Two different profs told me via word of mouth and through email essentially.

How do I jog their memories when I ask them via email but NOT sound desperate AF.

Hello everybody so basically I am currently a political science masters student, but I really want to go into law or public policy. I am applying this cycle and last year while in undergrad, two professors actually offered to be a letter of recommendation if I so require it.

Now I want to take them up on the offer, but I don’t wanna sound too creepy about remembering every single word they said and I feel bad because I’m applying to two different programs at multiple different school.

How do I go about this?

I feel I don’t have enough going on in my life to write an engaging personal statement 😭

After completing my undergraduate in April, I took about the last four months to study. It has been hard but I have seen improvement and now I am practice testing in the mid 150s.

My goal is to get a high 150s to even a flat 160.
I feel I can possibly reach that goal with a bit more time. Precautionary I have registered for the October exam.

I really want to get it out if the way as I am reapplying again this cycle. But since it is my fourth time 💀 I don’t have the luxury to rush it anymore. The thing is that on September 1st, I will be starting a one year course based Political Science masters program.

I am only taking three courses and work one day a week at my chill retail job. I feel it might be hard but if I concentrate, I can really move up a few more points.

I was wondering what other people have done and if it manageable?

I’m an incoming Social Sciences course-based masters student.

I am 21 and just finished my undergrad back in April. I don’t really have much work experience except for a part-time retail job I have had for more than three years now. I am worried that, due to my age and lack of more formal work experience, I won’t be able to connect with my peers. I mean, I still live at home with my parents and younger siblings (although it is common in my culture) 😭

I am attending the same commuter university in my home city that I did for undergrad. Unfortunately, I never really made any good friends. Which is unfortunate because I think making some friends in the field of future career is a really great thing. Especially as people aren’t as open to becoming friends when entering the work force.

Everyone I have spoken to have said that it is much easier to make friends in graduate school due to the smaller classes sizes.

I was hoping if anyone had any advice on making friends. I am taking 3x classes this term (but one is technically combined with undergrads).

I mean, I still live at home with my parents and younger siblings (although it is common in my culture).

However, I majored in a subsection of Sociology and minored in Political Science (meaning I only took 10 courses in the department). Now, I am starting a one-year, course-based Master's program in Political Science. My courses are small, with between 5–12 people, and are seminar-style (nearly three hours long, meeting once a week). I was also pretty socially awkward at the beginning of my undergrad and, sadly, never really made any good friends at university (I was either alone or hung out with people I already knew).

Now, another layer I want to honestly admit is that an MA in Political Science was never my first choice. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the field and doing research about it. I got all As in every Political Science course I took throughout undergrad. Yet, my main goal has always been law. I applied in my fourth year, but my horrible LSAT score essentially got me rejected from every law school I applied to (I have been studying for months and will hopefully be retesting soon).

I live in Canada, and getting into law school is incredibly competitive, as we have very few schools and seats available. I am going to apply again this cycle, but I really wanted to get a Master's to help me in my job search if law doesn’t work out right away. It is also seen as a good extracurricular at many law schools.

Ultimately, I do love Political Science (I wish I had majored in it), and I graduated from undergrad with honours. I was, and still continue to be, a leader of on-campus clubs, and I have been volunteering with children at my local mosque for years and with a pro bono law organization for the last few years. I will also be TAing in the department this academic year. I know I am supposed to be here, and they did not accept me for no reason.

But still, I am worried about how I am going to build a career from here, make friends in my program, and everything in between. 🥀

I sent a letter of continued interest in both May and end of July, and told me that by the end of August would be the last time for movement

Btw, please release your seat if you have other offers you like better. I’m going crazy :(

This is a policy done across NO other law schools. Not even top corporate law focused schools such as U of T engage in this method of admissions.

The thing that destroys me that there was not warning or anything. Usually substantive admissions changes are proposed 1-2 years before being implemented. This quite frankly came out of nowhere.

I feel so disappointed, I have been working incredibly hard to raise my LSAT score and this averaging of previous scores was a punch to the gut.

Especially being from the province of Alberta and wanting to stay closer to home. U of C law was already pretty insane especially for younger applicants and now this from U of A. I will apply to other places but even out of province schools when push comes to shove will typically prefer to take students more local to the province they are from.

Would a mass email campaign or bring the situation to local news stations do anything?

I understand that a school has every right to designate the process but this was done incredibly poorly and without proper notice.

Also sorry for rambling I just feel like my dreams of becoming of a lawyer keeps hitting wall 😢
