I’m trying to choose an EV that I can keep for several years and use both for normal city driving and frequent long-distance trips around Europe.
My shortlist has somehow grown to this:
Mercedes
CLA EV
New GLC EV
Electric C-Class
Electric GLA
EQE sedan
EQE SUV
BMW
New iX3
i5
New/upcoming i3 sedan
2020 i3 120Ah as a cheap wildcard
Others
Tesla Model Y
Xiaomi YU7
What I care about most:
Real highway range at roughly 120–140 km/h
Charging speed and especially the charging curve
Comfort over 500+ km days
Low cabin noise
Reasonable dimensions for city use
Interior quality
Rear passenger + luggage space
Reliability
Software/navigation/route planning
Depreciation and overall value
At the moment I see them roughly like this:
BMW iX3: probably the strongest all-round technical package.
Mercedes CLA: efficiency/range monster, but potentially a little small.
Mercedes GLC EV: excellent family/all-round package but relatively large and expensive.
EQE / EQE SUV: massive used depreciation makes them very tempting.
BMW i5: great long-distance sedan and also much more attractive used than new.
New BMW i3 / electric C-Class: potentially ideal size, but newer and less proven.
Tesla Model Y: probably the rational/value choice, although I’m not sure the refinement matches BMW/Mercedes.
Xiaomi YU7: insane specs/value, but service, warranty, software and parts availability in Europe concern me.
Old BMW i3 120Ah: totally different proposition, but ridiculously cheap, light and great in the city. Obviously much worse for long-distance use.
If this was going to be your only car, what would you eliminate first and what would your top 3 be?
I’m much more interested in ownership experience than brochure numbers, especially real 130 km/h range and the annoying little things you only discover after a few months.

I’m much more interested in ownership experience than brochure numbers, especially real 130 km/h range and the annoying little things you only discover after a few months.
I’m looking for an EV that can handle both daily/city use and frequent long-distance travel, and Mercedes currently has way too many models that interest me.
My shortlist is:
CLA EV
New electric GLC
New/upcoming electric C-Class
New/upcoming electric GLA
EQE sedan
EQE SUV
I’m trying to work out where the actual sweet spot is rather than simply buying the newest or most expensive one.
The CLA looks ridiculously efficient and has very impressive range/charging on paper, but I’m worried it might feel too small or compromised for long trips.
The new GLC EV seems like one of the strongest all-round packages, especially for space and long-distance use.
The electric C-Class might end up being the ideal middle ground because I generally prefer lower cars to SUVs.
The GLA EV interests me because it should be easier to live with in the city.
Then there are the EQE and EQE SUV, which can already be found used for dramatically less money than their original prices. They’re older EV technology, but potentially much more car for the money.
Things I care about most:
Real range at 120–140 km/h
Real charging curve / 10–80%, not peak kW
Ride comfort
Cabin noise
Seats on long journeys
Interior quality
Rear-seat/trunk practicality
Width and ease of city use
Reliability/software issues
Depreciation
If you were spending your own money and keeping it for several years, which one would you buy?
I’d especially like to hear from EQE owners whether the huge depreciation makes a lightly used EQE one of the best-value options here, or whether there are good reasons to pay more for the new-generation cars.
