[IIL] In the Court of King Crimson (music)

I just relistened to In the Court of King Crimson for the first time in almost two decades and loved it. I was really impressed with the softer songs like I Talk To The Wind and Moonchild. The closest album I can think to these songs is Pink Floyd's Meddle. Does anyone have recommendations? Album doesn't need to have long songs

Any advice for getting that 60's/70's Prog Mellotron sound out of an analog synth?

I've been trying to expand my Prog Rock knowledge lately and I just listened to both the albums Aqualung by Jethro Tull and In the Court of King Crimson by King Crimson. Both the songs Epitaph by King Crimson and the intro to Cross Eyed Mary by Jethro Tull feature a Mellotron. I really enjoy the sound and want to try an replicate it the best I can on my Prophet Rev 2. Does anyone have any advice or tutorials?

Any advice/tips for someone not enjoying their Minifreak?

Hello! Long story short, I traded in my Microfreak for a Minifreak and as the time went on I very much don't enjoy it. My current set-up is a Prophet Rev2, Korg Monologue, Drumbrute Impact, SP404 MK2 Sampler, and the Minifreak.

I know the Mini is digital compared to the mostly analog gear but it's always the most difficult piece of gear to fit in with everything else on a track. I mostly play rock, synthpop, folk, blues/jazz and the presets for the Mini MIGHT be helpful for EDM but I find a majority of them to not be very musical and something that would get me laughed out of a room if I brought it to a band practice, as most of the presets sounds more like sound effects.

I've tried making my own sounds but most of them are just a variation of using the basic waves osc and the superwaves osc to make an easy pad or lead, or I'll pair one of the sample oscillators with another osc, usually basic waves or superwaves. Obviously I add a bit of mod to the lfos and such to give it some movement, but the leads usually don't sound anywhere near as good as the Monologue and the pad can't compare to my Prophet.

I knew it was bad when I went into a music store and saw a basic synth from the 80's called a Yamaha SK15 String Ensemble and despite it having no Arp/Seq/Presets I very much considered trading my Minifreak in for it. I went home and researched digital synths and I really liked the Hydrasynth Deluxe (love the option to layer two patches like the Prophet Rev2) but its way too big.

So I guess my looking for advice. Do I sell it or do I keep it and learn it better? Does anyone have any advice for patch design with it, Oscillators settings, Mod Matrix tips, etc. What does the Minifreak really excel at?

What hardware synths excel at making beautiful and soft sounds

I'm not in the market for a new synthesizer but I was playing my Prophet Rev2 last night and I was really just amazed how beautiful it can sound even in the hands of a dumbass like me. I love aggressive synth music as much as everyone else here but at the end of the day my real passion is making beautiful folk music like Joanna Newsom, Weyes Blood, The Band, Neil Young etc.

I'm curious if theres any other synths out there that excel in more subtle, soft, and beautiful sounds.

Basic analog synth patch ideas to get started on patch making/sound design

I've been doing the synth thing for a bit over a year now. My main focus is composing and performing. I'll usually start with a preset and then tweak it to something I like, then write a song from there.

Lately I've been really into writing songs by setting all three of my synths (Prophet Rev2, Minifreak, Korg Monologue) to a blank patch, design the sound for all three, and then composing. I find it the easiest on the Monologue with how basic it is and the Minifreak can be fairly easy to navigate.

I'd really like more basic/simple patch ideas for my Prophet Rev2 or just any analog synth in general. It's a beautiful sounding instrument that I know is capable of some amazing sounds, but until I really start learning it's ins and outs through practice does seem kind of overwhelming.

Does anyone have any good basic/simple patch ideas or links to sites with them? I'm really trying to use this as a learning experience and not just buy a patch bank.

I've been on a huge Folk/Folk Rock kick and looking for more song and albums that sound like Going To California by Led Zeppelin. I love artists like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Joanna Newsom, Tom Waits, John Lennon, The Band, etc

Switched out my Gigabyte motherboard for a Rog Strix B650-A and can't get any sound through my monitor

Hello, I'm been noodling around with this in my free time for a few days and I can't figure out the issue. I have my PC connected to my TV through the GPU hdmi port. I accidentally bricked my old Gigabyte mobo in the bios settings trying to turn CSM off. Anyway I have the new motherboard in and as far as I can tell everythings up to date on the drivers and working correctly, execpt there's no sound. I've also reinstall my GPU drivers. Ive connected my headphones into the jack on the front of the PC and the sound works perfectly that way, just not through my GPUs hdmi port.

Does anyone have troubleshooting tips to help? Thanks

Any general advice for making piano/e-piano patches?

I have an analog synth (Rev2) and I'm curious how someone would go about making more simplistic sounds like a piano, e-piano, organ, a rhodes, etc. Any general advice about settings would be great, thanks!
