How did you make the decision to go the surgery route?

I have been diagnosed with “colonic motility disorder” and “dyssynergic defecation”. I’ve been on motegrity for a month, and have also been doing pelvic floor PT once a week. At first the motegrity seemed to work. However, it’s stopped now. I haven’t had any movement in 7 days. I’m also taking 2 capsules of colace and one scoop of miralax every day. I feel like I am doing everything I can.

I don’t want to consider surgery as an option. That terrifies me. However, I’m miserable. I was hopeful that motegrity and PT would help, but now I feel disappointed.

If you’ve had surgery, what kind did you get, did it help, and how did you make the decision to go through with it? Thanks :)

Working at PHI Aviation

Anyone ever work for PHI Aviation corporate? Specifically in their data & analytics department? When, and what was your experience? Specifically wondering about company/team culture and work-life balance. Thanks!

Injured Runner, Cycle-Curious

I’m sure I’m not the first to ask some variation of this question.

I’m an injured runner. It’s been 2 years I’m out, and I’m coming to terms with the fact I may never run long distance again. With that said, I’ve started looking into cycling. And it’s…overwhelming, to say the least.

I guess my question is this: What are some things you wish you knew as a beginner cyclist? What would you do differently if you could? Words of wisdom appreciated and encouraged.

Thanks :)

Edit: Thank you all for such thoughtful responses!! What a lovely community ❤️

Today I make 7 years sober and no one remembered, leftover burrito with fruit

Not even my wife or my mom remembered to congratulate me. I’m still proud of myself. It just kinda sucks.

About 30 days ago I (31f) posted this photo along with my CT scans that showed severe constipation.

A lot has happened since then, with not much improvement.

I was first ordered to take 2 bottles of mag citrate 4 hours apart. Nothing happened (nothing!).

My doctor decided to then do a colonoscopy with an extended hard prep. In all, for this prep, I did:
-3 bottles of mag citrate
-2 bottles of Suprep
-48+ hours of clear liquid diet
-1 day of low residue diet
-1 enema

I had the colonoscopy this morning. These were the findings:
-Erosions in the appendiceal orifice (biopsied)
-tortuous sigmoid colon

I have been prescribed Linzess.

I am still extremely bloated (see pic in comments). Doctor told me to do a low FODMAP diet for 3-4 days and to “give it a week” for the bloating to go down. He said now that my lower colon is cleared, the stool that is still in the upper colon will be able to clear out.

I feel frustrated that I’m still so bloated, and don’t feel confident that it will fix itself over the next week. Is there some truth to what he said? Should I have faith, and wait it out? Or should I continue pushing them for further treatment?

Haven’t had solid food in 36 hours, and won’t have any for another ~22 hours. I am “severely constipated” with a “large amount of stool diffusely throughout” my colon and “at risk of bowel perforation”. Not looking forward to the solution I have to drink later today. But I am looking forward to my post-procedure meal.

On the bright side, my wife made me this bomb ass homemade broth AND my boss gave me a bonus today :)
