Advice on upgrading my bookshelf speakers

I’m setting up a vinyl listening area in a 12x15 room. Want to listen to classic American and British rock, jazz and some blues. I current have old KLM speakers that sound surprising okay, but certainly need an upgrade. I’m Not planning to add a subwoofer. I have an A/V system in another room with older Paradigms thst sound really nice for CDs to my ear and I’ve listened to vinyl at a friends on vintage Boston Acoustics that sound great. Those Boston A60 are a bit big for my current needs.

I’ve looked at and listened to Wharfdale 12.2i that sounded good to me but maybe slightly out of budget. I also listened to KEF Q1 metas that sounded good, too. Unfortunately, I can’t listen to both speakers together, and I think they’re quite different. They’re definitely on budget. Also considering Wharfdale 12.1i for both budget and footprint, since I liked the 12.2s but don’t think I’ll be able to listen to them. Also considering the newer Paradigm Premier 120 v2 since I like my older Paradigms, but I don’t think I’ll be able to hear them in person.

I know I don’t like bright speakers (For example, kilpsch sound very bright to me). Would love to stay in the $400-500 range if possible.

Speaker stand size?

Serious question: does the top plate on speaker stand need to match the speaker dimensions? My speaker stand top plate is about 7x7 and I’m considering upgrading to speakers that are about 7x11. So, speakers would over hang the top plate by a bit. No kids, pets or other factors that would otherwise risk stability.

Help me decide: small, inexpensive amp for vinyl

As the title says, help me decide on a small amp and/or pre amp & amp for causal vinyl listening.

I'm planning to use an existing Teac turntable with a somewhat anemic line-out so want a phono amp or amp/pre amp. I'll begin by mating it with old KLH bookshelf speakers but will likely upgrade to Polk X20 or X15 in the future.

I have gotten good recommendations from this and other subs - thanks all - and am narrowing down my choices to:

Douk X1 hifi tube amplifier (w/BT)https://a.co/d/0hVRL7Jj -- Nice little integrated amp seems to be well regarded at this price point. Honestly, I love the look of the tubes. Yes, I realize at this price they don't do much, but they do look cool.

Fosi BT20A Pro amp + a Fosi X5 phono stage - Again well regarded in this price point. No cool looking tubes, but I can get over that if sound is substantially better. I briefly considered the Fosi Audio Box X2 (for the tubes...) but it doesn't seem to be all that well regarded.

Other options in this general price range that I'm missing? All thoughts/discussion welcome!

Old (vintage) KLH 911B or Dayton Audio B65 speakers ?

I want to put together an inexpensive, small footprint set up for casual listening of some vinyl. I’ve got an older Teac turntable that is passable and, thanks to this and other subs, am leaning toward getting a Fosi Audio BT20A Amplifier paired with Box X2 Phono Preamp. The Teac does have a line out but it’s anemic at best. I have a set of older KLH 911B bookshelf speakers with 5.25 woofer that are okay. I was originally considering getting the Dayton Audio B65 based on experience with older Dayton speakers, but some recent reading here has me rethinking. I’m trying to keep costs down, so the $79 price tag on the Daytons or free on my existing KLH is attract! Medium size room, casual low-mid volume listening.

Any and all thoughts on the entire set up, but especially the speakers welcome!

Suggestions for casual listening Turntable set up

Cross posting with some updates: Recently I experienced a low budget vinyl set up that sounded fine for casual listening. They basically mated an inexpensive Audio-Technica turntable with a Pyle amp and Dayton Audio speakers. Not audiophile, certainly, but a passable sound for listening to vinyl in the background.

It got me thinking. I have an old Teac (A-688] turntable and Dayton Audio B65 bookshelf speakers. All I need is a decent, but inexpensive, amp. My questions for this group:

- I know Pyle amps are trash. So, what do you recommend for a decent, cheap, small amp that provides good performance. I love the compactness of my friends set up, so want to avoid a full size receiver/amp.

- I also know that my vintage Teac has a subpar (at best) built in pre-amp, so I’m considering whether I should get a small (again, cheap) phono pre-amp. Thoughts on that and if so, what pre-amp will give me the best bang for my buck with this set up?

My goal is a small footprint, attractive, set up that gets me decent sound from my vinyl while using some components I already have (turntable and speakers), and getting other components that punch above their price point. (Dayton speakers are good example of speakers that sound better than they should for their price, IMHO!)

All constructive, well meaning thoughts, considerations and advice welcome.

Good Lab for inexpensive, but decent developing & scan?

I'm just getting back into color film photography and have begun experimenting with my old cameras and some point and shoot (for fun). I had some old and very old stock that I'm also shooting and experimenting. Since these early shots are not "important", but rather experimental (and some roles are most definitely expired), I need recommendations for a lab that does decent developing and scanning -- so I can see the true results of my experimenting -- but is cheap so I don't break the bank. Mail order is absolutely fine.

Heater replacement recommendations in NJ

Our gas-fired pool heater has apparently seen its last days. Can anyone in the New Jersey area recommend a good company to cost efficiently replace it? Electric and gas hook up is all there. It’s a matter removing the old one and replacing it with a new unit. In ground, about 22K pool in North central New Jersey.

Brake fluid change?

Hi, new to BMW and received a message that my x3 requires a brake fluid change. I don’t think I’ve ever change the brake fluid on my other cars. My Audi is 13 years old with 130k miles! Just wondering if this is necessary?

Apple Maps Proactive “Home” estimates

Not sure if this is the correct sub, so happy to move my question. I’ve had my iPhone and Apple Watch for years. I recently re-installed Apple Maps on my phone. I rarely use Apple Maps preferring Google Maps or sometimes Waze.

Lately, when I’m away from home and getting into my car (which does NOT have car play) from a store for example, Apple Maps will send a notification to my watch with an estimated travel time home (traffic is light, it should take x minutes to get home). Even when I haven’t used maps to get where I’m going! Or opened maps to for directions home. It’s kinda creepy and very annoying. Any thoughts on how to disable ?
