Who got acceptance letter from International Relations?

I got acceptance from METU as a separate application apart from TB. My priority was METU among other 6 universities that I wrote. I am waiting for my acceptance letter. Some guys got their acceptance letters who applied for engineering. What about us?

guys i need your advice

Hi everyone,
I’m an 18-year-old Muslim student, and I just graduated from school. Tomorrow we have our official prom celebration, and the day after tomorrow my classmates are organizing another graduation party.
I’ve been looking forward to these events for a long time because they mark the end of an important chapter in my life. However, since it’s Muharram, I’m feeling conflicted. I know many Muslims treat this month, especially its early days, as a time of mourning, and I’m worried that dancing, having fun, and celebrating might be disrespectful or even sinful.
At the same time, this is probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I’ll never get back. I’m not planning on doing anything immoral—just spending time with friends, taking photos, and enjoying the moment.
I’m curious how other Muslims approach situations like this. Would you attend? Do you think there’s a way to balance respect for Muharram with celebrating graduation, or would you avoid the party altogether?
I’d really appreciate hearing different perspectives, especially from both Sunni and Shia viewpoints. To be honest, I really want to take part in this party and have a fun

The most terrible Interview experience so far

I had my scholarship interview today and honestly I still feel terrible and embarrassed about what happened.

I applied for International Relations and my academic profile is actually pretty strong. I gave them my documents at the beginning: 1480 SAT, 94 TOEFL, my DIM exam scores (290.2 from 9th grade and 292.9 from 11th grade), certificates, diplomas, medals, etc. They looked at them and literally told me “these results are perfect, mashallah,” especially my DIM scores.

At first everything was calm. They asked me to talk about my family, what my parents do, and I answered normally. They asked me "why IR?", I told them i was interested in subjects like geography,....Then suddenly they started asking geography questions. Things about bays, straits, continents, political geography, and later the UN structures.

That’s where things started going downhill for me.

I couldn’t answer some strait questions properly. On some of them I hesitated too much. Then they asked me how many continents there are. I said 6, but while counting them I counted 7 myself. They smiled and asked “is your geography good?” and I awkwardly answered “political geography is okay.”

Then they asked me about the UN structures. I completely blanked and said honestly that I wasn’t aware of them.

After that I suddenly started feeling extremely dizzy and nauseous. My body literally started shutting down. I told them I needed water because I was having an attack. They asked if I was okay. I stood up trying to go to the bathroom and after that I genuinely don’t remember anything.

Apparently I fainted.

When I woke up, all of them were gathered around me trying to help me recover. They gave me water and tried to calm me down. They told me to call my parents. I think the main reason this happened was because I already felt bad and inexperienced after struggling with those questions. I have anxiety issues and the pressure completely destroyed me in that moment.

What surprised me is that they were actually very kind afterward. They told me to stay there after everyone left because they would call me again. Later they came back and only two interviewers talked to me in a much calmer and less formal way.

They asked:

- what I plan to do after getting the scholarship

- what I want to do after university

- about my interests and activities

I told them I want to continue with a Master’s degree in Türkiye and then return to my country to work in IR-related areas. I also talked about learning French by myself and organizing an intellectual game event at school.

They even asked if I’m learning French on my own and seemed interested in that. I noted that I have some knowledge on Russian.

At the end they told me that if I want to add something about myself, I can send them an email.

The weird thing is that the ending didn’t even feel like a formal interview anymore. It felt more human and personal after the whole incident.

Still, I honestly feel awful about my performance because I know I could have done much better if I stayed calm. I feel like they tried to console me at the end. Now I have to wait until the end of July for the results and my brain keeps replaying the whole thing over and over.

I want u guys to tell your honest opinions. To be honest, I don't think that they are gonna give me a scholarship, but my friends, consultant say they will. What are your thoughts on this?

What potential questions do they ask for International Relations students?

I am from Azerbaijan and I am gonna have an interview on Friday. I wonder what kind of questions related to the field they ask. Has anyone got?

what a terrible accident

I’ve been in a relationship with my girlfriend for a little over a year now — we hit 1 year on April 9th. Up until now, things have honestly been good. We don’t really have big conflicts, we talk regularly, and I’ve always tried to treat her well and be supportive.

Today something happened that completely messed with my head, and I don’t know how to process it.

I was in a serious discussion with my family and a mentor about my university plans, so I was already a bit stressed. At the same time, I was texting my girlfriend like normal — everything felt completely fine, no tension, nothing off.

I was talking with her during the discussion and everything was super normal. Out of nowhere, she texts me that she wants to break up.

No buildup. No explanation. Just that.

I was honestly in shock. I started asking her what happened, why, if I did something wrong — all the usual questions. She kept saying she was serious and that there was nothing I could do. At that point I felt physically sick — dizzy, my skin went pale, I felt like I could faint. My parents and mentor noticed something was wrong but I didn’t tell them what happened.

Then she told me there was another guy. Actually, she didn't say that she ignored but i texted her best friend about the issue at that moment, she told me that yeah u should discuss yourselves. I asked why she did this, about another guy she told me "yup".

That part hit the hardest. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that kind of drop in my stomach before. I was trying to process everything at once — losing her, being replaced, what I did wrong — all of it.

I was about to accept everything. Then suddenly she said it’s a prank. She was only joking

Just like that.

I didn’t even know how to react. I didn’t believe her at first because it felt too real. I had already started breaking down emotionally. When it clicked that she was serious about it being a “joke,” I just felt empty and hurt.

After that, she started apologizing multiple times and kept asking me if I was offended by what she did. She said she “just wanted to see my reaction.”

I told her she broke my heart and that I wasn’t okay, then ended the conversation and said I was going to sleep.

Now I’m just sitting here confused.

On one hand, we’ve had a good relationship overall. On the other hand, I can’t understand why someone would do this to a person they care about. This didn’t feel like a harmless joke — it felt completely real, and my body reacted like something actually terrible had happened.

I guess I’m asking:

Is this something people consider normal or “just a bad joke,” or is this a red flag?

Because right now I don’t feel okay just brushing it off like nothing happened.
