Different types of barndos?

So I was visiting my wife’s relatives in Indiana yesterday. Their neighbor has what looks like a warehouse in their backyard. I asked about it and they call it a “barndominium” out here. I’m from New England and hadn’t heard a thing about this residential building trend.

We got to take a look inside and it struck me as something more like a workshop/garage or giant shed and wasn’t primarily a living space. They are building some rudimentary living space inside it. I’d guess it was about 80 feet by 60 feet. Pretty substantial.

Now when I search online for “barndominium” what I generally see are more hybrid-like structures. They are more like a home with the workshop attached. The one I saw is much more like a garage and it’s completely detached from the main house.

So I’m wondering if there is a more specific word for this kind of structure.

What shows did you watch only because nothing was on the other two channels?

I’m going to go with “Love Boat” and “Laverne and Shirley.”

The best part of getting old?

I’ll go first: You can rewatch movies and tv shows you’ve seen before as if it were the first time.

What’s the jazziest Doors song?

Robbie was known to mix in Coltrane’s “Favorite Things” riff and Rothchild famously accused the Doors of sounding like cocktail jazz (maybe the biggest insult ever hurled at a group of rock superstars).

So what’s the jazziest Doors song (without asking ChatGPT)?

Connecting to bluetooth with Air Pods Max 1 is very hit or miss

This problem has grown increasingly worse over the last 2 years. Sometimes the headphones connect with my iPhone right away, sometimes it takes a few tries, sometimes I have to manually connect using the Bluetooth settings, sometimes I have to re-pair, and sometimes getting the headphones into pairing mode takes several aborted attempts. It’s a bummer to go through this when the expectations are for it to “just work.”

The firmware is up to date. My air pods pro 3s work perfectly. So it’s not the phone. The problem seems worse right after they’ve been sitting for a while or right after charging.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas for how I can get the headphones to flawlessly conmect each time?

Anyone else smoking a lot more dope than they used to?

I didn’t smoke pot until I was 23. About a year later panic attack I had while ripping a bong for the first time while listening to “Hits From the Bong”while it was still on the charts and staring at a Cure poster on my stoner roommate’s wall put a big damper on my enthusiasm for the drug.

I’d partake from time to time to be sociable. I was always careful not to do too much otherwise I’d get anxious about triggering another panic attack.

Then I got diagnosed with cancer last year. Fortunately it was a highly curable kind. Still, it was really stressful. I started buying pre-rolls. Had a couple of hits every few days. The joint would last a couple of weeks. “2 hits and 2 beers” was my mantra and it took my worries away.

Then while in Vegas last October I picked up a vape pen. I thought it was great. No having to go outside and hide to take a hit. No lighter needed. No more worrying about how to store my smelly, half-burned joints.

So now I’m puffing on this thing pretty much everyday right after quitting time. The anxiety I felt is greatly diminished as the possibility of a panic attack seems more unlikely and I can enjoy the creative goofy vibes I get from it. If it’s a slow workday I’ll even have a little puff to help take the edge off a monotonous work task (I work for myself). I really love listening to music while buzzed.

Of course my tolerance has gone up. Instead of getting stoned after two hits, I might have 10+ puffs a night. Not sure how much of that is a function of using a vape vs a joint.

But overall it seems to have a positive effect on me. Probably the biggest downside is my wife gets annoyed with my stoner talk. Sometimes I get rambly and slightly manic with delight in an idea. At the same time, I talk with her a lot more and I think she likes that.

I just had my first old man moment

I couldn’t figure out how to stop a Keynote app presentation and I lost my shit and started screaming at my iPhone. Finally figured out I had to pinch the screen to exit.

Please help me track down the old commercial this melody is from and put this ear worm to rest

OK, so woke up in the middle of the night and for some reason had an eerie commercial jingle from decades ago leap into my head. I couldn't figure out which commercial it was from, though, and it's driving me nuts. The melody is very simple and tries to evoke luxury or sophistication, as I recall. I think it might have been for a watch commercial or a car commercial. I'm pretty sure there was a soothing male announcer voice talking about the product, too.

I'm not a musician but I did my best to recreate it and you can listen to a few of the notes here I produced with a synth app that approximates what it sounded like:

Underlying this very basic melody is a slow "boop-boop-beep-boop", rhythm, keeping time.

I think the commercial was from the mid 80s, but it may be as recent as the late 90s or maybe even early 2000s.
