Recommendations

Our oven has died. Need a new one but the new ones are a little bigger. Looking for recommendations on where to buy one & people to help install on. Gonna have to cut into cabinets.

Update: got a new unit from Bob Baileys! Highly recommend!

Wall oven

Our oven is giving out, it’s super old and came with the house. It’s built in the wall with weird dimensions 24 x 29.5 almost 30 - would you recommend using Home Depot’s services or go with a local appliance center to install?

Best tents

Hi, I usually carry a tailgate tent to the beach but the last two times the frame got bent beyond use. Looking for a new beach tent that protects from the sun and is easy to set up and could fit 4 adults and 2 babies.
Would you recommend the sun ninja or salt life cabana or shibumi shade or something else?

Two weeks in- variety of crumb

Two weeks in & my crumbs are vastly different. So interesting.

All same recipe.

100 g starter
390 g water
510 flour
10 g salt

Mix sit for an hour covered. Stretch & fold 4 times every 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 450 with Dutch oven inside.

Bake 25 top on then 25 top off.

My oven is over 20 years old and I’m starting to notice some temperature being off a little during bakes. I assume this could be a reason too why they’re all over the place. Besides temperature of fermentation

Bulk fermentation

This might be over fermented? I’ve only been making sourdough for two weeks but this rise was wild today. We will find out tomorrow when I bake.

How can you tell when something is over / under fermented?

Recipe:

200 starter
760 water
1020 KA flour
20 salt
(Grams)

I mixed, (took a nap) and forgot to do my first stretch an hour and a half later, then stretch and fold 4 times every 30 minutes after

Third loaf- flavored next!

I started sourdough last week as something to think about and use my brain. I have a newborn at home and in between naps I like to keep busy.

My third loaf pictured! It’s far from perfect but I’m pretty proud of it.

Recipe:

100g starter
510 g KA flour
390 water (I just use tap bc ours has a filter)
10g salt

Mix, sit for an hour covered. Do 4 stretches 30 minutes apart, sit for 3 hours- fridge overnight.

Preheat oven 450 with Dutch oven in it.
Bake 25 minutes top on, 25 min top off.

Cool on back for 2 plus hours.

Shaping it can be difficult so I’m working on that now.

I want to get into flavored breads.

My ask, what are the easiest flavored sourdough loafs to make with the greatest return on investment (flavor investment!)

I started this as something to really keep me busy during maternity leave & now it’s becoming a fun hobby to help with post partum depression!
