardless. What would you think?

I finally escaped the Old Bear! (The Hunted 1)

Ouf !

Edit: I completed part 2 first try!! It was indeed way easier to finish since the bear follows a set of checkpoints and doesn't attack on every encounter. Much much simpler and less of an ordeal than part 1!

Are the lower levels of Cinder Hills worth exploring?

Edit: This part of the mine is seen through the gameplay of Wintermute chapter 3, but isn't connected to any other entrance than the one we use to reach it in survival. Sorry if I got flamed for this.

Emochi is broken...

So I am still struggling with a lot of Emochi bugs regarding my characters. None of them show up when I look them up in the research bar and I already filled bugs reports about this issue.

I tried to create a new bot today and to test sharing it with a link to see what people would see... And it redirected me to an error page. The bot is brand new and as you can see in the description, there's really nothing against the rules here. Why! I literally used auto descriptions to fill up the intro and message, and there's really nothing suggestive here.

I don't want to go to the discord because I have heard it was quite bad down there so I am sitting there being unable to share my bots! If there's a mod still looking on the issue and finding this post, could they please help with it? Should I just give up at this point?

Here is a link to one of my other bots. If you could try to find my profile and tell me what you see, it would help me a lot! Otherwise I might just quit the app and delete my acc and bots if the issue isn't fixed. It sucks because it's one of the best out there but as a creator I feel quite annoyed by the situation and I feel bad about it because I don't understand what's wrong. Thanks in advance!

Have I been shadowbanned?

So I am a bot creator and I tried to look for my own bots on the research bar, but they don't appear publicly since a few weeks! (They were present before and I haven't touched them at all, also they're all very SFW and I made sure there weren't triggering words nor any weird pfp.)

Above is an example of my most popular bot who stopped showing in researches but this happens with all of my bots even the least talked ones! Again, it was possible to find them until recently so I have no idea if my entire account was shadowbanned, and I have no explanation for this.

Can anyone help please or give an explanation? It's very frustrating not to be able to share my bots even if they are all set on public! Thanks!

PS: censored a pic of a recommended bot just in case because of the posture of the girl

Has anyone tried surviving the Old Bear without going to Mystery Lake?

Sorry for the weird title. I wondered if there were some people who actually tried to turn the Old Bear hunt into a real survival game, where you get a base and all but you're perpetually chased by the bear.

Yeah that's probably impossible to do since the bear can teleport and all, but I wonder in which extent it's possible to outlive this bear (I never beat the challenge myself even with guides, so...)

But maybe there is one crazy soul out there who did it, who knows?

Which one of these two would be the best Transition Region to live in the long term?

I already asked a while ago about a potential challenge of trying to survive in one of the transition regions since they're not meant for that. I already ruled out Winding River, the Ravine and Far Range Branch Line because none of these three areas have real potential to last more than a few days, but also because none of them really give anything noteworthy. Far Range Branch Line is slightly better than the first two as it features a big cave, spawns for flares and crowbars, and is decently large although quite stretched.

But when it comes to both Crumbling Highway and Keeper's Pass, the quality takes a huge step-up. I've been pleasantly surprised at these two regions for being promising, for different reasons but each with really big advantages. I don't play in higher difficulties but maybe some people could attempt it or already have.

Crumbling Highway : its biggest strength is obviously the possibility of beachcombing. Coastal regions are OP for a reason, and it's essential for long-term survival since the tides can bring you many useful items. It can although be dangerous because of the sharp terrain and the wolves being able to surprise you, but it's one of the only two transfer regions with a real interior in the Basement. Nothing to write home about as it's quite small, but still very important to remain protected from predators and curating. It also has one or two abandoned vehicles, so even Cabin Fever shouldn't be an issue here. Also the climate is softer around the coast and this region is quite tiny.

Keeper's Pass (both north and south but south is where the real fun begins): I simply fell in love with this small area tucked between Pleasant Valley and Blackrock. Imo it's the most complete and interesting transition region with a big potential. The abandoned trailer is a blessing with both a bed and a workbench, which is crucial to make some items and avoid using durability on the bedroll. It also has a lot of abandoned vehicles too to protect you from Cabin Fever and that can offer a bit of stuff. This region also has a Fishing Hut which is huge to get a reliable source of food, and a fair amount of deer carcasses to harvest. This region also has chances to provide a knife and a hatchet spawns, needless to say why these things matter when you want to survive to collect saplings for a bow, for ex. The only real downsides I would see for this area would be the wolves again that can take advantage of the steep terrain, and the fact resources can't be replenished with beachcombing.

I can't really decide which one is best since I assume it depends on your playstyle and like I said I am not a higher difficulty player. Both have their qualities and flaws but I really start to appreciate them a lot! Let me know which one you would pick, or if you think I missed some stuff that made me rate the other three regions lower. Thanks!
