Trek Emonda SL5 for $1750?

Trek Emonda SL5 for $1750?

Looking to buy my first road bike for triathlon training and I came across this listing. Is it worth the price? Listing says it’s used less than 100 miles, but I think $1500 will be reasonable?

PS - my height is 6’3”

First bike rec

Hi everyone,

I will appreciate some help in picking my first road bike (planning to use it for atleast the next 5 years to train for triathlons). Here are the final options I have narrowed down to:

  1. XLab RS7 Mech 105 $2100 (online)
  2. Cannondale CAAD13 105 Di2 $2600 (LBS sale)
  3. Cannondale Synapse 5 Carbon Mech 105 $2600 (REI sale)
  4. Orbea Orca M30 Mech 105 $2700 (LBS)

I would love to get the RS7 since that seems to be the best bang for the buck, but none of the bike shops near me have them in stock. I am not a big fan of buying a bike online if I don’t know how the size will fit me.

The other two options are available at a LBS, but I feel like I am “downgrading” with these options since they are either aluminum frames (CAAD13) or alloy wheels (M30). Also, not sure if getting a Di2 is a good option for a first time buyer.

Thank you in advance!

RS7 Sizing question

Hi everyone, I (6’2” height and 37” inseam) am trying to get a RS7 but all the local bike shops near me (Boston) don’t have the bike in stock (and aren’t committing to if/when they will get it and not accepting reservations / deposits).

So, I am thinking of trying my luck online. The problem is I am not sure what size would fit me best. The website says I should go for a XL size frame but I want to get real life opinions.

For those who have the vehicle and are in my height range, does the XL size frame fit you well or did you end up sizing down? I am concerned with placing an order online and getting the bike only to find the size being not a fit for me.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

2018 Cannondale CAAD12 for $1k worth it?

Hi everyone,

Looking for my first road bike for triathlon training (sprints this year and Ironman 70.3 next year) and I came across this listing on FB marketplace.

I am new to biking, but I have heard a lot of rave reviews about CAAD12 here and the CAAD tax.

This vehicle is a 2018 model year with ~300 miles on it, but it doesn’t seem to have disc brakes and wasn’t used much (although it comes with Shimano Ultegra which seems to be better than 105?)

Is it worth the $1k and does it hold up in value? I want to use the bike for the next 5 years at least.

I am also considering the XLab RS5 for $1400 if it’s a better option (since it comes with disc brakes and an integrated power meter).

Used Trek Domane 4.3 for $900. Is it a good deal?

Hi everyone! I am looking to buy my first road bike to train for a sprint triathlon this year and an Ironman 70.3 next year.

I came across this listing on FB marketplace for a used Trek Domane 4.3 for $900. It’s a 2013 model year bike with 10 speed Shimano 105 and rim brakes. The seller said the bike hasn’t been ridden much and they are the second owner.

Thoughts? I personally think it is not worth more than $600 but being new to biking, I don’t know if it’s worth the premium for a Shimano 105 and carbon fiber frame.

Photos attached and here’s a description from the seller -

Trek Domane 4.3C road bike in size 60cm.

This bike has been recently serviced and is in excellent riding condition, ready to go with no maintenance needed.

Recent maintenance completed:

• Chain removed, degreased, thoroughly cleaned, and freshly lubricated
• Cassette degreased and thoroughly cleaned
• New handlebar tape
• Full tune-up completed
• Gears indexed and shifting smoothly
• Fully adjusted and ready to ride

Condition - Used (like new)

Forerunner 965 - good deal?

Kohls has the Forerunner 965 on sale at $499, which is nothing too different from other retailers. But, you can get $100 in Kohls cash which you can redeem for other purchases in Kohls if you have organic spending needs that bring the effective price for the 965 at $399 (I was planning on getting a Garmin HRM anyways which I can do with the Kohls cash). Is it a good deal and worth pulling the trigger on?

For context, I have a 2019 Garmin Instinct which is showing its age (battery life is now lasting only a few days now). I am training to run marathons and possibly triathlons in the future. I also do hike a lot. I want my next watch to also last as long (5-7 years) - so looking to future proof my next purchase.

As an alternative, the Forerunner 265 is also available for an effective price of $299. Is the 965 worth the extra $100?

I will appreciate your thoughts. Thank you 😊

Is this a legit site?

I am looking to upgrade from my Garmin Instinct that I got in 2019 to help me with my marathon training for the upcoming fall season.

I have had the Garmin Forerunner 955 in my radar for a while and was hoping to pull the trigger if the price dropped below $400.

But, it looks like the Forerunner 965 is now on sale at this site called SpokeX for $440. Is this a legit site and is this a new unit or a refurbished one?

Also, do you think it’s better to get the 965 vs the 955 since the 955 is almost 4 years old since release at this point? I am just concerned about long term use going forward.

Thanks in advance!

I was driving and waiting a traffic light when a car behind me hit the rear passenger side of my Tesla Model 3. The damage looks to be minimal -

Pic 1 shows that the edge of the rear right glass of the indicator seems to be scratched (half inch). Also some paint seems to have chipped off the bumper directly underneath (half inch). Pic 2 shows some horizontal white scratches in the rear bumper some 9 inches beneath the glass. Pic3 shows a similar paint chip at the crease (or the fold area) of the bumper area (half inch). All these look minor and I don’t see any bumps or dents.

Also I drove the car and didn’t see any alerts or don’t see any performance issues with parking or autopilot.

Is it worth going through all these hoops with insurance or should I just ignore it? I don’t plan on selling my car anytime soon but I’m worried if filing a claim might impact my insurance rates or my resale value (with a accident claim showing up on carfax) if I ever sell my Tesla.

Any help will be appreciated! Thank you 🙏
