What’s your Favorite Violin Concerto?
For me my top 5 would be:
Tchaikovsky (mainly because it was the first classical piece I fell in love with.)
Sibelius
Beethoven
Brahms
Weinawski 2
HM: Bruch 1, Paganini 1, Dvorak and Weinawski 1.

I was listening and there’s a part in Beethoven 2.1 that is identical to 9.1. Is a reason for this?
This is a follow up to my previous post about going to Bruckners 8th symphony at the NYPHIL.
I also have the opportunity to go to Tanglewood in August and see:
BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 6, Pastoral
Allison LOGGINS-HULL Rhapsody on a Theme by Joni, for flute and orchestra
COPLAND El Salón México
TCHAIKOVSKY 1812 Overture.
If you could choose Bruckner 8th, or the Tanglewood concert, which would you choose? I'm having trouble deciding.
Tickets are always expensive at the NYPHIL and I would be buying 3 tickets, the program says they are only performing Bruckners 8th. I must admit that I don't know much about Bruckners works and have never heard his 8th, is it worth it to go and hear it?
I enjoyed the symphony immensely, however I didn’t quite understand it. The Choral movements especially felt out of place. The first, third and last movements felt more appropriate to me for a Mahler Symphony. Am I the only person who feels this way?
Most of the time you can tell where a composer is from based of the music, for example, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky are distinct Russian sounding music. To my knowledge there is no “American” sounding music pre 1920’s. Why is that?
I was curious about pre Baroque era composers and wanted to explore some of the music but don’t know where to start.
