Reno Updates (Days 2-6?)

I have pulled up the main damage area., which is about 4x10.

I'm working on removing the novadeck that's still stuck on the joists and the wall edges.

I had my dad who's a carpenter, come out and give me his input, which was invaluable. He said that the entire floor doesn't need to come up unless it's compromised.

I tested areas around the room and we're good. Except the humped area.

He introduced a new term to me: **kerfing**

Basically, it'll allow the area to relax on itself and lower the bump.

I am testing it in this room first. *If* it works, I'll do the rest of the floors that were affected by the leaks.

I will be laying insulation between the joists since the stuff here is practically useless.

I climbed under my house (I need a round of applause for that! I've been unrealistically afraid of getting under a mobile home since childhood!)

Anyway, belly under the bedroom looks pretty good but there are areas in need of patching.

However, someone (Yes it was a **human** with a box blade went to town under the bathroom and other bedroom!! Craziest part, they cut right next to the zipper that was in the belly wrap! 🤬🤬

So, that'll be *fun*!

Any advice? Questions?

Starting my reno was eventful!

A window unit in one bedroom was leaking for probably two years. Flooring was swollen and then, after removing a large piece of furniture, we discovered the floor was spongy.

I pulled up the vinyl flooring and revealed the OSB subfloor.

I fell through the subfloor and broke a finger!

Day two has got to be better, right?

2005 for $1,000

I have found a 2005 Prius, same color as mine- Driftwood Pearl, 280k miles.

Seller says it had the hybrid battery replaced.

They said that it makes a grinding noise while driving, but has no codes.

The noise is faint but doesn't interfere with driving.

The only reason I even took interest was that the car was so cheap and, if nothing else, I could use the hybrid battery!

It needs some body work, too.

They're about 2 hours away from me.

Any thoughts on what the grinding could be? Seems like it's more physical than mechanical, right?

Like worn brake pads?

How did you meet your Prius?

I've seen so many online Prius communities, and that got me wondering: how did you come to own your Prius?

Like, did you buy it because it was exactly what you were looking for?

Or, did you start looking for a car and you happened upon the Prius?

Did you know about them before owning one?

I was looking for a small, empty-nester car.

Didn't have any prerequisites outside of wanting a Toyota for less than $5k.

I can't remember really knowing about the Prius before last year, but the hybrid part totally fit my eco-loving personality!

Is this possible?

I've had my JunSun head unit for awhile but I'm not overly excited with the launcher.

Ultimately, I'd love to have something similar to this.

This is a mock up of a CarWebGuru theme.

Is it actually possible to customize it to look like this?

If it ain't one thing, it's another 😒

I found out, a few months back, that the manual key for my 2006, 188k miles, doesn't fit the driver's door.

What can I do to get a proper key? I also wonder if the door chirp not working is connected to that as a problem, too.

The FOB locks and unlocks the door but it is silent. The handle is quite loose, too.

I think my saga is finally over!

After dealing with all the stuff I've been posting about lately, last night, I found the source of all my problem codes!

Long story short, the rubber boot on the hatch had been stretched out while trying to run wiring for a backup camera back in Nov/Dec. The rainy season here in Louisiana starts around late Feb. That's when I started noticing the car was clammy when I would get in. Over the weeks and months, the amount of rain increased and, eventually led to water leaking near the 12v and Hybrid battery.

I went out today during the rainstorm and caught the rain actually dripping inside! Under the 12v battery was about 2" of water.

I disassembled the backseat and Hybrid battery cover area, dried all the obvious wet spots and put a fan on it for several hours!

Once I reconnected the 12V battery, I saw the most beautiful thing I've seen in a month:

READY

I test drove her around the neighborhood, ran a scan - no codes at All!!

I put some sealant on the area around the rubber boot, as well in the areas most known in Gen2 (2004-2009) for leaks.

I'm still wanting to test the lifetime expectancy with the Dr Prius app, but I'm unsure if it's working properly.

Anyway, I'm happy to be back among the Prius-driving population again!

Hybrid Geek recommends replacing Hybrid battery

The saga continues. I still can't get my 2006 Prius, 188k miles, to go into Ready Mode.

More research seems to imply it could be a leak somewhere. I have looked everywhere I could. I haven't removed the battery cover because it scares me, TBH.

I have an appointment with a local mechanic and he recommended calling Hybrid Geek for pricing and their recommendations. I was told that the codes that it's throwing (P0AA6-612-526) means the battery is starting to fail.

Replacement costs anywhere from $1750 - $3550.

The mechanic is going to do a dx and look at the battery and areas where leaks are common.

My girl's been down for almost 2 weeks now and it's making me crazy!

Anyone else ever do biz with The Hybrid Geek?

Update on P0AA6 code!

I purchased an Autel Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner. It actually allowed me to get the subcodes for the P0AA6 code.

So, it's P0AA6-612.

Now, given the fact that it could be Coolant contamination makes sense because of the work I had done recently.

Has anyone experienced this?

I've only had this car for 6 months. I'm not ready to put her out to pasture just yet.

2006, Base, 188k miles.

I want a *real* horn!

In the past 3 months, I've had to use my horn a few times. Anyone who knows me, knows I *hate* honking. I was almost run off the interstate by an 18 wheeler back in March! 🤬🤬

Anyway, I would like a horn with a bit more umph than the meep it currently has.

What options are there for a 2006, 2nd Gen?

And, the door lock beep, too? Mine is completely silent. I have reattached the wire and the dongle, but it's invoking it's 5th amendment right. 😆

CHRS tank & 3 way valve...

In the past 30 days , I've replaced the Coolant Heat Recovery Storage (CHRS) tank and the Coolant Control 3 way valve on my 2006, 188k miles, Prius.

This was due to the fact that I had P1121 and P1116 codes.

After replacing the tank, the P1121 went away. I still have the P1116 code, despite the replaced 3 way valve.

I topped off the radiator and overflow tank, started engine and turned on heat.

I tried to test drive it around my neighborhood and I got the 🔺️ .

I pulled over, pulled up Hybrid Assistant and saw that the engine temp read **244°**!

I hadn't even driven .25 miles!

What the heck? Does anyone have any advice on what this means?

Could there be air in the line somewhere?

Help!

How Monday is going...

My first visit with my new mental health specialist. I *think* that what she is.

Anyway, I was so very proud of myself for being on time! I pulled up as she was returning from lunch. I even parked next to her!

Jamming out to Michael Jackson (Off The Wall), I grabbed my phone only to see my appointment reminder reading **1:45**

Now I'm just sitting in my car with spicy armpits, waiting...

Chances are really good that I will be late now!! 😭

I'd been putting off dealing with this because it was gonna be a pain to remove all the lining, and then the mess... blah blah.

was no where near as difficult as I had expected it to be!

I disconnected the 12V battery to do it.

When everything was done, I Reconnected the battery. The CEL was out! Yay!!

However, the gas gauge now reads as if I'm out of gas, despite the fact that I filled up 2 days ago.

I know with the 2006, all Gen 2), the bladder tank is an issue, but this is weird weird!

Anyway, for anyone else who's changed the tank, how much fluid did you have to add back?

It's insane the way memories pop into the mind!

I hadn't thought of these in years!

I never had a pair because my parents didn't allow us to have brand name items 😕

Did y'all have any of these?

I've been wanting to change the spark plugs on my 2006 Toyota Prius for several months but kept putting it off!

I finally ordered new ones and yesterday, I got started, only to find out I had ordered the wrong ones! 😭

I had 2 options: send it back and wait for a new order to arrive

OR

Go down to AutoZone, buy correct plugs and proceed as planned.

I chose option 2! It took about an hour, but I did it!

I felt like a champion!!

My husband and I are looking to trade our 2017 Sienna XLE with 57k miles for a Venza. I'm looking at some 2021 models.

I also own a 2nd Gen Prius, so I'm fairly familiar with Hybrids.

Is there anything I should be on the lookout for in Venzas?
