yoursaintjohn.caNovation Launchkey 61 MK4 vs Arturia KeyLab MK3 for Ableton + live performance?
I’m trying to decide between the Novation Launchkey 61 MK4 and the Arturia KeyLab 61 MK3.
I use Ableton Live, so both seem like great options and the Launchkey especially looks amazing for Ableton integration. The Launchkey is also at basically the perfect price point for me and seems to do almost everything I want.
The one thing holding me back is expression pedal support because the Launchkey only supports sustain pedals, while the KeyLab has expression input and even an aux input.
I’m planning to use this controller both in the studio and for live performance, and I’d really like to use an expression pedal for things like dynamics, filter control, swells, etc. as I grow.
The other reason I’m considering the KeyLab is the supposedly better keybed feel/build quality, but it’s also noticeably more expensive.
For people who’ve used any of both:
- Is the KeyLab 61 MK3 worth the extra cost?
- How big is the difference in keybed feel?
- Would you give up expression pedal support for the tighter Ableton integration on the Launchkey?
- Any regrets with either controller for live use?
Would appreciate any real-world experiences before I pull the trigger.
