What's up with google scholar citations ? [D]

Early-stage researcher, and yes, I get excited about people citing my work.

I was browsing through arXiv for accepted NeurIPS papers, and I saw multiple papers citing my work. These papers have been there for months, but Google Scholar still has not updated its citations, and it has occurred before, but I ignored it and thought it was a one-time error.

Does it usually happen? How long do you wait before you get your citations? I know it is naive, but still.

Working with an AI Company That Does Things You Disagree With [D]

I'm a PhD student in machine learning in the EU and was looking for internships at exciting companies.

I shortlisted few and applied by reaching out to people and now reading project descriptions sent by the recruiters.

I don't want to name the company but their marketing and product team does all kinds of 'using people insecurities' to sell the product - which I don't agree with. And their product is also meh (I will never buy and would judge someone if they do) but their research team is doing good work.

How do you see this? Will you actually work in a team whose ideology/product doesn't necessarily align with your ethics/ideology. Should I just go ahead because work is exciting and I will get good supervision?

And, if you have some exciting work in your company/org and need interns (un-paid) for 3-4 months. I'm open.

Paper on ArXiv for a year now, should I disclose about it in ICLR submission? [Discussion]

Hi,

I have a solo paper on arxiv from my masters studies, which was my part-time work and a few months back I got back to it and tried to finally make it publication ready.

Do I need to disclose it in the main paper for ICLR submission that there exists a paper with a similar title but a little different writing and added experiments? Will it hurt anonymity even if I don't refer to the paper? And if I don't do that, will it hurt the novelty?

What does industry needs? people in hardware/electrical need your help.

Hello guys!

I'm a researcher in applied mathematics and I have a mentee who is genuinely interested in embedded, VLSI and hardware engineering. Why me? Because I have a background in the same but many years back I decided to switch and since have no idea how this field evolved.

I want to ask people in this field - with all uncertainty about jobs, AI attracting many jobs, and someone willing to be guided - what roadmap do you suggest?

Mentee is a bachelor student, academically brilliant.

- what subfields are hot and which are evergreen. I would love to get a rough roadmap on this.

- what programming languages should be a priority. Also is leetcode a thing in this field?

- hardware engineering looks very broad. What aspects should entry-level must do? Any books, courses you recommend?

- i would love any inputs you may have

Thanks everyone

VLMs can score well on benchmarks, while silently erasing meaningful terms and including hallucinate bias [P]

While working with VLMs for report generation on chest x-rays (RRG), we noticed that evaluation metrics are flawed.

Flawed in a sense where they rewarded repetitive templates, reports without clinical terms and reports which were "normal" with high scores on benchmark metrics. Also, clinically meaningful but rare words were erased leaving the generated report looking repetitive and boring. Importantly, of no clinical utility.

In the paper below, we discuss this behaviour of VLMs for RRG and introduce a framework to actually measure the erasure of terms and introduction of biased terms.

Breaking into Quant/HF roles in Denmark

Morning everyone!

My qualification: PhD (ongoing) in Denmark

I really like living in Denmark and thinking of career options after my PhD. Quant/High-freq researcher/engineer seems to be thing here because of presence of a lot of energy companies and doing interesting work.

How do I break into this market? I know it is competitive but I believe there must be a roadmap which can lead me there, considering I have 1+ year left to prepare.

Any prerequisites or minimum qualification one must have?

Need advice - Partner moving in after 1 year, realistic to find an apartment?

Hello all!

I'm non-EU. I live in shared housing, so saving up enough money for a big move with an okay salary is challenging.

I'm planning to get married and bring my spouse to Denmark in around 14 months from now. I know too far, but I think I should start preparing now.

  1. Given my salary stays the same, can I find 1/2 bed apartment for ~8-10k in the outskirts of CPH? I'm okay to travel 30-45 min daily. I think I will save enough for a deposit and an okay living.
  2. I see that housing associations can help find a cheaper place, but it takes years. Is there something I can apply now so that I get something within 12-16 months?

Canon EOS 100D - 18-135mm: Should I buy it as my first camera?

I am getting a used Canon EOS 100D mirror reflex with a zoom lens 18-135mm with all accessories at a marketplace for 150$.

Always been a mobile photographer, but looking to get something solid with the money I saved up as a student. Is it worth the deal, or is there something else I should be looking at before I make my first big (for me) purchase?

I will be mostly doing portraits and landscapes as I travel a lot.

Learn to approach people - first real step to begin networking!

My observation from 100s of people who DMed me in the last few days here, on LinkedIn and from mistakes I've made.

Some of the points are from a seminar I attended last week on how to cold open (was specific to some other domain, but still relevant).

  1. Do not use 'sir' & 'madam'. It is literally a colonial thing to do, and I'm ashamed of doing the same. Never use 'sir/mam' -- nobody will feel disrespected if you call them by FirstName/Mr/Mrs/Dear. If they do get disrespected, you dodged a bullet.

(On another note: we are already trolled all over the world because of this. Let's not be part of these stereotypes. And we are not at fault, we are taught to do this from school. But it is always good to learn and improve)

  1. Do not be a leach. Rarely there will be someone willing to do something for you - review/refer/guide you selflessly. Do not such blood out of the person, if you have nothing to offer, offer respect and good luck. Respect others time.

  2. Continuing point 2 - respect other's time. Your first interaction should be enough to answer all your questions. Make a bullet/enumerated list of your points and questions. Be concise. Short and contextual text always wins.

  3. Have self-respect, irrespective of what stage of career you are. Introduce yourself with confidence. Nobody wants to talk with a loser. Introduction should be short concise and should also include why you are engaging in first place.

  4. Be thankful. Not just because you have to, but because a person is taking out the time of his life, selflessly to talk to you. (Do not be a leach, again).

  5. Do not slap a GPTsquie message to everyone. Any sane person can identify it and it makes text fluffy and not concise. I personally never read such messages, far from engaging. (And slowly every sane person will start doing the same). Learn to talk, proper English (ask AI for words you are looking for, in case) and clear.

  6. Be humble and expect the other side to be the same. Straightforward answer is not rude. We are used to buttering, world is not.

Good luck! Have a great week.

EEML Summer School (Eastern European ML) - Anyone here got accepted? [D]

Has anyone got into EEML Summer School in Montenegro?

I did and please feel free to DM to manage stay or other plans after the summer school.

I see that it's tricky to get there and find a stay.

Planning visit to Puri on 23rd-26th June. Can I have darshan, or any disturbance expected?

I am planning to visit Puri and Konark with friends from Scandinavia on 23rd June for 3 days.

I see a very irregular calendar suggesting that there will be yatra and chances of now having darshana of deity. Can I have some confirmed or at least confidence source of wheather that's a good time to visit?

Also any insights on what crowd to expect and weather?

Thank you all!

MIDL 2025 proceedings missing? [D]

Does anyone know where I can find MIDL 2025 proceedings on PMLR? I see it for 2024 and even 2026 but 2025 is completely missing from the internet?

And I got a review which is completely unrelated to my paper. I'm not sure how to deal with this.

How did your reviews go? Happy with the results?

▲ 186 r/CVPR+1 crossposts

I cam across the PHAROS-AIF-MIH workshop at CVPR 2026 and one of the condition to participate in their challenge is to cite 13 papers by the challenge organizer and they are not related to the challenge. 13! 13 papers! And that too with multiple authors. And it is mandatory to upload your paper to arxiv to be eligible for this competition.

Citing 13 non-related papers and uploading paper to arxiv. Isn't it clearly citation farming attempt by organizers? And it will be not a small number, it will be close to a thousand.

I'm not sure how things work, but this is not what we all expect from a CVPR competition. Can we do something to flag this? We can't let this slide, can we?
