Ti knives similar to CRK

I’m liking the shape and size of the Inkosi handle, and how deeply the blade tucks in. Just curious if there are others with the same kind of vibe going on. Obviously other CRK’s are close. And the other knife that comes to mind is the Piratech Kraken. What other similar Ti knives are out there?

Vertigo for 3+ weeks - need some help

Long term Addison’s coming for help with a new symptom. I can’t prove it’s related to the Addison’s, but in my experience, most things lead back here. Went on a canoe trip over 3 weeks ago. Ever since, I’ve had vertigo day and night. It goes from light to medium, but always “there.” And it’s getting OLD! It’s a distinctly different feeling from the lightheadedness we sometimes get standing up too quickly. This is a distinct feeling of floating/bouncing around in waves. Dr gave me meclizine and told me to take Flonase, both of which did absolutely nothing. I am going in for vestibular therapy next week.

Anyone been here? Did anything help? Was it related to the Addison’s?

Thanks for reading!

Attention to Detail

Still honeymooning this one (it’s going to get used soon enough). But just look at the attention to detail. The line of the grind extends into the swedge (is that the right term?), and the spine follows the grind line down to the tip. Artistry!

Tidioute / GEC identification

EDIT - thanks all! Really appreciate your helpfulness. Identified as 681211 White Owl in Mexican Bocote from 2011. Happy to be able to catalog this more completely in my collection.

Got this knife I’m guessing 15+ yrs ago. Was the first knife I purchased for myself after inheriting my grandfather’s collection. Wasn’t really an “informed” purchase - I was just getting into knives at the time and didn’t have the foresight to keep the packaging. I’m reasonably certain it’s zebra wood. Could anyone tell me what the model number or pattern name might be? I’m going to get a small leather pouch for it and add it back to the carry rotation.

MIM or 6G Clip (Large Inkosi)?

These two seem to get good reviews. 6G is quite pricey but I do like the rounded tip. Any experience with these?

Sandblast Texture

Received my first CRK in the mail today. Large Inkosi Insingo. Everything looks great but the sandblast texture is chalkier than I was expecting. Can I expect this to smooth out with use? Any tips?

The humble Sendy

Don’t see many people talking about this one. So easy to carry and the unique flipper works great (especially using your thumb like a lighter). A (sort of) modern interpretation of the classic Barlow. Designed by what seems like a genuinely nice dude. The SAK-esque tools are somewhat gimmicky, but they don’t get in the way of anything. And it’s not causing any alarms at the ole workplace. It’s going to get a good sharpening this weekend. My kid made the lanyard for me.

Bugout - long term opinion

Plain ole 535 Bugout. Purchased in late 2017/early 2018 for something like $120. Yes, it feels cheap. Yes, it’s overpriced now (and was even back then). Yes, I’ve thought about modding it extensively. And I have thought about selling it. But I just can’t do it. For what it is, and its intended purpose (is that enough of a disclaimer), it’s kinda perfect.

Ultra lightweight, great summer carry with shorts, perfect balance, super slicy , and the ergos are such that you just forget it’s there. It’s gone through the wash a couple times for that very reason.

I’m a steel nerd, but S30v is just fine for 99% of us - let’s be real

Axis lock - people love it or hate it, and it’s definitely not the latest and greatest thing. But, it works great. Yes, I had one omega spring break on me in nearly 10 years of constant flicking. Sent it to Benchmade and they fixed it up and got it back to me in less than 2 weeks.

Quality/Warranty - ok, I’ll admit when I got it the bevel was uneven and blade wasn’t centered. That’s not a great first impression. But they fixed it no questions asked and, like above, turned it around in a reasonable timeframe. I’ve also gone through several clips and they just keep sending more. At this point, I think the service alone has justified what I paid for the knife.

All that said, I’d love to see your mods - especially for the satin blades. Still might break down and try that one day. And I’d love to hear other long term user’s opinions.

Rounding part of spine

Picked up a RB3 recently and thought I might try rounding about 1/2 inch of spine right where my thumb wants to go. I still want plenty of sharpened spine for scraping ferro rods. Anyone done this before? Would I just do the “shoe shine” method using a strip sandpaper?

Thanks!

What are your most ergonomic knives?

Both in terms of Spydercos but also other makers? For me, my recently acquired Sage 5 is tops for ergos in my collection. Still need to try a Manix and Shaman.

Blade show haul + first Spyderco

Posted a while back about going to blade show this year and finding a new “first” Spyderco after returning the Native LW (which I didn’t love). Table was busy, but I was able to try several including the Kapara, Spydiechef, and Sage which were at the top of my list. And, drum roll please … I ended up with the Sage LW. Knew instantly - fit my hand perfectly. Totally different experience from the native LW. I’ll probably pick up the others as well in the future with the next being the chef (passed on a great deal on the Knifejoy blue ano version - the blue gets pretty worn with handling).

Anyway, my kids and I had a great time at blade show. Folks were friendly, lots of giveaways (got a free Vosteed raccoon and some other cheapies for my kids), and picked up two other great finds from ESEE and Rivery. Lots of fun swag, most of which my kids claimed. Recommend going Sunday if you don’t need the newest in-demand stuff.

Native questions

Native 5 LW arrived today. This is my first Spyderco (been wanting to pick some up) and unfortunately didn’t get to try any first as the closest dealer is 1.5 hrs away. Expected this to be a home run and while I don’t dislike it, not in love yet due to 2 primary reasons

  1. Ergos - thought this would be the strong point but as I’m trying to show in the pic, the hump of the scales hits right on my ring finger. Yeah, I can scoot everything back a bit, but it just feels unnatural. Anyone else experience this and did different scales help? The AWT scales seems to be much less pronounced in this area but hard to tell.

  2. Pocket clip - I knew I’d struggle with it but it definitely is going to rip my pants apart long term. Would the MXG Ti clip help? And, as noted above, would the AWT scales help even more?

I want to like and keep the native, mostly as I’m really intrigued by the 15v steel. I don’t mind the back lock, but have to admit it does feel and sound little cheap. But it might be that I need a different model. Any other models I should try instead?
