Neighbors in my business ALWAYS

I’ll try to keep it short. I’m just irritated. Husband and I moved to a new town for his work. About 3 hours away from our old place. Renting a nice townhouse in a quiet neighborhood. I’m still looking for a job, but taking my time as it’s not a huge rush. I leave the house everyday either to take my husband lunch or run errands.

Landlord (who lives in the townhouse adjacent to us) has texted me about “what am I up to” basically. She called my husband AT WORK to ask HIM if I was working or if something was wrong with my car because “it’s here a lot of the time.”

People around town & church (we all live in the same two neighborhoods) have stopped me in the grocery store asking “what are you doing? Why aren’t you at work?” when THEY are ALSO IN THE STORE AT 8 AM ON A TUESDAY!!!!!!

I’m substitute teaching part-time while I look for a steady gig, and I’m taking classes at night at the local CC to update my teaching cert, but WHY do I have to explain that to anyone???!!! I’m going berserk. I get asked about working/having a job/what I’m doing with my time EVERYDAY!!!!!!

Like damn…can’t a girl read a book on her porch??? My husband pays the bills!!! Wtf!!!!!

It’s that time… Kelly sub notifications spamming my phone

I’m a certified teacher, but I am leaving the field, so I’m just subbing some while I’m back in school. Schools in my area started around mid-July and it’s been pretty quiet. I’ve worked about 4 days so far and 2 of those were half-day.

Look at what’s happened today! 42 available jobs!!! The Sunday before the one month mark at most schools here. It’s begun.

For context, there were about 4 assignments visible to me last night. Anybody else seeing this as we really get into the swing of things??? PLUS, at least 20 of these have been here since this morning. So, no one’s biting.

80s/90s towel or blanket with crocodile in a pirate hat

A friend of mine is looking for a replacement of her childhood blanket. She was bitten by a dog as a kid and the blanket (with bodily evidence on it) was kept by the hospital she went to.

She says it was white with a crocodile or alligator on it (maybe Christopher Crocodile) and he may have been wearing a pirate hat or something similar on his head. I don’t think the character was repeating, so it would have just been the one picture on it. She describes it as being kind of like a “napkin”, so maybe not full blanket or throw size, and maybe more like a towel size. But again, this was when she was a kid in the 90s so memory could be skewed there.

I’m not exactly hoping for the very one she had, but something similar would be great! Thanks so much and we love you!

Will they sniff me out? Unbelieving wife of a Youth Pastor

Very lost and losing sleep over this. Husband and I have been married for a little over 3 years. He started a new job recently as a Youth Pastor/Worship Leader. Previously he had a job as a Logistics Broker (he made good money and I was able to quit working full time).

Now, we are relocated a few hours away from our old home, in a new town, and no (not church related) friends yet. I am not religious at all. I have no desire or need to worship in anything. When we met, he was freshly divorced and did not attend church. Simply put, I was raised Catholic and his father is a Minister, so I thought we had a major thing in common by both rejecting the ways we were brought up. Over time, he decided he believed, which is fine, I feel like everyone should have the choice to do what makes sense to them. I didn’t think we’d ever even talk about it.

The last year has been a huge shift for us. He started playing with a church worship team for fun, which then turned into a part-time position, which progressed into him leaving his sales job (we both agreed he should look into a different industry) and then him accepting this position.

I have zero interest in attending church. I left teaching last year because I realized I don’t like kids enough to spend all my time around them. I don’t like eating food I can’t see prepared myself. We’ve already been invited to so many lunches because we’re “new” and everyone wants to meet us. Now I know I’m going to come off strange because I won’t eat what these people serve. I don’t like “sitting with the women” and talking about kids or cooking or church or community events or any of that pedantic stuff that fills polite table talk.

The most interested I’ve been in a conversation in about 3 weeks has been bringing up a true crime documentary and immediately realizing that these ladies spell out words like “murder” and “killing” aloud letter by letter to avoid saying them. It’s maddening and infantile and I can feel my energy just exiting left. I’m assuming already that I will try to go back to work, maybe even two jobs to keep me busy.

How will I live among these people? What should I do to make this bearable for me and not disappoint my husband? I want him to be happy more than anything, but I know I will not ever be close to happy as a Pastor’s wife. Hardcore southern Global Methodists, somehow they are even less fun than Catholics. Advice appreciated.

Just got off Getaway 4-Day Miami, GSC, Bahamas

Went on anniversary trip with husband. Ship was INCREDIBLY packed. Our room attendant told us there were 4,700 guests. We didn’t ask him this, he just told us as we were coming back to our room after lunch on Great Stirrup Cay day. We didn’t leave the ship there or at Nassau because they just didn’t seem worth it to us.

We were mostly just there to enjoy a few days away from home. Overall, food was pretty lackluster. My husband was SO sad that the pizzas were all like…limp. The pork sliders at the American Diner were pretty good, but nothing else stood out. We are not big drinkers, and that was a good thing because the lines were all long. We went to the first night show of Dueling Pianos (mostly old white people music sung in the same monotone/cadence for FOUR hours) and my husband waited for two drinks for about 40 minutes.

There were unattended children EVERYWHERE. I love kids and I love when people take them on vacation because they deserve to see the world, too, BUT my husband and I both were concerned because there were so many small kids just wandering around, no parents, covered in sunburns and dirty.

Besides talking to us EVERY TIME he saw us, our room attendant was great!!! Our stateroom was super clean and stocked well. We also enjoyed the Water Front, and walked it several times as it always had some empty seats and was pretty isolated from the crowds elsewhere. We tried for lounge chairs multiple times for some tanning, but were never able to get one. They were always full of people, or people’s stuff (and NO, I’m not moving other people’s things because that’s too close to touching THEM, which would drive me insane).

The shows sucked, plains and simple. Drunk people singing karaoke. Drunk people or kids smelling like pool water bunched up playing bingo. Every “free” gift came with a sales pitch. “Eco-friendly” please reuse your towels messages, but also here’s 5 sheets of paper delivered to you everyday advertising stuff we want you to buy.

Our steward let us know that this is the perfect time to visit GSC because after September there will be no less than 2 ships docking all the time, so there would be like 10,000 people on that little island. Overall, 2/10.
