Can you only get the birthday cake by receiving it on your birthday?

I received the birthday cake two days ago and gave it to my favourite Mii. But I want all my Miis to try all of the food. I have about 30 Miis, so if I only get the birthday cake once a year, then it seems ridiculous that I'd have to keep playing the game for 30 years - I may not even be alive by then!

I never receive any messages on my birthday, despite me sending birthday messages to most of my friends on their birthdays. Is there a way that I could have deactivated the notification that tells people it's my birthday? If so, how do I undo that?

I might have deactivated it in the past and forgotten about it, given that my account is nearly 10 years old. If not, I guess it means that my friends just hate me lol
