Japan Visa From VFS Delhi

Hi everyone! I’m applying for a Japan visa through VFS Delhi and had a few questions. Would really appreciate if anyone who has applied recently could help :)

  1. Do I need to book an appointment before submitting my application at VFS Delhi, or can I just walk in?

  2. For the flight tickets, is it better to get a dummy/flight reservation, or is a screenshot of the airline booking/checkout page showing the flight details and price enough? I don’t want to actually buy the ticket before getting the visa.

  3. How detailed does the Japan itinerary need to be? Do they expect a detailed day-by-day plan, or is it enough to mention the dates, cities, accommodation and what I’ll be doing?

If anyone has applied through VFS Delhi recently, what did you submit for the flight and itinerary, and did VFS ask for anything extra?

In case it's relevant: I'm not a student, nor currently employed. I am selected for a short internship in Japan. Stay and travel during the internship would be covered by the university and personal travel following the internship will be covered by my family (for which I have attached my mother's bank statement with 45L+ INR maintained)

Edit: 2 week internship + 1 week personal travel

Visa category / requirements for Japan visa as an Indian citizen

Hi! I was recently selected for a short internship (2-3 weeks) at the University of Kumamoto. I am planning to apply for visa but I am unsure about the category I should apply for. Short-term Business visa seems to be the most appropriate but they require a certificate of employment and a travel order for employer.I am currently neither employed nor a student. So I am not sure how I can meet these requirements for my visa and I'm afraid I would get rejected. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have attached the list of requirements for reference.

For context, the the university will be covering my air fares and accomodation

Contemplating whether or not I should apply for a PhD at Amity University Noida

Hi! so I've been putting off applying for a PhD at Amity Noida until the last day (today). It is obviously not my first choice but I don't want to waste more time and my reasons for going for a pvt. university is

  1. I don't want to sit for the national exams for govt PhD positions (theory based assessment for PhD positions dont make sense to me, and I'd rather go to a place where they value my work experience and skill set instead of test scores) and

  2. my applications for PhD abroad have not ended well and I have spent 1+ year applying with no positive outcomes.

Is it worth it to apply especially when I haven't prepared for the PhD entrace test?

Ex-PI offered me a position after 1.5 years of unsuccessful applications + Manuscript dilemma

Hey everyone,

For context, I've been applying for PhD positions (mostly in Europe, but also elsewhere) for the past 1.5 years. I've made it to a few interviews, but unfortunately haven't received an offer yet.

Before this, I worked as a research assistant for two years in my ex-PI's lab at Institute A. After I left, the lab at Institute A was dissolved, and my PI moved to Institute B. He's now in the process of starting a second lab at Institute C, which is one of the top research institutes in the country.

I recently reached out to him to ask if he could update my recommendation letter. During that conversation, I also brought up a manuscript from my time in his lab. It's been sitting unpublished for over a year because of various logistical issues on his end.

He said he finally has a clear plan for restructuring the paper, but it would combine work from multiple former lab members. One of those co-authors has completely cut contact since the lab closed, so I'm unsure how realistic it is that this paper will actually get finished. For context, we've already rewritten this manuscript countless times over the years without it ever being submitted.

He also suggested that I write a review article related to the work I did in his lab, which would align with the research direction of his new lab.

Finally, he mentioned that I could join him for a PhD at Institute C. To this, I expressed my concerns regarding clashes in out working styles and timings, he regularly worked very late hours and expected the lab to do the same. He said things would be different this time because he'd mainly be based at Institute B and would only visit Institute C about one week each month.

The research itself genuinely interests me, and after 1.5 years of unsuccessful PhD applications, I'm seriously considering the offer. At the same time, I'm worried about repeating a situation that I already know had some major downsides.

So, Which paper do you think would be worth investing my time in. Given that my applications are anyway going nowhere it would make sense to work on a publication.

Secondly, Would I be making a mistake accepting his offer to join his lab? I'm kinda at my wit's end with the applications and this past year has been especially hard for international students, but I'm also worried about going back to the same cycle.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been in a similar situation

Uppsala University PhD application deadline rigidity

Hey! Are the PhD/RA applications through the varbi portal reviewed on a rolling basis or after the deadline? I'm planning to apply for a position but the deadline is in 2 days, so I'm skeptical if its work putting in the time and energy to put in my application.
