do these type of cover damage the screen?

I was specifically looking for a cover without one of these strap things, and the one I was send has one anyway. Honestly hate it the cover, and that strap in particular but the other one I ordered is not arriving for another two weeks. it doesn't touch the screen when closed unless there's pressure put on it and since I plan to be taking it with me, there'll be things in my bag that will inevitably smoosh it in.

Do the ones with the clear back get yellow eventually?

Floor living with dogs

Any suggestions for preventing beds on laminated floors from slipping all over the place when my big dogs get the zooms or wrestle? I already have wood slats with non-slip pads under them but they’re not helping much.

Also would love some suggestions for a couch alternative that would be easy to keep clean and covers that I can easily wash. I keep my place clean, bathe the dogs and wipe their paws daily but it’s hard to avoid all normal dog messiness, sometimes just throwing blankets over things isn’t enough

Insane shedding help

He saw his vet last Wednesday, I’m getting ready to schedule a recheck.

He didn’t have the greatest coat or skin when I brought him home in nearly July- dry, patchy, lots of dandruff but he wasn’t really shedding. Then I started him on Purina sensitive skin and stomach and he had some kind of allergic reaction to it, he started biting at himself and his hair started shedding, though not to this degree. A week and a half ago I switched him to Open Farm Venisons ancient grains and the shedding got even worse. His skin is looking better, not dry or flaky anymore but his hair has thinned out so much. He is not scratching, licking or biting at himself. It is growing back where it thinned out first, but it’s still falling off on an insane rate. His vet seemed to agree initially that it might be related to the food (our other dog had a much worse reaction to the same food) and suggested I tried giving him a medicated bath with an antibacterial and antifungal shampoo, but that didn’t seem to do anything. It is not contagious, he’s around 5 other dogs and the others aren’t have any issues. He had a Nextgard pill last Wednesday and started in fluoxetine on Saturday. I feel if I tried to use a deshedding brush on him, he’d end up naked with how easy the fair is just pulling out.

Any ideas? He has a very sensitive stomach so giving him fish oil is not possible.

Any options for rescue or someone that might have the experience to take him on?

Going to ask for gentle comments please, I'm crushed to be making this post. I've been crying all weekend and haven't been able to sleep trying to find options and make a final decision. I know that I'm not equipped to deal with this- my sister is understandably scared of him now and won't come into the house if he's there anymore which leaves me with zero help for the times when I cannot take him with me. I cannot risk having Toshi around my clients, their kids or their dogs just in case this ever happens again. If it was just the separation anxiety it wouldn't be a problem, that I have experience with and can work with. I've made the decision to take a few days off work to be home with him and return him the shelter on Thursday, where he's going on bite quarantine and more than likely being put down after. I'm utterly heartbroken and feel like I've failed him.

On Friday while my sister was over visiting and we were making dinner she reached for an ice tray on the counter, stepping between me, Toshi and my other dog that were like two feet behind me. Toshi jumped to bite her wrist, then went for her belly twice, each time holding and shaking. Thankfully, he got her watch so it was only bruising on her wrist, but he did superficially break the skin and left bruises on her belly as well as a tear on her shirt. My back was to them so I don't know what his body language said, though my sister insists that he didn't give any warning signs. There was no growling, she wasn't holding food (neither was I, I was rinsing a water bottle), teasing him, or even holding eye contact. She was just lifting her hand up towards the counter rather than down towards him. She hadn't touched him or stepped on him. He knows her, has spend so much time alone with her, had just been begging for affection and laying his head on her lap a few minutes before.

Prior to this, the last couple days he'd also gone from being completely calm around people walking by my work van and even enjoying attention from my clients coming up to him to various degrees of lunging and barking at anyone that got near it. For the past two and a half weeks he hadn't given any single sign at all of any potential aggression, reactiveness, or resource guarding. I can do pretty much anything to him and he doesn't care- I've taken food and toys right out of his mouth multiple times and he's been learning 'wait' and 'eat' so he's stopped diving into his food bowl before it's even fully put on the floor. I've taken him everywhere with me, he's been in crowded stores, busy streets, in the van around construction workers and landscapers for hours at a time while I'm working in the back- zero issues. His last foster that had him a few days had the same experience, she took him everywhere including the gym and he did great around people and around her own small dog.

I've reached out to a breed rescue but was told they wouldn't be able to take him on due to the bite history and said more than likely no other rescue would either because there are so many other dogs needing help already in the shelters. I know the shelter wouldn't be able to put him back up for adoption, and he'd already been there for so long I don't think any rescues that already work with them would pull him even if was made available to rescue. I'm holding out a little bit of hope that maybe I can find someone else that has the experience and is able to work with him. He is an amazing and sweet dog otherwise, I personally don't feel at all scared of him or feel that he would hurt me, he is extremely attached to me, is very affectionate and eager to please. He's your typical big baby, sleeps in bed at night and likes to be tucked in, comes to check on me every so often when I'm working at my desk and sticks his head under my arm to ask for pets. He's been doing great with my 50lb dobie mix and my 10lb senior fragile senior girl. If anyone might be able to help or has any good suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. I'm in the SF Bay area and would be willing to drive a couple hours if it meant he'd end up in a good, safe home or rescue.

I brought the shelter dobie home

And the last three weeks have been a roller coaster 😂 it took 15 whole days from the day I brought him home to the day he finally had a normal 💩 his weight ended up around 55lb from the original 72lbs he was when he was surrendered (though he did loose about 10lbs at the shelter too). He’s doing much better and slowly gaining weight back as he’s transitioned back to a normal diet. The boy is nuts about food and counter surfing, so that’s been interesting too. He has anxiety like no other dog I’ve ever had before, I can’t be out of his sight for more than a few mins before he starts barking like an asthmatic seal and pulling things off the book shelf. Still, no regrets, he is the sweetest dog and things are going great with him and my two other dogs.

I am struggling with his peeing all over himself though, he smells like pee all the time even when I’m wiping him down with baby wipes when we come back inside. His paws seem to just absorb and hold onto the smell, I’ve done a couple of chlorhexdine shampoo soaks as well as just regular shampoo and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. When he pees it just splatters all over and he ends up with droplets of it on all four legs/feet. I’ve never had this issue with male dogs before- but I also haven’t had a dog this large/tall before. Any suggestions? It’s driving me crazy that even his face smells like pee because he likes to sleep with his face tucked into his paws.

ETA - if anyone is considering adopting, there's still another dobie at that same shelter that's been there since May too, she sounds like an amazing dog and has me wishing I had the space, time and money for a 4th one ❤️ the adoption fee is still just $20

Where can I find this specific leash?

I bought it at petco well over a decade ago, it’s so flexible and soft, I think it’s made of hemp with the suede stripe. It had a matching collar sold separately. This is the only thing I kept from my first dog, it’s been put away since he passed and recently had to pull it out for emergency use and reminded me all over again how much I loved it lol it’s probably my favorite leash ever and I’ve been through so many. I can’t find any leads on google even searching the image (pic in comments)

SF Bay Area people!

I’m tentatively looking for a second dobie/dobie mix to join my current mixed one and I meet this sweet gentleman at Oakland Animal Services today. His name is Princeton and he is SO gentle, sweet, polite and did amazing when introduced to my 14 year old tiny dog. His adoption fee is a whole $20, already vaccinated and fixed. I was told he was an owner surrender from someone that was moving and couldn’t take their dogs, he came to the shelter in May with another dobbie that has already been adopted. I think he’s sad and looking skinnier than the original shelter pictures. He is bonding to the volunteers and staff so he is not showing so well and coming off across as shy/uninterested in potential adopters. He is just a year and a half old and has so much potential with the right family that knows these dogs. I’m really thinking about going back next Sunday to see how he does with my 2 year old girl, I’m thinking if he’s still there and they do well it’s mean to be- but if anyone else feels they might be able to give him a great home, go meet him! The volunteers were so incredibly nice and helpful.

Walking time

Truthfully and realistically, how long are your walks with your dobbies on an average day? how much longer/shorter is that than what you think your dog should ideally be getting walked?

My girls gets between 30, 45 mins max around my neighborhood most days, I go at her pace and most of that is just her sniffing around. She is very nose oriented and it's her favorite thing. I think ideally to actually tired her out we should be doing twice that, but my own health issues prevent me from taking longer walks, instead I supplement with a lot of play at home. Fetching balls/toys and her flirt pole is our main way of getting her to run around at home.

Depositing money at the bank?

I’m in the US and haven’t been back there in decades, so excuse the potentially dumb question.

My dad passed away two months ago, he lived here too but would visit Peru every year or so. He worked there for many years so he received a pension at a bank, he gave a trusted family member there access to help facilitate transfers. We haven’t notified the consulate here about my dad’s passing yet so it hasn’t been registered in Peru, the account is still open and money is still being deposited- frankly I have so much going on I completely forgot about this.

The relative with access to it ended up withdrawing most of the money without asking us first today and now I’m in the pickle that I’m sure the government will want at least the money they deposited after my dad passed back, same Social Security did here. He is claiming that there is no way that he can deposit the money back, that he’d need power of attorney letters and who knows what else. I’m thinking that is absolute BS. I would have assumed that withdrawing the money would’ve have been the difficult part, not making a deposit back. Is this true??

Also, would the government want only the money deposited post death back, or all of it that was in the savings account deposited prior to his death? I don’t want to be held responsible for paying back that money after it’s been spent.

Okay to use as a fishtank?

edit - giving up on the fish tank idea, going to get an actual tank meant to hold water. thanks!

I was given two of these reptile tanks that are 12x24x9, one I’m planning to hold onto to use when my baby tarantula gets large enough but was toying with the idea of setting up the second tank for either adf or shrimp, would it be okay to fill these up with water for long term use or are these only meant for reptiles? The glass seems just a smidge thinner than a 10g tank (3mm) and there isn’t as much silicone joining the glass panels (have not yet tested if either leak)

Is this actually leca?

I’ve never used leca before. I was gifted a big bag of this, I rinsed it out and left it soaking in water with some nutrients two nights ago but it doesn’t to be soaking it in? Water level hasn’t gone down and some of the balls are just floating

Getting a 2nd dog when the first one is already pretty needy?

My girl is only half dobie, but she leans on that half very heavily. I’ve never meet a dog so needy and clingy, she is the sweetest thing and I love her so much but sometimes worry she is not getting everything she needs. She is two years old and I’ve had her since she was a puppy, she’s calmed down a lot from the crazy puppy stage but is still pretty high energy. She is still too much for my other two special needs senior girls that tolerate her but won’t play with her- they just want to go on short walks and sleep. I’m seriously considering adopting another dog that can match her energy, I really want a second dobie or dobie mix but I’m worried that she might react negatively with a second that that’s also likely to be clingy? My other two are pretty independent and don’t compete for my attention with her at all. I would be looking at another adult rather than a puppy, likely a shelter dog since they pop up in my local shelters so often. How terrible of an idea is this?

truck stalling when turning?

My 2001 truck turns itself off when turning the wheels all the way and holding that position for a while, drives fine the rest of the time and it's only been a problem when I'm been stuck at a stop sign trying to make a turn. What could be wrong and is it going to be an expensive fix? :( I just put a new battery in it, all fluids are topped off, had an oil change maybe two month ago but it's barely been driven.

2001 truck, how to fix this?

I inherited my dad’s truck, everything seems to be working fine and the interior is in pretty good shape other than the headliner starting to peel off at the edges and this one thing that won’t stay closed. How do I fix it, is a part broken or missing?

My sister and I share a house that’s oddly divided, her living room and mine are connected by a regular door right in the middle of the wall. Removing the door and sealing up the wall properly isn’t an option, any suggestions for some heavy duty noise dampening? I saw some textured foam squares on Amazon, are those any good? Doesn’t matter how it looks, I was planning on covering the door with some large wall hanging. Thinking about backing a bookshelf to cover the door too but would prefer to have that potential emergency exit access.
