Considering a move

I’m relocating to the area soon and I’ve been considering Bremerton for renting. I haven’t formally accepted a job offer yet but they are all in downtown Seattle. However, I have one opportunity in Silverdale (with lower pay).

My question is about the area. Are there any areas to avoid? For reference, I’m a 35 F with a 14 yr old daughter.

How is the high school? I’m reading alot of mixed reviews online.

Any advice is appreciated! :)

Am I making a mistake?

I (35F) have about 45k in savings. I currently live in Indiana with my 14 yo daughter. We hate it here. She struggles finding friends due to more alternative fashion and interest. She’s indicated that she would like to go to school in Washington for college.

I feel like the job market and wages here are limiting, though the cost of living is affordable. I am in college studying legal studies and work in the legal field. Jobs around here hover around ~50k.

I lived in the Seattle area in 2018 and have always wanted to go back to the area. I am a little apprehensive about taking the dive with my daughter and making the move with my savings. But I feel like taking the risk now could set her up for a better future.

For reference, we have talked about making some sacrifices regarding our quality of living, but are both willing to do so to get out of this area. We live pretty minimally and don’t require too much to be happy. We also don’t plan to live directly in Seattle. We would just like to be in the general vicinity.

I’m a bit fearful about making such a dramatic move on my own, so I would love some insight from others who have made the move.

Looking at a potential move!

Hello everyone,

I (35F) am beginning to plan my move to the Seattle area (projected timeline for relocation: Feb 2027, but flexible depending on housing and job). It will be me, my daughter (14), and our cat. I previously lived in Seattle in 2018, but did not spend much time in Shoreline. This time around, it has been highly suggested for us. My daughter is very smart and creative, so a good school and safety is very important to us.

My questions are: is it possible to rent a 2BR decent (no frills) apartment for under $2500? Is it a competitive market?

My daughter leans a bit more alternative in fashion and interests. Would she have a difficult time making friends in this area?

I work in the legal support field (medical malpractice, real estate) does anyone have any insight to the job market for this area?

Additionally, if anyone would like to network or knows someone with a rental property, etc please feel free to DM me! I’d love to connect with locals prior to our move.
