I hate the work culture here

Im sure im not the only one… Indian politics, Arab politics (Lebanese politics, other nationalities too), Pakistani politics, Russian politics, Emirati politics.. I feel like we have all these diff people from all these diff countries that INSIST on bringing their own culture from back home here and trying to enforce it.

It’s crazy how a city that has 90% expat is more like a salad rather than a melting pot when it comes to work.. everyone is a faction that works by their pw rules. Not to mention the quality of work here from the 5 diff places I worked at has been abysmal.. I know many of you will say I should try working for an MNC which I also have and even then it was fully Indian management behavior.. is this really how it is at every single company here? Is my option to just find a fully remote job?

I’d like to hear others thoughts I’m kind of venting but I hope there’s a Light at the end of the tunnel… maybe there are good companies here that have competency, processes, a liveable wage and a friendly culture..
This is my other complaint too and I noticed it at every place I worked, everyone had factions that was 9/10 times by nationality. Meaning since I’m not Indian, I’d try to befriend them at my work and they don’t seem to reciprocate, I’ve seen This at other nationalities too.. it really makes me think Dubai is a salad not a melting pot

Curious to know if others have any positive stories atleast to provide some hope.. I’ve just put in my notice at my workplace (the 5th workplace since I’ve been in this country ) and now I’m thinking I’m not even gonna consider working here anymore.. I thought to myself if I’m the one always leaving these companies the problem either has to be me, or it has to be the country..

TLDR; why is the work culture here so weird, lacks any processes and full of incompetency

Why is WhatsApp community so shit?

It’s look it tried to be slack and discord at the same time and ended up being neither.. I run a large group on there and it’s horrid to deal with but unfortunate since WhatsApp is the most popular chat app where I live.. also I hate how I can’t hide users from seeing each others contacts (we get lots of spammers leak contacts )..

Is it just me that finds WhatsApp community horrible?

What’s your favorite business in the UAE?

Whether it’s a business you like for how well they’re run, for their quality, for any unique things about them specifically..

I’ll list some of the ones I really admire

- Katrina: affordable and actually good quality. Majority of businesses either offer great quality at premium prices or meh/ok quality at normal prices.. you don’t get too many fair price AND good quality product or service businesses here but feel free to prove me wrong

- maisan15: still criminally underrated, I’m surprised we don’t have more tropical vibe cafes like cafes where it feels like ur outside but have cool weather (if you’ve ever sat outside there you’ll know what I mean).. also I spoke to the owner a few times they’re really friendly and pour their heart into it

- Frio: while I don’t like their pricing I like how they’re extremely consistent and I’ve been a regular buyer for quite some time.. this one is so much cleaner than Coke and it’s 100% local which is cool

I’ll edit if I can think of more as they come to me, do yall have a fav business here?

What kind of hair is this?

Hi all I’m struggling to find styles that’ll work with my hair, I have a basic routine down but it doesn’t really look well. It’s more like I just make my hair look less frizzy with the stuff I do to it. I use some shea conditiner and their leave in conditiner and sometimes Aussie instant freeze gel. I normally just use detangling brush in the shower to make my hair detangled but I don’t really do anything else

I still don’t even know what my hair type is and ai is telling me it’s 3b one day and 4c the next lol

My hair is a bit wiry/coarse while also being curly. It’s hard to find info even on this sub cuz it seems like it’s mostly non ethnic hair

What are your favorite nightlife spots?

Ones that you recommend on weekends or even some weeknights? The only one I found that was good on a weeknight was LSB on a Thursday

Am I crazy or is the energy in Dubai now feel weird?

I can’t tell if this is the heat or what it is but for the past few months I feel really strange.. specially at work like I almost feel suffocated. Im sure it’s a combination of things like work pressure, lack of fresh air and just maybe the phase I’m going through in life but does anyone feel like this since the war ?

How do you get customers in this damn city without a network?

I feel like it’s so hard to get a good solid base of customers or even being able to find suppliers that are willing to work with me.. is it just me or is this doing business in this country really rough if you don’t know people or have been here for a while? I swear it was much easier in Poland than here even if the margins were lower

Where do you meet single women here?

I’m trying a bunch of different things like going to diff fitness groups, going out whenever I can but there doesn’t seem to be “spots” where everyone goes to like on a Friday for example.. I tried going to W hotel Abu Dhabi in that bar, I tried a few other spots that were recommended on here but I don’t really see regulars out and about.. does anyone have recommendations for places to go out?

I hate using apps here I’m sure you know how those are like.. so I’m trying every other way to find a partner.

Businesses to start with 300k aed

Just wanted to get the community ideas for this.. I have about 300k saved (currently sitting in bonds) I was wondering if there are realistic businesses to start with this amount? It doesn’t have to be online it could be physical too.. would love to hear your thoughts

How do you deal with the loneliness?

Dubai is generally pretty transient and everyone’s tied up to their jobs.. I feel like for us business owners it’s a lot more intense.. specially for solo founders (or non married founders) and smaller teams..

I guess joining groups like this sub and stuff help, I’ve tried other things like talking to an actual therapist lol but I think they couldn’t really relate.. I can’t explain it but it’s weird, it’s like when ur workin at a company and you’re going in at the same time daily and seein the same people there’s some comfort there whereas with all the chaos we go through as business owners it’s a bit harder..

What do you guys personally do? I found a lot of advice online but it’s pretty generic not really specific to dubai

Why does my sebderm flare up hard in excercise?

I’ve had success with zinc bar and MCT oil, it seems like my face alwaysgoes nuts when I excercise tho.. specially where I live in dubai with high humidity .. this was after like 1 hour of barely any exercise.. like I didn’t really run or do a lot of intense cardio.

What’s my best action during moment Like this ? I normally use mct oil sparingly as well as a zinc bar a few days a week

Shoutout to Frio

I’m surprised more businesses don’t do this here, I’ve probably only ordered 3 or 4 times from them and they just sent me this gift box with exclusive flavors that haven’t released yet.. why is this really common in the west but not here
