Wasn't a fan of Vijay's Jananayagan movie BUT that is exactly what is happening to our state and it feels........terrifying to witness it in realtime(NOT a movie discussion post)

If you wish to skip the chronology, scroll down to "GET THIS". Most of this post is a rant. It does not discuss the movie but only mentions a scene with relevant context. I use a lot of em dashes — I hope you can manage. TLDR at the end.

I've(24M) lived in my locality(rural) for 15 years and in my city(tier-2 industrial city) all my life. The churches in the locality I've mentioned have existed for over 50 years. Since the appointment of a new church-incharge, one particular RC church that is closest to my house began blasting extremely loud music(upto 110dB — google it) everyday both in the morning and in the evenings. The incharges were a married couple(used to be Pentecost until very recently) who we used to be close with in the beginning but drifted apart as years progressed. I personally contacted them stating that it can cause health issues for most people including pregnant women and new borns along with other added inconveniences for everybody. They barely acknowledged it. It kept going on EVERY SINGLE DAY! I had to do something about it because it started bothering the kid's study time in the evening and because it's 6 cone speakers placed on top of a 65 foot high tower pointing outwards in all directions. Using them rarely or during festive days were fine but operating them daily was completely not!

I approached the parish priest and then the RC Diocese directly — no solid response. Met the subcollector — sounds decrease for two weeks and then back again. Approaching the SP and Collectorate triggered a more formal investigation, the second party was called and they were asked to provide a written statement stating that they shall keep the sounds in check or would face consequences. That kept them in check for another 2 weeks. More complaints to more authorities — only arrogant responses and temporary relief. In the Tahsildar investigation they outright told to the officer they wont provide anymore statements or co-operate with the investigation. Another meeting with the SP and he directed the police to register a FIR and remove the speakers immediately. As luck would have it, the steel ladder for reaching the second level of the church tower was removed by chance and the police were unable to execute the SP's order.

This started Dec 2025, it's Oct 2026 now and the issue is still not entirely resolved although the sound levels have come down significantly(from almost 110dB to 80dB — which is still loud) The Central Pollution Control Board wrote a letter to the District Collector asking him to take care of the issue. Since after that the sound went under 60db (very bearable).

GET THIS:

The consequent week, the SAME GUY who blasts loud sounds in the Church started blasting extremely loud music in the nearby Hindu Temple! This exact same thing happened on Jan 2025 after I complained to the parish priest of the church — he reduced the sounds greatly in the church and played it in the temple! I rushed to the temple(just like last time so that this doesn't become a religious dispute because of the nature of the locality). He had locked the gates of the temple after turning on the speakers and left the vicinity — maybe because he knew I'd come — just like last time. I called the police and a lot happened that evening. I decided to file a complaint in the police station for obvious reasons — one of it being the discovery that 'the guy' informed the church-goersthat we are complaining and demanding that they STOP their prayers and rituals. The SAME guy talked to temple-goers and told them that we are complaining and demanding they STOP their rituals!

Got a lawyer for the next day. While talking to him about the issue he said, "It wasn't this way back then — or even a few years back. But now, for every single occasion a group is blasting loud speakers. For Temple function, for Church function, for Periyar bday, for Kamaraj bday, for Anna bday, for Muthuramalinga Thevar bday, for Krishna Jeyanthi, for MGR bday, for this and that and that! Kamaraj never emphasised his caste but these folks today use his name to celebrate their caste!".

This is when I realised. I've never had to go through all this when I was young. I was a very proud Hindu but my proudest of moments came when I had the opportunity to confidently announce that my father was appointed directly by the district's Bishop(the same RC Diocese) to build schools and CHURCHES(I was 6 years old during this). I was so proud of the fact that a religious leader — of the highest order — offered work to him despite multiple available options in their own religion and caste(yes, caste— that's how it is here) purely out of consideration of the quality of work. I was proud that (some) people of that time were open and accommodating of other's identities and sentiments without..........feeling insecure of theirs.

Cone speakers and simply put, speakers — were available for decades! It is now that the division and the need to establish one's community based identity is highest and most visible in the past 20 years. This is when the scene from Jananayagan movie struck me, of how the antagonist creates internal conflicts within the state by enabling accessibility of weapons(aka tools to self-impose an individual's identity by force after threatening theirs) to citizens. Increasing prominence of this issue leads me to suspect that there isn't one grand John Himler(villain in the movie) but many smaller, more narrow minded Himlers with no grand goal in mind spread throughout the state, promoting hate and division.

Maybe, films are either reality or yearnings of the writer that they wishes were reality in an over dramatised visual form. 'Over-dramatisation' because people have become desensitised over the years. Perhaps that is why most people consider movies older than 50 years to be slow and slightly unentertaining.

Where will we go from here? It started with one church, now it's another temple, it has become another church and another temple(started playing a mantra every 1 hour after announcing the time). Almost 4 different groups playing regularly in a 500m radius on top of several random occasions(like the ones mentioned above). I'm concerned. I'm....simply scared. To live among such......people...just people. To.....I cannot bring myself to write further.

To be frank, until a few lines ago, I was enjoying the flow of my words despite the distress but you can visibly see the uncertainty now. This is how it has become. I have my grandparents at home who we are taking care of. These broadcasts never stopped even during board examinations! An old-aged lady in the locality confided to me and I remember the very words, "Thambi engaluku vayasaaiduchu. Engalaala ethirthu onnum pana mudiyala. Adhunaala ivan ippadi aaduran!".

Almost 11 months, I'm still......fighting. My bigger concern is, where do we go from here? What happens to tomorrow? Will more of...us, create further drift between ourselves? Is this the beginning of the decline...? Is....Phew...

Edit:
It was a rant, I wasn't trying to make a point but there was a comment asking for it, so I'll add it.
TLDR: Community based divisions seem to have gained prominence recently. It will start affect every part of a citizens life. So either educate your kids to be incorruptibly committed to the truth or you get them TF outta here!

Were personal conversations sourced from texting platforms used to train ChatGPT during SFT that makes it produce multiple one liners midway of explanations when it can easily be a coherent sentence/paragraph?

Hello there. I had a hypothesis. I've always been annoyed by the structure that ChatGPT uses to respond to a question. It begins as if it's giving a brief introduction, then there's a divider, a title, more explanation and then suddenly there's unnecessary one liners! (image attached for reference)

It randomly struck, this is the pattern I use when I try to explain something to my friend over chat. I start with a summary and then send 'one-liners', because I'm trying to communicate in full sentences without having to make them wait for an entire paragraph, along with the fact that I'm impatient while I'm typing it.

ChatGPT does this the most when compared to other LLMs. I do understand that during SFT, human labellers create high-quality prompts and responses for the model to be trained on and on top of that synthetic datasets are also used. I also understand that it's potentially impossible to deduce if this pattern of using sequential line-spaced one-liners were prominent in those training inputs. But, is it possible that the dataset it was trained on had a decent majority of text chats, maybe even private conversations(atleast more than other players), that the model trains itself to an extent that it begins using one-liner format to output explainations? OR do you have reasons to think that it is entirely so due to the reason that OpenAI has intentionally tweaked the responses to follow this format?

Is it the data? or the intentional setting? If it's the setting, why does OpenAI do it? Doesn't it annoy you? Isn't it obvious that it's very unnatural to sound that way when one is trying to communicate via text?(I understand the dynamics shift completely if it's a IRL conversation)

If you believe it's the data, do you think it's the open-sourced ones + synthetic + human-labeller conversations that cause it or do you think, private conversations sourced illegally could have contributed to it? Or has ChatGPT learnt, impatience?

Usain Bolt ah vey irunthaalum, oduna thana medal uh?

The sub has been actively talking about Raayan and many Dhanush movies winning National Awards while other considerable well made movies aren’t being recognised by the board.

I was wondering if these ‘well-made’ movies didn’t even enrol in the first place for the NFA(National Film Awards)? The board has a bunch of criteria regarding film submissions(Ive only mentioned a bit in the images, ithu poga enrol panrathuku fees around 15K, last submission date is Oct31 so any film after Nov gets pushed back to the next year; that is, if at all they register; and much more) and they require exhaustive details that most producers might consider not worth the trouble. Besides, the big names are already big names so they don’t need the additional recognition and a 3L rupees cash award is jujibee for them. It definitely could add a feather to their hat but producers are in for the money not the fame. Wikipedia says only around 100 films enrol Nation-wide for these awards every year. Given that there are 5 panels, we could assume that ONLY AROUND 25 Tamil films enrol. Ithellam thaandi, thirupi type of film la compliance and eligibility issues iruku. Athula ethana out aagumo.

So naan enna keka varen na, could it be possible that the other films that receive good public feedback didn’t even enrol for the NFA in the first place and hence aren’t being recognised and that Dhanush na could be the person giving the nudge towards enrolling or even going as far to personally take care of all the formalities himself? (It does seem like he’s that kind of person)

What do you think? Irukalam ah? Possible ah? (Also, I’m just tryna guess and theorise).

Would you feel okay talking to a Voice Agent for booking an appointment?

Just a curious lad. I see people building a lot of voice agents and selling them to small businesses. The top firms in my country have already started to adopt them. I also feel a sense of uncertainty with them. I'm never really sure if the appointment is actually booked or my response has been properly recorded even if the agent says so. I find them impersonal but I'm trying to get a consensus if the people who already understand technology feel the same way as I do.

Well, do you? How okay would you feel, being 'cared-for'(Customer care) by an AI agent to book an appointment for a salon or the dentist.

How comfortable would you be being "cared for" (customer 'care' haha) by an AI voice agent when booking something like a salon or dentist appointment?

What I learnt building voice AI agents for Healthcare and Insurer (data HAD to stay private)

First things first: The body text is AI rephrased(I get nervous putting out writing in public). I work for an open-source platform so there might be slight biases(not sure if there are). (Anything within paranthesis are thoughts, I wrote after draftin)

I spent the last several months building production voice agents for teams that legally cannot ship call audio or transcripts to a third-party cloud. Currently working with a Healthcare and an Insurance company. So compliance is strict.

  1. Latency is a pipeline problem, not a model problem.

Everyone obsesses over which LLM is "smartest." In a phone call, what kills you is round-trip time. Instead of swapping models, I did:
- Stream partial STT results into the LLM instead of waiting for end-of-utterance. [this has started to become the standard in the Voice Agents]
- Use a small, fast model for the first token and only escalate for complex turns.

  1. Speech-to-speech vs cascade was a real tradeoff.

S2S (audio in, audio out) feels more natural and cuts latency, but you lose the clean text checkpoint where you'd log, redact, or apply screens. We needed uditable transcript of every step of the way so we had to pick the slower route.  (so pick based on requirement not the demo?)

  1. Humans are better and we found a loophole!

(I’ve always felt kinda uncomfortable being answered by an AI agent. I wouldn’t even know if my responses are being valued or recorded. And even if they were, I always had this doubt that if they were. So we found a loophole)

For the parts of a call that are always the same (greeting, disclosures, hold messages), we used a human recording. This was a game changed. Customers felt valued. Sounded better. Costs close to nothing. Latency drops to zero! (So much goodness)

  1. The compliance review is the real cost.

For very closed vendor you add is a new security review, a new thing your auditor pokes at. Teams underestimate how much faster shipping goes when the stack is auditable code running inside boundaries you already certified.

I’m just documenting my stuff here. What do you think?

Would you ever consider a Voice Agent answering your customer queries?

Just a curious lad. I remember days when I used to attend 100+ calls when I was solo. Each had different queries that had to be addressed but most were delivery related questions and the answer was always close to, "We've dispatched, you'll probably receive it in a day or two max".

Now, I see people building a lot of voice agents and selling them to small businesses. The top firms in my country have already started to adopt them. I also feel a sense of uncertainty with them. I'm never really sure if the appointment is actually booked or my response has been properly recorded even if the agent says so. I also find them impersonal but I'm trying to get a consensus if people building business feel the same.

Do you think automating such responses is a good thing? How okay would you feel, being 'cared-for'(Customer 'care' haha) by an AI agent to book an appointment or booking a service?

Apple Notes: How to export folder structure as a .md or .txt file?

I wish to export the folder structure as a .md file or a .txt or just copy to clipboard. What is the easiest way to do it? I wish to preserve only the headers and the sub headers that may fall under it. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Something like this maybe:

Is there a restriction on Snapchat My Data Exports? I can't download anything beyond 2024, is the Exports broken? — I've tried a few methods already.

I'm attempting to download all my data from 2020-2026. I have been able to download the memories and chat histories and items from Jun 2024 to till date. I did select 'All Time' during the time of download but I didn't get the full data.

I created another batch where I selected the range from 2024-2023 but surprisingly, broken and incoherent data from 2026-2025 mid was downloaded.

- I've tried doing the same via mobile app and on Google Chrome on desktop.
- I've used the toggle function while selecting the data range. I've also used 'All time'. I've also tried selecting a date range.

I don't understand why this is happening. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I read a Tamil book and instead of wrapping it up with முடிவு(pronounced Mudivu; which means 'The End') the writer used நிறைந்தது(pronounced Niraindhadhu; which means 'it has completed because it is full'. It conveys a sense of completion with fullness and fulfilment. Like the thing became everything it was supposed to be. It also carries the idea of 'this has arrived at its whole form' instead of 'this is finished').

It's a subtle but important difference. "The end" in English feels like termination as if something stopped abruptly. But 'Niraivu' feels like a calm closing.

Is there a single English word or a very short phrase that captures this that can be used at the end of a book or writing?

Words that I'm not looking for: Finished. Over. Done. Completed(feels like a chore). Anything that doesn't hint exhaustion, abrupt termination while signalling the idea of 'whole'

I think I've given enough context, feel free to ask me for more in the comments if required.

Would love to hear from anyone who has thought about this! Thanks :))
