Update on getting Augusts Buck of the month for partners 40th.

Update on getting Augusts Buck of the month for partners 40th.

A few of you lovely people helped me out earlier so I thought I'd give an update.

I was trying to get the buck of the month for my partner for his 40th birthday month.

It dropped Friday but I wasn't able to purchase one because it wouldn't ship to Canada. Finally today I got ahold of someone at the company and they were able to manually put it in for me as it isn't technically a type that's illegal here and many do make it through.

I also managed to find him a "vintage" 1986 knife with the < mark (which I know I'm lucky to find because this is the first year things were dated like that and it started part way through that year, it took some searching).

I'm hopeful the August 2026 "buck of the month" makes it through customs. His birthday is next week so I won't have it on hand for him, however I'm hoping to at least find out if it cleared customs so I can tell him he's getting it or purchase some other 2026 110 locally to gift him.

Please cross all of your fingers for me.

(Photo of the 1986 knife I got off of Facebook marketplace. Should I clean the sheath up with some leather polish or leave it as is? What would you guys prefer if it was being gifted to you?)

Buck (of the month?) for 40th!

Hey lovely folks.

I posted awhile back about getting my partner a buck for his 40th birthday.

Obviously they weren't doing "buck of the month" in 1986 so I thought it would be cool to get him the buck of the month for August 2026 which is the month of his 40th.

Are these impossible to get if I watch for the launch and buy immediately? The previous ones I've seen are within my budget but at the high end with duties and shipping (I'm Canadian).

Does anybody have any insight into how these drops work and how to best go about having a good shot at snagging one?

I've joined the mailing list and it seems that most of them are released around the end of the month. I likely wouldn't have it in my hands to gift him on his actual birthday (the 25th) but I'm really really hoping I'll at least know if I got one or not so I can come up with a backup plan if I don't get it.

Any insight appreciated. ❤️

edit/update: You're all so helpful thank-you!!! i also managed to find a 1986 knife locally so I'm getting that to gift him in case the BOTM doesn't come in time or I think he would hate it or it's illegal in Canada. He will have one from his birth year and one from his 40th month!

Weary of Librella

I have a 13.5 year old Bernese/lab mix.

He's been very healthy all his life. I keep him lean and active, but he's old. He is showing signs of osteoarthritis but is still jumping and running as normal. Only accomodations he has needed is carpets on my hardwood/tile.

He's on metacam daily. Zero kidney/liver issues and I get a full "old man" blood panel done every three months. He does have a mitral valve issue but it's minor and he doesn't need meds or restrictions for it.

Vet suggested librella in addition. Said it's "probably time". He had the first shot but she didn't tell me he needed the second shot right at four weeks and he got it at seven weeks so she told me we can't really see how he does on it until he has had two injections four weeks apart. It's been four weeks since his second one (so eleven weeks since his first) and I am really stressing over what the right move is. With both of the other shots he did have some ataxia and rear limb weekends for a week or so after the shot. He was missing steps and stumbling. That's the only time he's ever done that.

He's due for his third (but second, because apparently the first one didn't count) shot today and I don't know what the right move is. I don't want him to be in pain but I also don't want to do something that could impact his currently excellent quality of life.

I wish he could tell me how he feels.

I am also having some scary health struggles (a mass was found in my lung yesterday) and my boy is my life. We escaped domestic abuse together ten years ago and it's just been us ever since so I could use compassion and empathy please.

Buck knife for 40th birthday

Every time we are in a store that sells them (which is a couple times a month at least) my partner goes on about American made buck knives and how awesome they are etc etc.

His 40th is coming up and I'd like to buy him the kind of knife he would never buy himself. My budget is about $400 but I'd like to engrave it so I want to make sure I get it right.

Any insight into what the most coveted knife in that price range would be? Open to spending less too of course. We are in Canada.

About him:

He's a big dude. 6ft2 and 220lbs. Huge hands. Father of three. Millwright. Hunts (deer, bear, turkey) and fishes (bass, walleye, pike, muskie), camps and ATVs. Likes to carry a knife sideways on his belt rather than vertical but I don't think that's a dealbreaker.

Any suggestions? I'm really out of my depth here.

I'm going to have to learn to golf if I want to keep advancing my career.

I know for golfers this may seem like a dream job, but for me it's annoying as hell.

I (40f) am an athletic person. I am very active and it's fairly obvious just to look at me. I hate golf. I love being outside and driving the little carts around and drinking beer but I have zero interest in trying to hit the little ball into the hole. I fully respect the game and realize it takes a ton of skill, I just don't enjoy it.

I am moving into a place in my career where I'm required to attend a lot of industry events/conferences/meetings with folks who are external to my employer. I need to build relationships at these events. Not in a sales way- I do not have clients or customers- it's just an industry where everyone shares learnings and information. Annoyingly, many of these events involve golf.

Right now I'm having to decline the golf portion of the agenda because I don't have shoes or clubs. I do have appropriate clothes because I've run internal golf tournaments before, which is loophole I've found that allows me to be involved and present without playing- but that's not an option for external industry stuff because I'm a guest/participant.

I'm now looking at a promotion and am being sent alone to an industry event which nobody has said is a test, but it's clear it is. I know they want to see how I build relationships. Of course there is an afternoon of golf. There is no alternate option for people who don't want to go but it is technically optional.

Now I'm going to have to buy fucking golf clubs and take lessons and learn how to golf (on my free time when I'd much rather be doing a sport I enjoy) just so that I can be one of the cool kids.

What grinds my gears a little extra is that there are people who CAN'T play golf due to disabilities. Although DEI is still very alive and well in my country- I find this such an "old boys club" way of preventing certain groups from making the same connections that could positively impact their careers. Especially because golf itself is expensive to get into and expensive to play. (And again, my industry isn't about profits or contracts but about learning and sharing- so although salaries are good it's not about money and there isn't a culture of flashy cars or designer clothes or anything like that. It's just the damn golf).

edit: golf bros big mad about this but just down voting instead of commenting 🤣

Won't let me into my account.

My phone died. Trying to get it repaired but dont know yet if I'll be able to.

I need to get back into my Hotmail account. I entered a password from my backup phone and it said too many wrong attempts (or whatever). (This was my first attempt so wtf)

Fine... I reset my password. It sends a code to my phone. All good.

Then it says to add another email. OK fine, I enter my Gmail account (which is already linked). It sends me a code. I enter the code. It says its the wrong code. I triple check... I definitely entered the right code that it emailed me.

Keeps saying wrong code.

OK. So I start from scratch, verify through my phone with a code and then and use my work email instead when it gets to the "add a recovery email" part. (Even though I know I linked my Gmail ages ago) It send a code to my work email. I VERY CAREFULLY enter the code and it says its the wrong code.

I cannot overemphasize how sure I am that in both instances I entered the exact code that was sent to me by email.

I try to account recovery form. As I do not have a photographic memory I do not remember the EXACT subject line of the last emails I sent or the email addressed I sent them to.

Wtf do I do? I have my phone number on there because that's supposed to ensure I can recover my account. I have important things linked to this account and need back in asap.

Im literally having a panic attack please be nice.

Is this driveway done well?

Had my driveway repaved last week and I'm wondering if this is a normal amount of mess to be left afterwards.

My other issue is that it was supposed to be 18ft of parking width for two cars to park side by side (entire reason I did it in the first place) but is only 17ft (including the tapered edges) which I know I'm SOL on, but I can live with it if the paving was done well.

This was a well reviewed family owned local company that my landscaper recommended and is very well known in the area so I feel like maybe I'm being too picky?

I've never had a driveway repaved before so wasn't sure what to expect.

I own a house next to a mowed piece of land. It's land allowance for a railway and not technically a park but children do go there to throw balls and such- which is awesome. Love seeing children playing outside!!!!

Children are constantly losing their balls and toys over my (8ft) fence. No biggie, I always throw whatever I find back over the fence during my weekly lawn mowing.

The issue is that some kids will stand on my porch and ring my doorbell constantly to get me to fetch their balls. This can sometimes happen multiple times a day. I work from home and they've interrupted important meetings. When I'm not working, I'm generally not wearing enough clothes to answer the door in (I'm not walking around naked, but what I wear in the comfort of my home is different than what I'd want to wear to speak with children...)

Today my doorbell and my cameras were going off for about ten minutes solid when I was in a meeting. Then my back yard camera went off and I see children jumping my fence. I have a large senior dog who is half deaf and easily stressed, not to mention the kids could get hurt on the fence itself.

So I step out of the meeting and go out into my yard and tell the kids I want to speak to their parents. The one boy was very nice and gave me his mom's number so I left her a voicemail (I was calm and explained that I can't have kids trespassing). She acted like I was unreasonable for not fetching children's balls on demand and that I left them no choice but to trespass.

AITAH for not answering my door and fetching kids balls that they've lost whenever they want me to?

(I did once put a basket with extra balls and frisbees on the outside of my fence so if they lost a ball they could grab a new one and then I'd put any found balls in the basket when I found them but what ended up happening was that all the balls I bought were stolen after less than a week and the basket was empty)
