[D] What's the role of asymptotic statistics in real life applications?

What benefits can an applied statistician get from learning asymptotics? from basic inference stats I was taught that "limit" properties e.g consistency are good to have, but I haven't gotten this "feeling" of importance, especially in ML/TS forecasting problems. Have you used asymptotic results in your work as an applied statistician/data scientist etc ?

What are some interesting and niche fields where SP is applied ?

Aside from communication, imaging and audio processing, are there other STEM fields that have been using SP tools to solve their problems?

I kept this photo on my phone from the famine in Gaza. At the time, this was being sold to us as dried chicken breast. Later, we discovered that it was actually intended as animal food. I kept this photo because I don't want to forget what hunger forced people here to endure.

[Discussion] if you develop and use Probabilistic Time Series forecasts, which type of forecasts do you find to be more informative in decision making?

Different type of forecasts exist for different tasks, but I am mainly interessted in density, cdf and quantile forecasting, what do organizations and decision/policy makers use as their primary paradigm of forecasting? aside from the technical difficulty of the models, are there other factors that affect your model of choice?

Any good graded readers for "complex topics"?

Hallo Leute, I like to read about STEM, economics and history, I am barely A2 so it is not typically recommended to read texts in these "complex" fields, however maybe there are elementary books/articles/blogs that are suitable for my level, what do you think?

Why do we have this order?

This sentence here made me scratch my head: "Das innovative System stellt in jeder Lektion dein Niveau fest, damit du schnell die für dich geeigneten Texte finden kannst."

Sollte der nebensatz "damit du schnell für dich die geeigneten Texte finden kannst" nicht sein?

Teaching wise, what are the qualities of your ideal math professor/teacher?

Being a math instructor is, understandably, a hard profession, and we all had experiences with both good and bad teachers of math, I always wanted to know what do mathematician (in its largest sense) consider as a good math teaching philosophy. When I was an undergrad I had a discussion with my peers about our professors and unfortunately most of them had shallow criteria of goodness (the usual one was how easy their exams are), it was a hard realization for me at the time that some math majors are there only for the degree and not for math itself.

You can include some examples of famous professors if it can help you convey your idea.

New to usenet and interested in education material

Hi people, I hope you can bear with me as newbie, I am interested in curating learning and education (e.g video lectures, MOOCS, textbooks you name it) and I heard that usenet contains some hidden gem, I have never used it before and I do understand the mechanism of it, however I am not sure which providers, indexers and newsreaders that specialize in these type of data/files. I would like some guidance in this matter, any suggestions and piece of advice is welcome.

What's your opinion on integrating Lambda Calculus into undergrad math curriculum?

IMO more CS topics should be mandatory for completing a BSc in Pure Mathematics, especially topics such as Lambda Calculus, Automata & Complexity theory and Information theory, not only their mathematics are interesting but I am convinced that these areas of CS can be pushed if more mathematicians get a taste of the main ideas and concepts. I am aware that some math departments do include them, but they are the exception, Math has become a massive jungle but our school/uni programs haven't kept in touch.

I am not a computer scientist, but through this interessting and informative book I discovered some notions in CS that I never heard of, I am looking for something in the same vein, where I can discover CS concepts and their "application" in life.

Consulting in the past vs now ?

I am not a consultant, neither do I have any thorough knowledge about what makes someone a consultant, but how come that, nowadays, we have Uni degrees specialized in "consulting" that promise their graduate of acquiring skills which, as far as I my understanding of the word consulting goes, take years of working in a specific industry, ranging from technical roles to decision making jobs, to actually build the required tacit knowledge for consulting, does this make any sense to you folks?

Resemblance in the way that there is no success vs failure modes, but you get what you deserve (e.g you aim for b2 but you can "fail" and get b1), anything like this?
