Are there any "Trails-like" games out there?

Big fan of Trails series. I love its world building and the team's commitment to long-form storytelling.

I've always considered Trails a visual novel in a trench-coat. Great stories, great characters, great gameplay, great music. It's basically a VN in 3D visuals.

I struggle to think of any game that are Trails-like. I feel that's what makes the series so unique in that regard.

Thoughts?

Does anyone know of any similar games they played that captures the similar commitment to long-term story telling as Trails?

I really like Quatre

Out of the cast of playable characters, Quatre stood out.

I really appreciate his determination, and his willingness to help. It's a different flavour from what we're used to. We see determination in some form of shonen brovado. But Quatre's feels more subdued - borne from genuine care.

I think part of it is the discrimination he faced. There are scenes where adults would look down on him for not acting like a traditional man. Even Van have made some borderline insensitive comments about Quatre's gender.

Given all this, I really appreciate his courage. I really like how Quatre looks up to the older scientists, regarding them as part of his family - even if they are assholes to him sometimes.

I also like Quatre's design. His hair especially. I dont know how Falcom is able to make his hair look feminine and masculine simultaneously - but they did it. Whoever designed Quatre must have taken a lot of time to get it just right.

There are a few Trails character where it triggers a paternal instinct within me to protect them at all cost. KeA was one of them. And I feel that Quatre is becoming one of them too.

I look forward to see his growth in DB2!

No spoilers. What can I expect from Daybreak 2?

I beat Daybreak 1 not too long ago, took a break and am wondering about jumping into Daybreak 2.

Without spoilers, what can I expect from this game?
