Playing this game for the first time. What am I in for?

Hey guys! I'm a little late to the party here but I'm finally getting around to playing this game I've heard so many good things about.

I played through the first game solo a few years back and 100% the game with all achievements. I'm getting into this game now with a group of 3 other buddies. What are we in for? Will this game be a lot more fun with friends or is it similar to playing solo?

So, I might be addicted to this game and now see why everyone loves it.

Hey guys! So I've been playing this game on Steam Deck and man, I'm loving it! I've barely gotten to Nashkel and I'm already exploring all over the place. I tried playing this game before one time and didn't make it too far...not sure why. However, this time around, its really fun. I think mostly because I get to play it on my Steam Deck.

Honestly, I'm not the type of gamer that usually plays a games campaign more than 2 times at most. I kinda like to try to play through a game, get all the achievements and move on to the next. If I don't get all the achievements in one playthrough, I'll usually play through a 2nd time. This game however, seems like sometimes I would play more than 2 times not only for its replay value but because I love achievement hunting and theres so many in this game that I don't even think I could get them all on 2 playthroughs, let alone 1.

Another thing I love is that its so easy to pick up and play. I commute to work on public transportation everyday so while I'm on the train, I just play for a good 30 minutes, put it down and play another 30 heading back home. Chipping away at it slowly has made it feel like this 50 hour+ campaign is not too bad.

I rolled a Human Neutral Good Fighter. I'm running a Halberd build cuzz I like them even though I've read two handed weapons are kinda bad compared to dual wielding in this game. I am playing on normal difficulty though so I'm sure min/max isn't super important right?

My companions so far are Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Neera and Garrick. I think this party is pretty well rounded. I use Khalid as my tank and I just wail on monsters with my Halberd.

Question for you guys is do you have any stories of how you came to love this game? Did you guys have it in your backlog forever like me and finally decided one day to boot it up? Let me hear some stories. Cheers!

What are we hoping for in the KH Edtion?

Hey guys! I'm wondering what are your thoughts on the Kwisatz Haderach Edition? What do you guys wanna see most in the box?

I just bought an organizer for my GF9 edition to fit everything, including expansions, in the big box and now the KH gets a semi updated announcement...

I'm wondering if much is going to be different and even worth the buy all together.

Here is a list of things I hope that are in the box that will entice me to purchase it:

  1. Updated rulebook. I hope all one off cases, advisor controversy, card explanations, Karama powers etc. all get cleared up with this updated rulebook. I've played a good amount of board games and this is probably the most controversial ruleset I think I've ever dealt with. Although, I've cleared up 90% of cases by asking Discord or looking it up.

  2. I hope they update the dial just a bit. Maybe add a few slots to hold some spice or cards, I'm not sure. I have no clue how they would update it but its really a pain to hold 2-3 cards, spice and the dial all at once while putting it down.

  3. Can we please get one time Karama abilities on the faction cards. I have no idea why this isn't already a thing but please just do it.

  4. New artwork would be nice but its not needed. I think the art style of the base game and the expansions are both very good and don't mind them at all. It would be nice to have them all done by the same artist though and updated slightly. Like I said though, not a big deal since I like it already.

  5. New factions! This is probably the one thing that will make me buy this edition instantly! I'm hoping there are new factions added to the game. 4 would be amazing but I'm sure it would probably just be 2 at most. If there are any factions added, who do you guys think might be added? I'm reading through the books but I'm barely on the God Emperor so I haven't heard much of other factions. Lets hear it from you Dune lords!

  6. Nerfs or buffs to factions! This would be a very interesting change in my opinion. Not one I really want but I know the community thinks certain factions are too strong/weak. Richese maybe getting a few buffs and Ixians maybe getting a few nerfs is just what I've heard from the community. I'm all for balance in games so if people really think the balance for certain factions is off, I'm all for updates.

Thats about it guys! I play with a static group once a month usually and we have been playing for about 2 years straight now. Really fun games all the time, sometimes frustrating but all around, I love this game and plan to keep playing. I'm hoping the KH edition is something worth buying cuzz I most certainly will get it if it is.

Let me hear your thoughts! Cheers!

Twilight Imperium Question

Hey guys! I had a question I wanted to ask that I was curious about.

So I have a group of 6 friends that I play Dune (2019) GF9 edition with every month. That is our main game that we play and I've told them about this game so we are getting ready to play it soon, probably in the next month or two.

My question is for those that have played both of these games. So Dunes ruleset, as most know, can be very loose or not specific enough to the point you have to do research yourself and most of the time resort to asking the community Discord. I'm wondering if TI4 is the same way or is it more tight with the ruleset to where you don't have too many questions after memorizing the rulebook pretty good.

I feel as a host, I'm pretty decent at memorizing the rules of a game and the full rulebook to where I don't need to reference it that much or even at all and can answer 90% of questions asked. However, Dune is different because as we all know, the rulebook is probably the one thing in the 2019 edition that everyone wishes was updated because of how vague it can be, even on top of the 2020 FAQ questions that GF9 released.

So what do you guys think? I'm currently trying to memorize the rulebook for TI4 like the back of my hand and I think I'll be pretty solid going into our first game but I'm wondering if that's going to be enough or is there going to be a lot of "one off" situations like Dune?

Thanks for your input everyone!

First Time Playthrough!

Hey guys, its my first time playing through BG1! Anything I should know other than the basics? I made a Human Fighter and for the most part understand the THAC0 and Armor Class. I know buff, debuff and CC spells are very good in this game so I'll keep my eye out for those.

Planning on playing through BG1, SoD, BG2 and ToB in that order. I think thats the correct order, right?

Also, other than specific timed quests, if I spend in game days exploring and resting without doing the main missions, is that bad? I know for timed quests your companions will say something but other than that, can I just take my time? I have this small feeling I'm being rushed even though there's no actual dialogue saying so.

Right now I have my Human Fighter, Khalid, Jaheira, Imoen, Neera and Garrick in my party. Seems to be doing well. I had Kagain before Garrick and he seems like a good tank but I feel like I had too many fighters in the party so I swapped him for Garrick since I like Khalid and Jaheira together.

When you guys upgrade your armor/weapons, do you usually buy armor first and weapons last? Seems like staying alive is more important since reviving costs so much!

For all the BG1 and BG2 lovers, I like hearing how many times you guys have played a whole playthrough of both games so let me know! Having a blast so far on this adventure. Especially cuzz I can play on PC or my Steam Deck.

Cheers!

Fun Ixian Tactics

Hey guys, I play Dune every month with my buddies and we usually play a 5-6 player game. I've been trying out every faction until I've won at least once with them. I've won at least once with every base game faction, minus Atreides because I hate them. I'm starting to move on to the expansion factions. I kinda get the game plan on how to use Ixians but I was wondering if you guys had any funny scrub killer tactics you can use with Ix that would be hilarious to pull off or just do in a game with them. We always play advanced so let me hear some funny food for thought.

Battle Beast is too cracked

Whats up yall. I just started playing this game and I've improved a good amount for only playing a couple hours a day with friends. One of my buddies uses Battle Beast and I have no idea how to fight against this character. His armor is way too much for me. I play other fighting games and am used to armor getting beat after 2-3 hits but Battle Beast has damn near infinite armor and if he doesn't, he definitely feels like he does. I could be doing anything and his armor beats me. I can be in the middle of a block string and my friend will armor through it. I can call an assist and catch him but he used an armor move so he goes right through it, leading to a happy birthday. I can super but he armored so it doesn't matter. WTF beats armor in this game cuzz it seems like nothing.

I know other characters have armor but BB has the most and its basically frame 1 all the time so how the hell do I beat this?

Started playing again! Hopefully for the last time!

So this is probably my 3rd time coming back to SWtOR. The previous two times I made a character and didn't get too far both times. I think the highest I got was MAYBE 30 at the max but I don't remember being higher than 26-27. I decided to roll a Jedi Knight this time around and I'm enjoying it. The story is solid so far!

I decided to give it another shot because I just bought a Steam Controller and I wanted to try a big range of games with it, including SWtOR (I'll come back to this). I'm hoping I stick with it this time around and get further than I have ever been. I really want to see the full storyline of the game as well as multiple class stories. I also do want to see end game content since I have never seen it before.

I think with me buying the Steam Controller, I'll be much more invested this time around. I installed the game on my Steam Deck and PC so I can play almost anywhere I have internet. I'm also preparing for the Steam Machine release so I can play on my TV as well so I am excited for that!

In regards to controllers, is there anyone that does play with a controller setup? If so, what do you have your controls? I've tried a couple of community layouts for SwtOR through Steam input but I'm not feeling any of them too much. I kinda tried making my own as well but it does take a lot of time to map every button. Anyone have a layout you use and like? I play a lot of Final Fantasy XIV and love the controller setup for that game so I'm trying to map my SWtOR buttons to something similar to FFXIV. Of course, I know SWtOR doesn't have cross hotbars but I'm trying to get a setup that feels similar.

Thanks yall! Can't wait to keep playing!
