Byredo experience

Is this how Byredo candles burn typically? Otherwise my candle burns evenly and to the full pool and doesn’t soot. I haven’t seen leftover edges in my other candles, idk how to call them. I like Bibliotheque when the weather is right like warm nights. It’s not strong but still noticeable with a bit sweetness/ powderiness and vanilla scents floating around with living room windows open. I don’t detect any woodsy or leathery notes though.

Complex coffee candles by vibes

Hi, I have another coffee post but with a twist hopefully. I want to gets recs from the community for my burgeoning coffee interest. I have this neighbor who brews coffee and it smells very nice but it’s not just black coffee, it’s coffee with spices, fog and woody notes. We both open windows in the morning so coffee mixes in with fresh fog, morning air and woods scents and I enjoy it very much.

Note, I prefer non sweet, not too much pastry, non acidic/sharp, and non lactonic notes but would be still interesting to learn all recs regardless. I sampled local artisan candles like Vietnamese, Thai and Moroccan coffee candles and they all add too much sugar and milk notes for my taste, unfortunately.

I was thinking to organize recs by the following criteria:

  1. Warm and spicy. Coffee with cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon, a bit of cloves, sichuan pepper and other notes. Not necessarily all these spice notes mixed in together in one candle. Something like Turkish coffee, maybe.

  2. Dark and earthy. Drinking coffee in a crisp morning or high end bookstore. Tobacco (pipe or blond varieties), leather (suede), sandalwood, Oud, not too much cedar, a little bit of smoke, and other notes. I was thinking of Hogwarts in the autumn somehow for this category.

  3. Elevated gourmand. Tonka bean, dark or bitter chocolate, hazelnut, almond, pistachio, chestnut, dark cocoa and other notes. I was envisioning those high end Micheline star boulangeries in Paris that sell $$$$$ coffee, artisanal chocolates, and pastry shops. They look like art and taste divine.

  4. Bright and invigorating mornings. Citrusy zesty, peppermint, saffron, sichuan pepper, and other notes. Something to actively wake me up when I want to go back to bed but gotta go to work.

Malin+Goetz Grass candle

I spotted this candle in the wild and thought “how interesting, I don’t recall M+G released something like that” and naturally I put in my cart. But then I thought “could it be cannabis?” I smells cologny to me 🤨 Am I right or it’s something new entirely?

Candles that highlight Oolong Formosa and Milk Oolong tea scents

Hi group, I am looking for candles that highlight the above mentioned scent notes. I'd appreciate recs from connoisseurs please. As a preference, I dislike syrupy cloying scents and have Trudon Dada which I adore but it ain't showcasing oolong tea. Thanks guys.

La Mer Treatment Lotion and eczema

I bought the treatment lotion recently just to try it out and have been enjoying the texture, how it glides on the face and neck easy and absorps quickly. I mainly wanted to try for that famous fermented algae mircale broth (supposely high quality brown algae) to add antioxidants into my skincare routine. I am also glad that the scent is very light and inoffensive.

Anyways, the other weekend I had an eczema flare up on my neck and had to strip down my skincare routine to basics. It takes several days (around 3) of using basics to calm things down but this time it took a day and a half only. I was amazed and totally unexpected. I am thinking of trying it on my hands because I get eczema there too. Now, I would not be opposed to trying the uber expensive cream. Anyone had a similar experience?

Which version of a fragrance line do you reach the most—EdT, EdC, EdP, or Extrait?

I have attempted to organize my collection and recheck notes of some fragrances (edc, edt, edp, extrait) from the same line to see if I prefer one over the other the other and still have not fully organized lol. But it made me think that it's hard to predict which one I will like unless I purchase first (some sellers do not let me sniff prior to purchasing). Also, please share your experiences here. I would like to learn more to educate myself and help with future purchases.

I have Samsara EdP and Extrait de Parfum and way prefer Parfum. It's less floral and has more of a smooth velvety base (sandalwood?) note and maybe iris is more pronounced. It's also not as loud as the EdP and has more richness to it. EdP is very floral forward and stonger in projection. I am not a floral kinda guy and I think I'm digging a buttery iris note.

Chanel Bois des Iles EdC and 90's EdT. I prefer the EdC over EdT because it has more of a woody powdery dry note and restrained florals and EdT is creamier and more floral. It also seems to have more animal dry down. Wish I can find a larger EdC bottle one day.

Chanel N5 EdC, EdT, and Extrait. Prefer EdC and Extrait over EdT. EdC is drier, less powdery, crisp and has more smokey woody animalic notes. Extrait is more buttery, deep, and more warm amber and EdT is more aldehedic and floral.

Guerlain EdT, EdC, Extrait and 90's EdP. All of them except the 90's EdP. They are all more animalic, vanilla forward, leathery, drier, richer and smokey. 90's EdP despite being released prior to IFRA regulatiosn seems sweeter, more floral forward, thinner and lacks all other qualities I described.

Aramis JHL (late 90's) and EL Cinnabar/Youth Dew EdC. All of them except Youth Dew Extrait. It's way sweet and dense for me.

Opium Parfum and EdT. I enjoy Parfum more because it feels less dense, darker, more resinous, animalic and warm woody at the base.

I am spoiled with vintage fragrances because now whenever I smell my favorite but long discontinued Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensee (dry woody non sweet vanilla) I realized it was thinner and lighter. I still like it thought. I tried Bvlgary Orom and it smells now so synthetic and not rich and complex. Like what I am gonna do now with modern fragrances?!

Guerlain Fleur de Feu

I got an empty (baccarat) bottle (80 mL) with a little bit of juice left and omg the packaging it arrived in smells Devine. Like what is this magic?! It’s very feminine and I can’t wear it but damn I can appreciate that perfume. Honeyed flowers with tonka, a bit powdery and warm vanilla, it has a bit of woody note, a little bit sweet and spicy. I wonder if it’s a pure perfume.

Etsy has one but it’s 8.5 fl oz and it’s $4,290!!!! That’s crazy money. Into my vault of never seeing sunshine it goes with the packaging to preserve what little I have.

So different from Shalimar but equally impressive. It’s so so so gooood…..It sucks it’s discontinued.

Anyone has/had it and can share their experience wearing it?

Vintage collection

I wanted to share my small but mighty collection. It includes men’s and women’s fragrances that anyone can wear. After sampling 80s men’s fragrances I’ve realized I’m not a fougere guy but still happy to have them in my collection. Of all women’s fragrances, I’m very surprised that Fendi EdT is the most masculine but was marketed to women. It’s so a bit spicy leather which the note I enjoy. Of the men’s fragrances, I am surprised that I didn’t mind YSL Kouros Fraiche and I think it’s great in the morning for a zest of energising scent (1 spray is enough for me). RL Green Polo is from 1978 and I’m getting Pinesol vibes 😕 disappointing.

I have: men’s Chanel anteus, CK obsession, Chanel egoiste, Chanel allure, YSL opium, Guerlain heritage, Chanel after shave (later became pour monsieur I think). Women’s but unisex: EL cinnabar, CK obsession, Givenchy III, Caron Nocturnes, YSL secret of opium, Fendi EdT, Ungaro diva, Lanvin my sin extrait, Rochas femme, Chanel coco, Jean Patou my liberte.

Chanel factice?

Hi, does anybody know what circle ⭕️ symbols mean in the back of labels? I’ve recently got a bottle of Chanel Eau De Cologne Pour Monsieur and I think it’s a store display rather than an actual fragrance. I see in the back of the label that says “Dummy Nov 1962?” which made me to believe it’s a factice. There’s also a rubber stopper. It looks quite vintage, maybe 70s or 80s?

Anyone knows what’s this?

Can someone knowledgeable identify this bottle of fragrance please? There’s no identifying information anywhere on the bottle but it smells similar to the 80s women marketed fragrances or just matured to emphasise base notes more. The sprayer doesn’t work but I was able to sniff around it.

I got seems like a very large unopened extrait but gosh darn it cannot open. It’s like glued or something and afraid of breaking the neck. Anyhow, isn’t it pretty? And I think it’s from 60s? I hope it’s not too floral or aldehydic. In comparison, I enjoy Chanel n5 EdC.

Calvin by Calvin Klein vintage

I got my first men marketed cologne recently and it’s from the 80s and it immediately reminded me of my father wearing something similar. The memory just slapped me in my face, scents memories are crazy. But the fragrance is strong and so masculine that I’m wondering if men’s fragrances from that era give off that very masculine vibe? Unsure if I like it just like the Dior poison. Both are extreme ends of the gender spectrum to me, I think I lean more towards unisex leaning masculine.

Anyone can recommend mens oriented fragrances that fit the bill? I already own and enjoy women’s marketed but unisex nowadays opium, youth dew, tabu, obsession, shalimar, Chanel n5 edc, FYI. I’m currently hunting down Chanel n19 edt and maybe Lanvin my sin pure parfum. What do you think?

Christian Dior Poison EdT question

I found this bottle locally and bought without sampling it because I couldn’t open the stopper. I finally managed to open it and omg it’s so potent and feminine floral bouquet but a piece of history regardless. Just one tiny swap on the skin and the scent is in your face. Now I get why people were banned entering cafes in Paris if wearing this fragrance. However, I’m curious if knowledge people can help me in identifying its production period? I suspect it’s from the 80s.

I saw Christmas, perfumes, and recently discontinued candles along with kitchen and candles accessories such as plates. I didn’t know Diptyque is in the kitchen business. Thought I don’t know how Diptyque can possibly ship candles in high heats blasting Europe!

Vintage Estee Lauder Youth Dew Cologne

I bought this cologne and it smells so good. I didn’t know what to expect when placing an order but I was intrigued. I’m a dude and I can pull it off, I think. Ambery, woody, musky with something a bit spicy. Though I don’t know if guys can wear perfumes or Eau de perfumes. Advice on that? Also, what other women marketed perfumes guys can wear as well? I’m digging vintage fragrances.

I bought Guerlain Shalimar Extrait and EdT I think from 70s/80s and they smell terrific and totally unisex.

How would you clean up this mess?

I got my Ssence order and Trudon is very messy. Luckily I only got one old Trudon (labeled as Cire Trudon) and this is fresh but messed up. How would I clean this candle? Any advise? Thanks.
