Beginner's guide to experiencing Onam in Trivandrum this weekend?

Hi everyone! I'm relatively new to experiencing Onam in Trivandrum and would love some local advice on how to make the most of the next few days.

Since Onam celebrations are happening over the 10-day period, what are some things a beginner absolutely shouldn't miss? I'm especially interested in:

\- Pookkalam / Athapookkalam spots

\- Cultural programmes, music, dance or other Onam events

\- Places that are nice to visit during the weekend

\- Any traditional Onam activities that I can experience without spending too much

\- Good places for a proper Sadya

For Sadya, my budget is ideally below ₹500 per person. If you've had a genuinely good Sadya recently in Trivandrum within that budget, please mention the place and, if possible, the current 2026 price. I'm aware Onam prices can be different from normal rates, so recent experiences would be especially helpful.

I've heard names like Mother's Veg Plaza, Ruchi and Pazhayidom Ruchi, but I'm open to anything — restaurants, smaller local places or even good takeaway options.

Also, if there are any beginner mistakes to avoid during Onam (crowds, timings, places that get extremely busy, etc.), please let me know.

Would really appreciate a simple "if you only have one weekend, do these things" kind of guide. 😄

Thanks in advance, and Happy Onam!

Beginner's guide to experiencing Onam in Trivandrum this weekend?

Hey all! I'm still fairly new to Onam here in Trivandrum and want to make the most of these next few days, so figured I'd ask the people who actually know what's good.

Since it's a 10-day celebration, what should a newbie not miss? Mainly curious about:

- Where to see nice pookkalams / athapookkalams

- Any cultural events, music, dance shows etc happening

- Good spots to check out over the weekend

- Traditional stuff I can do without spending a ton

- Where to get a solid Sadya

On the Sadya front, I'm hoping to keep it under ₹500 a head. If you've eaten somewhere good recently that fits that budget, would love the name and roughly what it costs this year (2026) — I know Onam pricing tends to jump from the usual rates, so recent experiences would help a lot more than old recommendations.

I've come across names like Mother's Veg Plaza, Ruchi, and Pazhayidom Ruchi, but honestly open to anything — proper restaurants, small local joints, even a good takeaway option works.

Also if there are rookie mistakes I should avoid — crowds, bad timing, places that turn into a madhouse — please warn me now lol.

Basically just looking for a "if you've only got one weekend, do this" kind of rundown. 😄

Thanks in advance, and Happy Onam!

Need some advices from the working developers

Hi everyone,

I'm a fresher who recently joined a service-based MNC and have been assigned to the Guidewire domain. I'm currently learning Guidewire, but I'm a bit confused about my long-term career prospects.

I wanted to ask people who have experience in this field:

- Is Guidewire a good technology to build a career in?

- What does the future scope look like over the next 5–10 years?

- How difficult is it to switch companies after gaining 2–3 years of Guidewire experience?

- Are there enough job opportunities and good salary growth, especially in India or abroad?

- Would you recommend sticking with Guidewire, or should I focus on more general software development skills alongside it?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have worked in the Guidewire ecosystem or have switched from it to other domains.

Thanks in advance!

Moving to Trivandrum next week – what should I know?

Hi everyone,

I'll be staying in Trivandrum for about 3 months starting next week and wanted to get a feel for the city from people who know it well.

How's the weather this time of year? What's the local culture like, and how welcoming is the city to newcomers? I'd also appreciate any recommendations for places to eat, things to do on weekends, must-visit spots, and any tips that would make my stay smoother.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks!

Would choosing TCS Digital over a product company hurt my long-term SDE career?

Need some advice from experienced folks here.

I currently have 2 offers:

TCS Digital – 7.09 LPA

Proper tech/SDE-oriented role

Product-based company – 6 LPA

Good company reputation

Role is Associate Functional Consultant, not pure development

My main goal has always been to build a long-term career in software engineering/SDE. Unfortunately, my college didn’t bring many strong tech companies, so options were limited.

Now I’m confused because:

TCS Digital gives me a development-oriented start

Product company has a better reputation/work culture

But I’m worried the consultant role may move me away from core development

For people already working in the industry:

How important is the first role for future SDE opportunities?

Is taking TCS Digital better if my goal is backend/full-stack development later?

Can switching from functional consultant to SDE become difficult after 1–2 years?

Also, if I accept TCS now and later decide not to join, are there usually any consequences apart from being blacklisted by TCS?
