First Impressions — That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime(I'm Spanish, so all of this is translated.)
I just finished That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and I’m honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I expected another isekai where the protagonist becomes ridiculously overpowered, but the series ended up being much more than that.
One of the things I liked most is the world-building. The world feels huge and alive, with different countries, races, monsters, and territories that all have their own interests and problems. I especially like how Tempest doesn’t exist in isolation and how Rimuru’s decisions can have much bigger political and economic consequences than expected.
The political conflicts are also one of my favorite parts. Not every problem is solved simply because Rimuru is stronger. There are negotiations, alliances, betrayals, wars, and diplomatic decisions. Since Rimuru is building a country, he has to think not only about himself but also about the people who depend on him.
That’s also why Rimuru grew on me as a protagonist. His strength is impressive, but what I find more interesting is how he chooses to use it. He wants to protect his people and help Tempest prosper, and as the story progresses, he gradually accepts the responsibility of being a leader.
The supporting cast deserves a lot of credit too. Characters like Shion, Shuna, Benimaru, Diablo, Veldora, Geld, Souei, and Gabiru all have different personalities and make Tempest feel like a real community. Because of that, you actually care about what happens when the nation is threatened.
I also enjoyed how connected the story feels. Events that seem minor at first can become important later, and earlier decisions often create new consequences. The magic and ability system is another fun part, with unique skills, evolutions, resistances, magic, and different ways of using powers.
But what kept me hooked the most was the sense of progression. Rimuru starts by simply trying to survive and find his place in the world, but eventually he gathers companions, builds Tempest, forms relationships with other nations, and becomes involved in much bigger events. You get to watch both Rimuru and Tempest grow from almost nothing into something much greater.
Overall, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime was much better than I expected. It has action, charismatic characters, magic, politics, strategy, world-building, and a protagonist who remains interesting despite being incredibly powerful. What matters most isn’t how much power Rimuru has, but what he chooses to do with it.
And after finishing it, I’m left with that feeling of “I need to see what happens next,” which, for me, is one of the best signs that an anime really managed to hook me.
But it's good to remember that there could be many more stories left to tell, so there's still Bleach 😌
